At the Good Growth Hub, all internship opportunities pay at least the London Living Wage of £11.95 per hour – but we strive for higher.  For businesses, the Good Growth Hub is an excellent resource to establish good working standards and to become more inclusive. Target sports for all, assault rifle shooting, axe throwing, archery, crossbow and airgun shooting for all that want to try their hand at it.We can provide assault rifle shooting. That’s real bullets using a semi-automatic rifle. The bullets fly as quick as you can pull the trigger from a 25-round magazine. Our shooting club is home office approved and follows the sports of Lightweight sport rifle and gallery rifle. In the future we intend to provide competitions for people to test their skills against others. For those that have already tried the Assault rifles, we now have new for 2022, a speed shooting activity. Our range is suitable for indoor air gun shooting. We also provide coaching for those that wish to compete on the air gun circuit, including opportunities for postal competitions. We offer training to international level in crossbow shooting through the National Smallbore rifle association and the world crossbow shooting association. Both postal and face to face competitions are available at up to 65 metres distance on away days. Axe throwing is a great sport for beginners to get into, and we have a resident club called the Essex backyard throwers who are always looking for members and again compete both nationally and internationally. For those wanting to get to that standard all it needs is a bit of practice and guidance and look out world. We have a range of Clubs which offer development and time to practise your skills, amongst new friends. In this environment we can provide coaching and training to help you along your way. The Berkshire Outdoor Education Trust was founded in 1977/78. The original purpose of the Trust was to locate and operate an Outdoor Education Centre for the use of Berkshire school children. The Trust was started with the active encouragement and support of Berkshire County Council and its then Director of Education, Peter Edwards and the late John Wood Griffiths an officer in the Berkshire Education department. The Trustees raised and borrowed the money to buy an existing centre from Glamorgan County Council in the small settlement of Rhos y Gwaliau in the Snowdonia National Park, close to the market town of Bala. In the early years Berkshire County Council paid the teachers’ salaries and gave an annual grant towards the other teaching equipment that was needed, mainly protective clothing. The Trustees managed the centre, hired and paid the domestic and maintenance staff and settled all other expenses including food and heating costs out of the fees charged to attendees. With teachers’ salaries paid by the LEA the additional amount needed to be charged to pupils was quite modest. Over time, however, the level of subsidy given by the County Council was reduced and when in 1998 the 6 Unitary Councils replaced the County Council the subsidy was phased out completely. In consequence fees had to rise considerably. It was at this point that the Trustees decided to sell the centre to the present owner, who had been a teacher at the centre for some time previously. The trust then invested the proceeds of sale and now use the income to assist the most financially disadvantaged young people in the County enjoy the benefits and experience of time spent in outdoor educational activity.

We, Ruth’s family, are left devastated by the sudden loss of a lovely mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, sister-in-law and friend. She leaves a huge, aching gap in all our lives and, we know, in the lives of so many others who were lucky enough to know her. We are grateful to all our friends for their thoughts and support now and in the difficult years ahead. Ruth will be remembered as the kind, funny, confident, vivacious, caring person she was and for all that she achieved in life. We also ask those who did not know Ruth please to respect our privacy, as we come to terms with our unfathomable grief, and to consider carefully how their words and actions might impact on others. As the many tributes to her from the broader school and Caversham community attest, Ruth cared deeply not just about academic results, but also about the general well-being and happiness of the pupils and staff whom she taught and led. Caversham Primary was a very happy school under Ruth’s leadership and, despite the many challenges that always go with the role of Head, she was happy there too. Ruth was a dedicated headteacher and an excellent teacher. She loved the pupils and the staff of Caversham Primary School and was very proud to have been its Head Teacher for 12 years and previously Deputy Head Teacher for four years. Ruth was a force for good in her life, and we want her to be a force for positive change after her death too. We would urge anyone who has been affected by her death to talk about their feelings and know that help is available.
