Billy and Gillian Plenderleith are local to the 3 Towns Area (Ardrossan, Saltcoats & Stevenston) in Ayrshire; Billy was born and raised in Stevenston and Gillian in Ardrossan. Billy and Gillian have always had a keen interest in animals; from growing up with the family dogs and other pets including hamsters, budgies, guinea pigs and rabbits, to other hobbies including keeping tropical fish for Billy and horse-riding for Gillian. In 1980, Billy gained a keen interest in working with dogs when he went along with Lance, his first yellow Labrador dog, to a nearby dog obedience training club. Billy was determined to be a responsible dog owner and wanted to have a pet that he could take anywhere even then. He and Lance learned together and Billy was hooked. Following the addition of Sam and Clairey, two Golden Retrievers, Billy did well in Competitive Obedience, dabbled in Fun Agility and tried his hand at Showing. Whilst he enjoyed all these activities, Billy was introduced to gun dog work; this is where his real enthusiasm lay. Billy moved on to win awards in Working Gun Dog Tests and Field Trials with a variety of his dogs. Billy was also invited to be part of the representative team for The Golden Retriever Club of Scotland with both Sam and Clairey; a great honour.

Matt Ager is a professional pet and gundog trainer based in East Northamptonshire. Along with his partner, Rachel Harrington, they run Spinnakeu and Harrachtain labradors and spaniels. Matt offers one-to-one and group training for both gundogs and general pet obedience. He has owned dogs all his life and has trained seriously since 1997. Rachel runs a successful dog walking business and a secure exercise field. She also runs popular puppy training classes which complement Matt’s training operation. Between them, Matt and Rachel have five children and four grandchildren. Their current team of dogs include a number of labradors, and cocker spaniels as well as a setter and a Jack Russell. Matt has bred a number of labrador litters under his ‘Spinnakeu’ affix since 2001. In 2018, Rachel established her own affix of ‘Harrachtain’. Their combined goal is to breed occasional litters of labradors and spaniels suitable for field trials, working tests and as valued shooting companions

I specialise in working with the owners of pet dogs to improve their relationship with their dog.Many of the common obedience and behaviour problems such as pulling on the lead, refusing to come back when called, jumping up on people etc. can be cured relatively quickly with my help. I can also help dog owners overcome behaviour problems such as separation anxiety, destructive behaviour, over excitement etc. I prefer to work with the owners during the process, fully involving them in the training process which gives them a better understanding of canine behaviour and how dogs respond to human emotions and body language. A number of common behavioural issues which many pet dogs exhibit can be related back to a lack of basic obedience training. For example refusing to come back when called. What usually happens here is the owner has a few bad experiences when the dog has ran off and refused to come back so the owner decides that the dog will not be let off the lead again. The result the dog becomes frustrated due to a lack of exercise (most dogs require at least 30 minutes free running exercise a day) he returns home with loads of unused energy and looks for ways to use it up. Chewing your possessions or property, pacing up and down and whining, are all favourites.
