Sherwood Young Artists is a children's art school that runs weekly classes for 7 - 18 year olds, in Sherwood, Nottingham. The classes offer children the opportunity to develop skills in a full range of different artistic materials and techniques, to complete their Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold Arts Awards. Through the sessions we also enable the children to discover and learn about a wide range of different Artists, designers and creative practitioners. We also help the children to develop confidence in becoming Arts leaders and offer them the opportunity to present their amazing artwork through our involvement with such events as 'Sherwood Art Week', 'Nottingham Light Night', 'The Hartley Creatives' and our own special exhibitions in our lovely art studio in Sherwood. Since the pandemic, Sherwood Young Artists also now offers online Art Courses via this website. Our highly successful DofE Award Art courses have supported nearly 200 children, from all across Britain (and beyond), in completing their Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE Awards, since we launched it a couple of years ago. We are also very proud of our successful Discover Arts Award online course. This course was set up with the support of the Arts Council and is a great starter course for 5-10 year olds.

Nottingham Folk Dance Group welcomes new members (singles or couples) or visitors with an interest in dancing.     Beginners and experienced dancers are always welcome at any club night.    We enjoy English Country Dances old and new, American Squares and Contras and the occasional Scottish Country Dance.   If you have been to a barn dance or ceilidh you will have a good idea of what we do.      At a club such as ours the range and style of dances encountered is much wider, but just as much fun. All dances are walked through beforehand to teach the figures, and prompts are given during the dance.    Our club callers have a lot of experience in teaching dances to beginners and more experienced dancers.      The focus is on having fun, dancing together, enjoying learning the dances and dancing to the music.

Here is a summary of the guidelines: All Boxers are to have a medical before and after they box You must be aged 18 or over to compete All boxers train together to ensure fairly matched bouts Bouts contested over 3 rounds of 2 minutes with 1 minute intervals UWCB provide 16oz gloves to be worn on fight night Full UWCB headgear to be worn Groin protection compulsory for males, optional for females Scoring by referee Three standing eight counts in a round will result in referee stopping contest The referee can stop the bout and any stage if in their independent opinion, the safety of either boxer is compromised

After leaving the UK in 2010 and embarking on a backpacking trip to Indonesia alone spending 12 days in the forest with three local guides. Wanda, Bendy and Ping yes that was their names travelling through the forest and camping at a new spot each night. Which added some life-changing experiences for me a nieve 17-18-year-old alone in a foreign country with me not knowing any part of the local language. When I got back to the UK I decided on this as a hopeful career path which I am still working toward now. I decided I wanted to work in the travel industry, where my passion in life truly lies. So I came back to the UK after that trip and immediately planned for other journeys. Still living with family I decided to explore a bit of Latin America which I really enjoyed the culture the idea of working out here was overwhelming. So in 2011, I went to Costa Rica. But where the trips truly took an expedition type feel was when planning from start to finish around 8 months prior to going away. I planned and prepared for a journey to the Darien gap Panama-Colombia border region. Which went as best as could in this region. I then began planning my return to head to Guyana where we canoed a river we, meaning myself 2 local guides travelled for 11.5 days and travelled 288km to be exact. I knew that my dream job would now be to work as an expedition leader where I could live out my passion for leading in remote and exciting places. I now had an abundance of remote travel experience and the required knowledge and soon the qualifications that it takes to do this. But I was still without the valuable experience required to teach and lead people in remote places. I have now done my ML training so that I would soon have the qualification to make this a career choice of mine.

trent valley woodturners

Trent Valley Woodturners are a club of 60+ members who meet on a regular basis to discuss and practice the art of wood turning. The club is based in Kegworth, Leicestershire and is situated next to the Village Hall. The workshop is situated in a brand new purpose built facility which was opened in early May 2015. On the second Wednesday of every month the members are entertained with a demonstration from either a professional wood turner or a club member. Demonstrations take place during the evening between 6.30 to 9 pm and are free for all members to attend. Non members are charged £5 for admission. Spaces are limited so be sure to contact the Secretary before arriving. Club activities include a hands on experience several times each month, where members have access to a variety of lathes and workshop equipment. At these meeting the members have the opportunity to use the club facilities or to just discuss ideas or problems with other people. On the third Wednesday of each month, members have the opportunity to socialise, watch DVD’s and discuss problems over tea and coffee. This is a ‘no turning session between 1.30 – 4.30pm. During the Autumn and Winter months, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, training is given to students new to woodturning. The cost for each 8 week session, 2 hours per night is £64. Due to popular demand training has now been extended to include Friday Mornings, a 8 week course, 3 hours per session costs £96. Anyone interested in joining any of our training classes should contact the Secretary as soon as possible as places are limited. Activities are arranged throughout the year and include all day presentations by professional Woodturners and visits to local wood fairs. At these fairs the members demonstrate their woodturning skills and exhibit some of the items that have been made in the club. Some of these items are sold to the general public and some of the proceeds donated to charity. The club facilities include a variety of lathes and workshop equipment, a library of books/DVDs and a stock of woodturning accessories which include glues, polishes and miscellaneous items. The club has state of the art audio and visual equipment which is used during demonstrations.
