Break down of guitar course topics by day DAY 1 Body & Neck Wood choice and body design play a large part in the tone of an electric guitar. If you were to play several solid body guitars unamplified you’ll notice distinct differences between various wood types. A solid body that sounds good acoustically generally will sound good amplified. We’ll discuss the different woods used to make electric guitars and the effect of different body styles on tone and sustain. Just as wood affects the body, when making a neck you have to pay attention to wood choice in order to have a good sounding guitar. The hardware that goes into making a great guitar also plays a large role, not only the quality in the parts but also their fitting. You will be instructed on how best to fit all the component parts with skill and accuracy enabling you to create a great custom made guitar.. For these custom built guitars we will be using Bare Knuckle Boot Camp pickups: very high quality pickups designed to suit our specifications of wood choice and body style. These pickups are hand wound in the UK and are widely regarded as the best pickups on the market today. Choose between Old Guard, True Grit or Brute Force. The key to having a great sounding electric is not just down to the Pickups but also the choice of components that go with it, often overlooked with most mass manufactured guitars, the guitar you make will have highest quality components and will subsequently sound great and work extremely well. Microfat and enriched nanofat graft transfer (also known as autologous fat transfer or lipoinjection), to the face and the neck is a minimally invasive, short-lasting procedure with rapid recovery, and can be done under local anaesthesia. Following completion of the procedure, the patient can return to the normal daily life activities. But firstly, we need to clearly explain what the terms microfat and nanofat grafts mean…. Microfat is defined a small-diameter fat particle and is used to improve the appearance of wrinkles, grooves and the lack of volume and sagginess of the skin of the face and neck, in response to the aging process. Similarly, nanofat, is referred to as the smallest diameter fat particle. The main advantage of the nanofat is that it contains cells that have the ability to differentiate in any type of body cell. Stem cells – as they are called- play a very important role in the process of rejuvenation, as they can differentiate into cells called fibroblasts which in turn produce collagen thus making the skin firmer and more youthful in appearance. The Course can be divided into two stages: 1. In the first stage, fat cells will be obtained from one or more parts of the body and are then purified and injected into the face and the neck. The doctor will identify an area in your body where the fat will be obtained from. This area is usually the flanks, but fat can also be obtained from other areas such as the abdomen, and the outer and inner thighs. You will be given enough local anaesthesia to numb the area where the fat will be harvested from. Then, a small-diameter cannula called microcannula connected to a special vacuum syringe will be gently introduced under the skin to obtain the fat. During this process, you should not feel any pain, the local anaesthetic will have made you numb. After the fat is harvested, it will contain a mixture of fat cells, blood, water, and local anaesthetic. Therefore, this fat will not be pure. This mixture of fat, blood, water and local anaesthetic will then become filtered into a special filtering and processing device whereby all the blood, water and local anaesthetic are being washed out, so that pure fat remains. This fat is then further processed by passing it through special filters whereby it becomes a smaller-sized fat particle known as microfat and nanofat graft. You need to be medically qualified as a doctor, dentist, nurse, pharmacist or paramedic with full governing body registration and have completed a Foundation Filler Course and to have administered a number of cases. Professional Guitar Setup Course Introduction The Pro Guitar Setup course is designed for up to 6 people and the aim is to teach the art of setting up both electric and acoustic guitars with confidence. The course is both theory and practical, we discuss all the setup points and how to adjust the guitar to get the best setup out of it, we use a Gibson Les Paul and a Stratocaster to demonstrate all of these points. Not only do we discuss and show you how to adjust the finer points but we also discuss and show how to maintain your instrument, covering fretboard treatment and fret polishing. Who is the course for? The course is designed for all levels from the complete beginner looking to get the best setup out of their guitar to working techs who want to brush up or who are broadening their skills. We are confident that you will leave with the knowledge and awareness to setup your own guitars and having had the practical application of this new found knowledge, the confidence, which is often lacking with the majority of people to maintain their instruments. Action heights: Correct Height, adjustments & discussion Radius the Bridge Saddles Floating Bridges: Balancing & Setting up Intonation: Adjusting Intonation Fretboard cleaning Fret Polishing Electrics: Maintaining the Pots and checking the electrics Schematics Pickup Heights Re-Stringing: Gauges & how to string correctly Cleaning: Different finishes and how best to clean Practical We then move on to putting these points in action starting with; How to assess the guitar with mind to all of the points, this is so key to gaining confidence and certainty, knowing the points to start with enables you to adjust safe in the knowledge that if you go too far with the neck relief you have a starting point and using certain increments you can be sure of how much adjustment you are making, it seems to be a common problem with people adjusting their own neck, not knowing a starting point and it is the very first thing that we check when setting up guitars.. The most important point is how much Relief is in the neck, this is measured using a Notched Straight edge for greater accuracy. We will also show you how to assess the neck relief by eye, this enables you to easily determine the relief in the neck without the use of any specific tools. Once the relief is measured we check the Action height at the 12th fret as well as at the 1st fret, this gives us a good picture of how the guitar is setup currently. With the Pro Guitar Setup Points that we give you, we are then able to look at where the guitar needs some work and then put that into action. Getting the balance between the neck relief and action heights is key to a good setup, with the guitar adjusted to where we want it we then go onto the maintenance part of the setting up.
