Rutlandvale Consulting Ltd is owned and run by Rob and Angie Bosshardt to offer consultation and satisfy educational management and learning requirements, specialising in delivering English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) solutions. Services are delivered by Rob, Angie or one of a small number of known and trusted associates. Rob is an NVQ A1 assessor (administration and management) and has been an MSc assessor for Kingston University. His educational qualifications include BSc(Hons) (City University), MSc (Kingston University), NVQ Level 5 (Operational Management) and he is a Chartered Member of CIPD. Following a highly successful operational and training career in the Royal Navy, he is an experienced Bursar and financial manager. He has been instrumental in setting up a fast-track Academy as interim Finance Director, and has delivered consultancy in finance, governance and compliance. Angie is a fully qualified adult ESOL and EFL teacher (CertEd and Level 5 ESOL subject specialism - University of Southampton; TEFLA Certificate - University of Portsmouth) with over ten year's experience of ESOL and EFL teaching across the full range of proficiency in both class situations and tailored one-to-one tuition for individual and corporate clients. Her background is in commercial and sports management.

The school, then known as Headstone Council School, started life on April 8th 1929 under the headship of Mr C.J Boyden and 6 teachers. At the cost of £15,000, the red brick building in Pinner Road had been newly built to educate 292 five to fourteen year olds (average class size of 50). The school soon expanded to meet the ever growing number of children resident in the rapidly expanding North Harrow and Pinner (Pinner grew from a population of 9,462 in 1921 to 24,500 in 1931), with class sizes reaching the sixties and never less than the fifties. The Second World War interrupted the education of many young people. Many of the male teachers were called up for military service and the playing field was dug up for trenches and air raid shelters. The children attended on only every 3rd day and lessons were constantly disrupted by air raid sirens ( 1227 alerts in total ); the girls were expected to have knitting with them at all times to occupy them during their frequent visits to the air raid shelters! The threat was very real; among many bombs landing in the vicinity, in 1944 a V2 rocket landed in the cemetery behind the school. School uniform was first introduced in 1946 and the navy blue blazer remains to this day.

The Navigators has grown out of one man’s pursuit of God. Dawson Trotman lived in America. As he sought God, the Lord promised to build him ‘a house’. At a time when the Christian world saw no ministry beyond evangelism, he was led to invest deeply in the lives of the few in order that they could reach the many. This began in the 1930s with US Navy personnel. It grew significantly through WWII. Following the war the Navigators spread out through the world, it is now in over 100 countries world wide. The Navigators came to the UK through the Billy Graham crusades of the 1950s. Billy Graham, frustrated by the unwillingness of local Christians to help those who came forwards at his meetings, asked Dawson Trotman to develop what has since become known as “follow-up”. The Navigators therefore supported Dr Graham in all his crusades. During the Haringey crusades, Christians’ eyes were opened to the possibilities of discipleship, and asked the Navigators to minister in the UK. Initially Joyce Turner came to set up an office for materials and as she did this she also began a ministry among women. As interest developed, more Navigators came to set up ministries in communities and universities, which became the starting block for the current ministry.

Southampton Coalporters A.R.C. was founded in 1875 and as such is the oldest and most established rowing club within the city of Southampton. The club has been successfully competing every year since its foundation. Coalporters itself takes its name from the rowers who transported coal to visiting ships on the River Itchen. These workers formed the club in which they could participate using their skills in competition against anyone else who would race against them. In 1884 the club scratched together a crew of 18 to race and beat a previously undefeated racing crew of 14 from the visiting American Navy. The race was set over a five mile course for stakes of sixty dollars . The crew imbalance was more than compensated for by the fact that the Americans could race their own specially designed racing boat, whilst Coalporters had to race in a disused service cutter from the condemned stores in Portsmouth Dockyard. The Americans asked for a rematch for higher stakes for which Coalporters took up the challenge and again went on to win. Soon after Coalporters were challenged by the "Portsmouth Shovelers" which laid the foundations for the more conventional river and coastal rowing competitions of today. The club has progressively grown in stature over the years to become a well renowned and respected club throughout the rowing circuit both locally and nationally. We have been on our present site beside Northam Bridge for over 40 years. The latest addition to the club was completed in 2005, extending the building further towards the water to increase the size of the training / gym area and also extending the back of the club to incorporate a club / committee room. The refurbishment also included the rebuilding of the changing rooms and the installation of new racking in the boat house. In 2019 Coalporters embarked on a new era to develop the club for the future. New storage and club refurbishment is now being planned, the first phase starts with conversion of the Northam Arch project. This will provide more boat storage space for members and our rowing crews.

In 2016, Brunel celebrated 50 years as a university. The decision to be named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel was taken after much discussion. Rather than name the new College after a location, Dr Topping, the first Vice Chancellor of Brunel University (and former Principal of Brunel College) pleaded that the name should be a well-known person preferably an engineer or scientist associated in some way with Middlesex or Acton. Agreement was reached in March 1957 that person would be Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859) is one of the great British engineers of the 19th century. Isambard was born into an industrious family in 1806, with his mother Sophia Kingdom working for the Royal Navy and father Marc Brunel being a prominent French engineer. Isambard took on formal training as an engineer and went on to build twenty-five railways lines, over a hundred bridges, including five suspension bridges, eight pier and dock systems, three ships and a pre-fabricated army field hospital.To add to this he was a keen social engineer, building housing estates, churches and hospitals.
