The Penguin Collectors Society is an educational charity with the objects of encouraging and promoting the study of Penguin Books and of conserving historical material in institutions available to researchers. First published in 1935, Penguins rapidly became a force for cultural good on a par with the BBC or, later, the Open University. Penguins, Pelicans (non-fiction), Puffins (for children) and many other series fed a popular appetite for good reading, attractively packaged and cheap. Penguin today remains part of one of the world’s largest publishers. The Society’s members, numbering around 400 worldwide, are Penguin’s keenest students – and collectors.

Orange Beak Studio was founded in 2017 from a desire to work closely with illustrators and authors, to share knowledge and offer insight and encouragement for creatives. The co-founders of Orange Beak Studio are: Maisie Paradise Shearring an award-winning internationally published author and illustrator Ness Wood an award-winning designer and art director Orange Beak Studio Associates: Alice Corrie is a freelance children's book editor working on picture books, fiction and non-fiction. Katie Harnett is an award-winning internationally published author and illustrator. Louise Grosart has been working in children’s publishing for over a decade and edits picture books, non-fiction and fiction The Orange Beak Studio tutors have varied but complimentary skills. Maisie, Ness, Alice, Katie and Lou are all practising specialists in their fields of illustration, design and editorial respectively. In addition to this, both Maisie and Ness have teaching experience at post-graduate level. Having worked on every product or service category imaginable as a copywiter, I must state the most value I extracted from my 35 years’ experience was how to write with economy.This discipline has led me to engage in a continuous study of ‘what makes people read’. Not the broader meaning of the word in terms of a reader’s interest in fiction, non-fiction or a particular subject matter, but rather what keeps a reader’s interest alive whilst digesting a commercial or corporate message. Like all of us, I too was sick and tired of the thousands of uninvited commercial intrusions I was receiving daily. But what started as a simple training module on commercial SMS writing, has become a little bigger, exploiting all the experience I have gained as a commercial writer. ANTI RACISM WORKSHOPS(Organisations, Staff, Teachers) Our anti racism workshops for community organisations and schools all start with an initial call to talk with your organisation lead or designated EDI lead to help tailor the workshop to where your school is at on it’s journey in inclusivity and allyship. Our workshops look at; The Protected Characteristics, Unconscious Bias and practical tools and frameworks that allow you to look at where growth is needed within your organisation and where to develop in becoming transformational when it comes to race equality and inclusivity in your organisation.
