The Confucius Institute for Scotland in the University of Edinburgh is a national centre to promote educational, economic, and cultural ties between Scotland and China. Set up with Sino-Scottish Government backing and partnered with Fudan University in Shanghai, the centre was established under an initiative taken by Hanban – the Chinese Government department responsible for promotion of Chinese language overseas. Objectives The Confucius Institute for Scotland is one of more than 450 Confucius Institutes around the world. The principal remit for Confucius Institutes is the promotion and development of Chinese language and culture. Each institute determines its own programme of activity based on market conditions. The key objectives for the Confucius Institute for Scotland are: to help develop effective Sino-Scottish business, cultural and academic links to offer an extensive programme of Chinese language training to act as a bridge between Scotland and China, aiding understanding and facilitating engagement to be a major point of reference for Sino-Scottish relations in the areas of education, business and culture to work with other stakeholders to develop greater awareness of China in Scotland The Confucius Institute for Scotland also builds on existing links within the University of Edinburgh to various academic and cultural institutions in China. Its aims are to strengthen and expand these cultural and academic interactions as well as to explore and build new possibilities for exchange and collaboration.

ABC Paramedic Services was set up by our Training and Event Manager, Craig Gray. Craig spent fifteen years working in front line Emergency Services within the Scottish Ambulance Service in Edinburgh. The final six years of this was spent as a First Response Paramedic on a Rapid Response Vehicle dealing predominately with Class A / Red (i.e. potentially life threatening) emergencies. In 2011 Craig became the first Paramedic in the history of the Scottish Ambulance Service to be awarded ‘The Chief Executive’s Special Award’ for displaying the highest levels of commitment and professionalism in his job. Craig’s considerable knowledge and expertise extends to the private sector including delivering First Aid Training to Healthcare Professionals, courses at the Royal College of Surgeons, and providing Medical Cover at events such as ‘T in the Park’, ‘The Edinburgh Tattoo’ and the ‘Queen’s Garden Party’. In 2012, Craig provided Paramedic level cover as Chief Medical Officer at the ‘Urdd National Eisteddfod’ festival in Wales with over 100,000 spectators in attendance. Craig has also employed his medical skills for charitable causes, running a medical clinic in a remote part of North East India as well as being involved in a pioneering ‘out of hospital Cardiac Arrest’ study aimed at improving CPR skills. Craig takes a very personal, hands-on approach to the business and is actively involved in the strategic developments of all training, events, and projects.

Children Unite is a registered charity that promotes participatory approaches to working with exploited children. Since 2010 we have worked in over 15 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America with children's rights agencies and donors that are supporting exploited children and young people. Through consultancy : We work with NGOs and donors that support exploited children and young people. Our advice service builds organisations' capacity to integrate children's participation into organisational policy and structure, and develop programmes that are based on needs identified by children themselves. Our technical advice and consultancy includes programme evaluation and grant assessment, qualitative research and policy reviews as well as capacity building and training staff and children. Through our projects : We facilitate children's activism and advocacy in order to influence national and international policy and practice. We design and co-ordinate participatory research and projects that empower exploited children. We have successfully supported child domestic workers to campaign nationally and internationally; influencing the International Labour Organisation's Domestic Workers Convention and introducing local by-laws to protect children from exploitation.
