Since 2000, NALA has been using television, radio, print, telephones and the internet to provide educational opportunities to people who want to improve their literacy. We operate a Tutoring Service, providing tutor support over the phone and internet. We also manage an eLearning website www.learnwithnala.ie where people can have their skills assessed across a number of areas and then be prescribed an individual learning plan to improve these areas. We raise awareness of literacy services We raise awareness of literacy services through national awareness campaigns. We have produced eleven TV series in association with RTE and national TV, Radio and Cinema advertising campaigns. NALA operate a Freephone support line that is staffed by experienced operators who can identify callers’ needs and advise them on free services nationwide. This includes tuition in 120 local adult education centres or NALA’s Tutoring Service where they tutor people over the phone. We advance adult literacy policy through research We work in partnership with government departments, organisations, tutors and learners to advance adult literacy policy. This work is supported by evidence-based research which examines international best practice, reviews Irish policy and produces recommendations to support people with unmet literacy needs. Our policy work aims to influence Government policy and lobby for appropriate actions and funds to improve literacy and numeracy levels in Ireland.

We are open Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm all year round and closed on bank holidays and the period between christmas and new year Clarence House Nursery, set in the leafy West End of Glasgow, has indoor and outdoor facilities. Shirley Hexley, the nursery owner, has been providing wraparound childcare since 1998 for 0-5 year olds. Clarence House has an excellent reputation for having a calm and nurturing environment that encourages children to be independent, develop social skills and explore new experiences. Reading: Children will bring their book in their book bag and the pages to be read will be written in their green reading record. Please sign this to evidence reading has been completed. Some children will come home with a little slip of green words, these words should be learned to support their progress in reading. P.E – Wednesday with Miss Simpson and Thursday with Mrs Lynch. Lots of children still don’t have a P.E. kit, it is so important all children bring a P.E. kit for these times. The children will be a lot more comfortable for their lesson and they are learning to dress themselves independently. Maths/Numeracy: We are learning ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd etc) and making amounts up to 10p, using 1p, 2p and 5p coins. Literacy: We have finished learning all of our P1 sounds and we are now working on writing sentences independently. Topic: We have been learning about the seasons, especially Winter, and we are going to start our new topic ‘Weather’. *We would like to make a P1 Family wall display in the classroom. I have been working with autistic children and teenagers for 20 years. I started my teaching career in Further Education, and have worked in the Supported Learning Department of 2 large Mainstream Colleges teaching Numeracy, Literacy, Life Skills, and Childcare. I also worked as the Life Skills Coordinator at a residential college for young people with severe physical disabilities. My passion has always been working with autistic young people - I believe that they have so much to offer, and yet the education system often fails them because staff do not have the right skills and experience. This is something I am passionate about changing! I am an experienced trainer and really enjoy training others. I have a degree in Psychology, a Post Graduate Certificate in Special Education (Autism) a PCGE in Life Long Learning and hold NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship). I am also a Surrey Autism Champion and have a NOCN Level 3 Certificate in Working with Students with ADHD and a Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I am also trained to use 3Di diagnostic programming which enables me to carry out assessments for possible ASC and ADHD. Laura is an advisor to PDA North America and provides support, advice and training to families all over the world. Laura is also the founder of Healthy Happy Me! providing support to children to help them maintain happy bodies and healthy minds.
