Born on July 15th, 1947, Mian Jehangir Shahid grew up in Lahore with his five siblings. Their father, Saadat Din, was a cotton dealer and his mother was a homemaker. He attended school away from his family in the city of Abbottabad, at the Abbottabad Public School. He was always an inquisitive and innovative student who liked to experiment with new ideas; an aptitude which would later lead him to find his potential in the courier industry. After completing his Master’s Degree in Economics, Mian Jehangir Shahid has moved to Karachi in 1970 and joined a newly growing advertising industry in Pakistan. His company made billboards that targeted the cities’ major commercial districts. New ideas for promoting products were being developed as the concept of advertising was becoming popular. However, as a recession hit the country in the 1970s, businesses in Pakistan were greatly de-valued and could no longer afford to spend money on expensive advertisement campaigns. Then entering the manufacturing industry following his advertising streak, he was surprised by the involuntary lack of correspondence between businesses due to the lack of a secure and systemized courier or postal service. Seeing a potential for a courier company that could connect the whole nation, Mian Jehangir Shahid established Leopards Courier Services Pvt. Ltd. in 1983 with five destinations in the country. His foresight and vision lead towards the expansion of the company, and after establishing one of the largest nationwide networks, Leopards went international in the year 2000, setting up offices in Dubai, Singapore and China. Moreover, Mian Jehangir Shahid in recent past opened Leopards logistics and shipments; a division of leopards focused on the national and international transportation of heavy shipments and containers. She has a shelf full of business awards and was in the top 100 UK female entrepreneurs list by F:entrepeneur as well as being a best selling author in the book ‘Inspirational Women Of The World’ “My life purpose is to save lives” Prior to creating her business Jenni was a police officer in London and experienced a vast number of real first aid emergencies including treating casualties at Edgware Road tube station during its bombing in 2005. In 2014 Jenni (a mum of 3) was sitting in a coffee shop chatting with a friend when her friend’s daughter choked, being an advanced first aider, Jenni knew just what to do. She quickly stepped in and successfully removed the blockage and the little girl recovered perfectly. It was this moment that she realised then that first aid was not something regularly offered to new parents and that so many parents didn’t have basic first aid skills that could so easily save their child’s life. When researching suitable first aid training classes she found that parents were restricted to longer certified classes aimed at the corporate market who often showed frightening videos and told distressing stories. Jenni felt she wanted to educate parents in a way that made them feel happy, confident and empowered rather than terrified and intimidated. Jenni has grown her business from table top to a being multi-award winning franchise with trainers running their own successful Daisy businesses UK wide. She is considered a paediatric first aid expert. She has featured in numerous publications, has a huge celebrity parents portfolio and volunteers her time at many national charity events. Jenni says “We train thousands of parents every year and when you get that call to say a parent saved their child’s life thanks to our class, that is the most unbelievably emotional feeling. When I first started out after qualifying I very quickly recognised a common denominator in a significant proportion of my clients. So often they were presenting with low self-esteem, self-loathing, a limited ability to be kind to themselves, poor body image and problems with assertiveness tending to use anger as a way of communicating or were easily intimidated/bent against their will. Furthermore, I was working with a lot of clients who were clinically obese or painfully thin and I learnt very quickly that even the ones presenting with normal body weight were often abusing themselves by self-harming, substance abuse and poor diet. This is frequently coupled with difficult, challenging relationships with themselves and others, and they were commonly using food/alcohol/nicotine or other mood-altering substances to self-medicate. These early observations lead me on my first steps along the special interest path of eating disorders. In 2007 I trained as a Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders and Obesity at The National Centre for Eating Disorders (NCFED) and after qualifying I went on to become a Registered Supervisor. Over the following years through my specialist work, I built a solid reputation of being a caring and approachable therapist. I have an innate ability to very quickly put clients at ease at the same time as getting directly get to the heart of the presenting issues and work collaboratively to get the job done, whilst supporting the individual to move into psychological health and to live the life they deserve to live. After many years of established private practice work I began to turn my attention to an area I had often experienced as lacking when working with clients. Very frequently it became apparent that clients were experiencing a lack of awareness when it came to eating disorders from GPs, general counsellors and other relevant first points of contact. In response to this I began developing training sessions for professionals to begin to bridge the knowledge gap. After several years of running successful training alongside my practice, I have taken the decision to focus largely on the training side of my work. I do continue to supervise the work of practitioners seeking support in the field of eating disorders and people in larger bodies, as well as offering breakthrough sessions for new clients and undertaking family support work.
