A few words about us at Cyber Benab. We are an online meeting place which aims to increase awareness of cybersecurity through online events, such as weekend bootcamps and intensive training courses. About us Our mission at Cyber Benab is to develop a community of cybersecurity aware enthusiasts and experts with the knowledge to defend critical data and infrastructure for individuals, businesses and government. Dr. Fraser, our Operations Director has developed cybersecurity and computer systems administration training courses for both private sector organisations, such as the Flatiron School in New York, and outreach courses for disadvantaged groups, including retraining for programmes for immigrant engineers at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. More recently, he has contributed to cybersecurity workshops as part of Vaugh’s College CSTEP programme which aims to increase access by minority and economically disadvantaged students to academic programs at the college level in scientific and technical fields. Cyber Benab is one of 108 UK security startup companies nominated to take part in the 2021 Cyber Runway accelerator programme which is sponsored by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). During 2022, Cyber Benab in collaboration with the Digital Policy Alliance and local outreach groups will play a leading role in delivery cybersecurity training to disadvantage groups in the UK starting with the London Borough of Lambeth. In recent years, digitisation has exploded in every aspect of the global economy. This development has increased our reliance on mobile devices to interact with friends and family, work, shopping, news, lifestyle, social media, banking and finance. My name is Sarah Colombini and I am very privileged to be the Headteacher at Ribston Hall High School. At Ribston, we know that every child is different. Our ethos is to enable and empower young women to discover their own unique potential. We believe that each child's individuality should be encouraged and developed. This is achieved by offering an all-round holistic education where we value all of the subjects we teach, and have worked hard to ensure students receive a broad learning experience in many different subjects that are not always on offer at other schools. As a Biologist, I recognise the value of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths), particularly in the education of women as these areas are under-represented in undergraduate study and pursuance of careers in these fields. This is something I would like to change by encouraging those that are interested to consider STEM at this school and view its study as an opportunity and a gateway to a multitude of careers. Having recently heard the news that we have been successful in securing £1.5 million to build our new science block, we are excited that this will support our aim as well as providing our primary partnership schools an opportunity to experience and engage in science learning with us too. However, the team have decided that because we are at a point where people are tired of Zoom, but not ready to get together, that we will concentrate for a while on posting items of interest to keep us going. We currently publish a monthly e-newsletter called Second Sunday News. It will be on our website and a copy be sent out to our mailing list via Mailchimp on the second Sunday of each month. It will feature opinion, local and national triumphs and links to articles and videos. Obviously, it will also link to our website, especially our regularly updated resources area.
