We offer an exceptional academic and extracurricular experience at Samuel Whitbread Academy in an outstanding learning environment where students are expected to work hard and achieve their best. In our last Ofsted inspection, we were judged as ‘Good’ with many outstanding features and over the next three years we have set ourselves the target of being Outstanding! Our GCSE results are amongst the best in the local authority. We offer a well-balanced curriculum with plenty of choice to prepare our students for the next stage in their lives. Most of our students continue on to the Sixth Form, which is one of the largest and highest performing in the area - providing students with a huge range of courses designed to match the expectations of universities and employers. Our pastoral care is exceptional and we have dedicated pastoral support teams for each year group. The academy is also broken down into five houses, named after people who have made a distinctive contribution to our community. This strong focus on developing the skills and knowledge of staff results in all children making exceptional progress in their learning and development in relation to their starting points, The key-person system is embedded effectively in practice and staff are highly effective in supporting children’s emotional well-being, particularly when they first start and when they move from room to room within the playgroup. Children thrive at this welcoming, all-inclusive provision. Close attachments between the children and the staff are obvious. Children’s behaviour is exceptional. The manager and staff accurately monitor children’s development to highlight any areas where they might need extra support. They quickly help them to catch up if needed. The manager also looks at different groups of children to see if the setting can make improvements to support those particular cohorts.

Southend Adult Community College (SACC) is Southend Borough Council’s provider of adult education, providing education and training to more than 5,000 learners. SACC provides 100s of part-time leisure courses, English, maths, employability courses, traineeships, vocational qualifications, CPD and industry specific training for adults and for young people 16+ apprenticeships and full-time vocational programmes. SACC provides community outreach provision and family learning in local community venues and employee training and assessment on employer premises. SACC has three activity centres, its main Southchurch Centre, an adult centre at Belfairs Academy in Leigh and a specialist centre for young adults with complex and profound learning difficulties and disabilities in Westcliff. At our last Ofsted inspection, SACC was judged for the second time as a good college with outstanding features. Key findings are: • success rates have improved over the last few years and many are well above national rates • learners develop good practical, vocational and employability skills. They make good progress in developing these skills • learners on study programmes do well. The college has made a significant contribution to reducing the number of young people in the borough who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) • staff are particularly effective at finding good work placements for learners on employability programmes. These placements relate directly to learners’ aims and provide good workplace experience • teachers use their professional skills and knowledge well to help learners relate their studies to the world of work and gain employment or promotion • staff, at all levels, create good partnerships with a range of agencies. They use these partnerships well to help learners develop a range of useful skills • leaders work well to create, and monitor the effectiveness of a curriculum that meets the needs of learners and the local community.

Sholfins Swim School CIC is a not-for-profit company born from a passion and love for swimming. We are extremely passionate about our community. Our aim is to try and remove as many barriers as possible, preventing our community of Redditch from learning to swim. The team at Sholfins recognise that due to the pandemic there has been a huge impact on children having access to water in their early years. A number of primary/middle schools have also been unable to provide this life skill to their pupils prior to the pandemic for several different reasons, therefore, falling short of the national curriculum requirements, through no fault of their own. Swimming and water safety has been a statutory element of the national curriculum for physical education in England since 1994. This means that every 11-year-old child should leave primary/middle school with the skills to keep themselves safe. Swimming lessons provide all children with vital skills to help with survival and this is no different for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). By 2025, over 780,000 children with SEND will be in the education system. However, inequalities in the ability of schools and teachers to offer high quality opportunities for them to participate in PE, School Sport or Physical Activity still exist, with disabled young people twice as likely to be physically inactive as non-disabled people. The focus on the new revised Ofsted inspection framework is also an area of consideration for schools to bare in mind. At Sholfins we believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim. All of our instructors are Level 2, Swim England qualified and have RLSS Lifeguard, First Aid and Safeguarding Qualifications.
