Regents Park Community College

regents park community college

Southampton

As the Headteacher of this exceptional school, I am extremely proud of our ethos which is based on Respect, Pride, Creativity and Challenge. Staff and students embrace our values and as a result we are, arguably the most improved school on the South Coast. Regents Park is an over- subscribed mixed 11-16 school in the heart of Shirley, Southampton. The school is one of the oldest in Southampton steeped in history and over 100 years old. At Regents Park we provide a wonderful mix of tradition with a modern twist on teaching and learning ensuring that we provide a curriculum that generates interest, challenge and most importantly offers fun and excitement. Ofsted April 2018: ‘Teaching is characterised by highly effective planning, secure subject knowledge among the teachers, the use of a wide range of teaching strategies and the use of detailed information about pupils.’ Our pastoral care is second to none and we pride ourselves in the support and respect that emanates around the school with Student Leadership and Student Voice forming the platform on which the school continues to excel. Ofsted April 2018: ‘The strong messages about respect which flow from the top, and are modelled by all staff, are assimilated by pupils. Accordingly, they treat each other and adults with respect. Pupils’ behaviour around the school is exceptional. Their enthusiasm for learning is admirable, and their conduct in lessons is excellent.’ Our success is built on the commitment we have towards each and every student. As a small community school we understand the needs of each individual and data is used effectively to inspire each child to do their best.

Newport Girls' High School Academy

From the Headteacher, Michael Scott May I extend a warm welcome to our website. Newport Girls’ High School offers an all-round education with considerable strengths both inside and beyond the classroom. We support students academically to achieve their potential, whilst also developing resilience and promoting emotional wellbeing. As a relatively small school, there is a real family-feel to NGHS and our house system affords students the chance to meet peers in other year groups and to participate in healthy competition in a wide range of disciplines. There is an extra-curricular activity to suit all tastes at NGHS and staff work exceptionally hard to provide these opportunities for our students. We also organise a number of key open events during the academic year and welcome visitors to see all that NGHS has to offer. Our curriculum is academically rigorous with all students studying two modern languages in KS3 and separate sciences at GCSE. Some students also study Further Maths as an additional equivalent GCSE. At A-level we offer a full range of subjects to enable progression to university, apprenticeship or employment. Significant support with UCAS applications is available to all. Our pastoral team, comprising both teaching Heads of Year, SENDCO and non-teaching support staff ensure that our students’ individual needs are met and we work closely with families and primary schools to ensure a smooth transfer from Year 6. Newport Girls’ High School was visited by Ofsted in October 2019 for a section 8 inspection. We are delighted to have retained our outstanding status as a result of this visit under the revised Ofsted framework.

Vibrant and growing Land-based College Firstly, note that we are more than just a college. We are a college, a country estate, a dairy farm, a wedding venue, a conference centre, an arable farm, a tourist destination, the birthplace of Thomas Hardy and, most crucially, the only provider of land-based studies for 60 miles in any direction. We have a major strategic role in the development of Dorset’s rural economy, which although firmly rooted in our heritage as an agricultural provider, now spans the full range of land-based studies and beyond, from entry-level to a degree. Following a dynamic period, the College now has a financial health rating of ‘Good’, rewritten the Strategic Plan, and developed an Estate Masterplan for the next ten years, alongside confirming our Ofsted ‘Good’ grade. We have a strong platform to make the improvements required to continually strive towards outstanding status and we are looking forward to the future with ambition and optimism. The nature of the College, however, is much more than just an Ofsted grade. We are at the heart of Dorset, both emotionally and literally. Engagement and strategic positioning are vital to ensure we continue to grow both our reputation and student numbers. We need staff who will move us to the next step as part of a forward-looking organisation, rooted in the landscape of Dorset and the history of the estate. What binds us to the past is important, but it is not what defines our future; the essence of Kingston Maurward is about people, attitudes and the culture we all inherit and develop.

In the highly stressful position of school leadership, it is often difficult to get a truly dispassionate view about how well you are doing or what other schools are doing to address particular challenges. Too often, external evaluation is very clear on identifying strengths and weaknesses but offers little in the way of advising on what can be done to address issues arising. With our experience of working with more than two hundred senior leadership teams across England, extensive knowledge of data management and analysis and up to date knowledge of inspection procedures; we can help you gain an objective, accurate understanding of the effectiveness of key areas of your school and will write this up in a way that directly contributes to your school self-evaluation, thus saving you time to spend where it really impacts; with your children and teachers. My Background After a successful 15 year career teaching in a range of different primary schools in different authorities, culminating in Headship, I joined a major public services company in 2008 advising on data analysis and management and school improvement through accurate self-evaluation. As part of this remit, I provided CPD and advice to primary schools across the country. In 2010, I undertook inspection training and became a fully qualified additional Ofsted Inspector. I successfully retained my badge in the reduction of inspectors in 2016 and continued inspecting until 2018, when one-day inspections significantly reduced the need for additional inspectors. During my time on inspection, I worked on behalf of SERCO and then Ofsted directly from 2016. In May 2011, I became a fully independent schools advisor and since then, as well as inspection work, I have worked with over 250 schools Nationwide. The location of these schools has included Sunderland and Teesside in the North East, Manchester and Thameside in the North West, various parts of London and Wiltshire in the South East and West, as well as many points in between! In these schools, I have worked in partnership with them on SEF writing, school advisory work, self-evaluation and school performance information analysis as well as providing both on-site and course training regarding data analysis and curriculum development. As I am not employed by Ofsted and have no ties to local authorities, then you can be sure that the view point I give is objective and based entirely around the evidence available. I work as an advisor to both maintained LA primary schools and Multi-Academy Trust groups.

Welling

Progressions Tutoring was set up in 2014 by Sarah Lee, a primary school teacher and mum to 4 children. Sarah has a BA (Hons) Degree in Primary Education and is Paediatric First Aid trained. As well as being a member of The Tutors Association, Sarah has also maintained registration with Ofsted over the last few years to give parents the opportunity to pay via childcare voucher accounts. Children’s access to high quality teaching and learning is the team’s absolute focus. 8 years on and Sarah now works alongside a small team of qualified teachers who deliver high quality teaching to more than 40 children weekly. Children’s access to high quality teaching and learning is the team’s absolute focus. Whether they are working on their phonic knowledge in Year 1 or calculating algebraic expressions in Year 5 and 6, each child is delivered a personalised learning program and given the time and attention they need in every session. “When I first began tutoring, my aim was to give every child who walked through my doors, the very best opportunity in being able to learn and reach their full potential through fun, engaging but most importantly, nurturing sessions. Every child was and still is, treated as if they are my own. I knew what I wanted to get from the education system for my own children but being a teacher realised that this wasn’t always achievable for each and every child from a class of 30. I felt that through my tuition, I could change that scenario some-what, I could possibly be the difference that allowed a child to become more confident and ready for new challenges”. Progressions Tutoring sessions are designed to help children achieve their potential through excellent tuition and the delivery of individual learning programs. Sarah and her team believe in treating children with firm, fair rules but also with respect.
