covo connecting voices
COVO Connecting Voices is a charity specialising in consultancy and training in
educational and community settings. We provide second tier support to statutory
and voluntary organisations working with children, young people and parents in
the areas of behaviour management, play and parenting skills. Covo has provided
second tier training services in Southwark since 1999, working in schools and
community settings. We have been commissioned by the Children Services and
Southwark Behavioural & Autism Support Service to provide training and mentoring
programs for schools and out of school settings, as well as by the London
Boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Camden, Westminster, Islington, Hackney and
Lambeth, and Oxford and Essex. COVO was recently contracted to work in a cluster
of five PRU centres in Essex undergoing a period of change. COVO introduced and
modelled new activities and child-centred practices designed to engage young
people and cater for their complex needs. The project included an evaluation of
the impact of the programme on teachers’ practice and on young people’s
behaviour. Since 2013 COVO has focused on developing a behavioural programme for
secondary schools. The work has proven to be successful thanks to the innovative
approach developed by the team while working in PRU.
