I am the founder of AdvocacyTutor.com. I am a Barrister and was called to the Bar in 1993. I spent a number of years at the Criminal Bar representing clients charged with all manner of offences, from unlawful abstraction of electricity to Murder. I have appeared in courts throughout England and Wales, including the Court of Appeal. I currently hold a judicial position; I sit as a panel member of the Teaching Regulation Agency. The role involves hearing and determining the outcome of allegations of misconduct against members of the teaching profession. I am a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, and the Criminal Bar Association. I am also an accredited Advocacy Trainer; I received my accreditation from the National Institute of Trial Advocates in 1999. In 1998 I decided to combine practice at the Bar with a career in Post Graduate Education. I developed my teaching career at BPP Law School, where I held various roles, including Course Director of the Bar course and Head of Advocacy Skills on the Bar Course. In 2010 I was awarded the title of Associate Professor of Law. I have over 20 years’ experience in legal education training, I have extensive experience of teaching civil and criminal Advocacy on the Bar Course, Bar Transfer Test (BTT), Higher Rights of Audience course, Legal Practice Course, and Continuing Professional Development courses, (CPD). I also have substantial experience of course and assessment design. I have a passion for teaching, learning and empowering individuals. About the chief instructor Gursharan Sahota was born in Kenya, East Africa but moved to the UK at the age of 12. He took up Karate at the age of 14 in the local Bedford club and was awarded black belt 1st dan (shodan) four years later. Now an 8th Dan, Gursharan has competed in a multitude of kata and kumite events, many at national and international level. But the most significant event in his career was the visit he made in 1984 to Japan. There, he fulfilled a great ambition by training in a Japanese dojo under the instruction of Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa. This experience proved to be a turning point for Gursharan. On his return to England, he realised the trip had been the inspiration he needed to dedicate his future to training and teaching karate as a way of life. Gursharan’s first club was opened in Luton/Dunstable in 1981 and this is now the association’s hombu (HQ). Having been a teacher of the art for many years, he formed his own association in 1993 – TISKA (The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association) which is now one of the biggest associations in the UK. Gursharan’s love of karate has never diminished. He still teaches over 35 classes a week in the UK and regularly takes master classes internationally. All in all, he has brought hundreds of students of all ages up to black belt standard and beyond. He is also involved in charity work, helping to subsidise trips for surgeons to third world countries to operate on underprivileged children. He has, for many years, funded many projects in India, and is at present helping to fund the building of a new school.

On becoming an independent social enterprise, we went on to deliver large-scale neighbourhood regeneration programmes like the Single Regeneration Budget, New Deal for Communities and Neighbourhood Renewal Funding. In 2011 Renaisi was part of the consortium that set up the Big Local programme. Our role managing the ‘reps’ took us beyond London and allowed us to bring together the two halves of our expertise; supporting communities and social research. Alongside that national work we delivered services in Islington, Haringey and Hackney that helped migrant communities get the most out of the local school system. While the policy and funding landscape has changed a lot in the last 20+ years, ‘place’ has remained the lens we use to consider our work. We’re constantly learning from the different perspectives we see from working directly with communities, with the providers of services and the investors in communities. At CYT, we push tradition to one side and are renowned for making fresh, exciting, memorable physical theatre that truly celebrates the vibrant energy of our young people. We devise our own work and aim to break the mould in young people's theatre. We strongly believe that theatre is as much about the finished show, as the process it takes to get there. It's the friends you make, the challenges you overcome together, the voice you find, the creativity, passion and commitment. It's the memories that will stay with you forever and a way of working that will positively shape your future, in whichever direction you are headed. We are not your average stage school. Our theatre aims to thought-provoke and joy-evoke, exploring issues and themes relevant to young people today. Social and emotional development is at the very heart of our work, always striving to uplift, empower and inspire our performers and audiences. We have proudly taken part in National Theatre Connections eight times, performing vibrant new work at Parabola Arts Centre, Bristol Old Vic, Theatre Royal Bath and Royal & Derngate. Situated in the heart of the community of Driffield, we are a unique and special place to learn. ‘Learning for Life’ is the foundation of all we do at Kings Mill and underpins our whole curriculum from Early Years through to Sixth form. The school caters for pupils aged 2-19 years. We are on two sites. The main school site houses Early Years through to Key Stage 4. The school was completed in May 2017 and has been purpose built to meet the needs of our pupils. Alongside eleven new classrooms we also have a new hydrotherapy pool, rebound room, sensory therapy room and sensory rooms. Students aged 16-19 are based at The Kings Mill Student Centre which is based at Driffield Secondary School approximately a mile away from the main site. This comprises three classrooms and a combined common room and food technology area. There is also opportunity for joint working with Driffield School. Our sixth form students also visit main site to access the facilities as required. All our pupils and students have complex needs and we offer specialist provision for pupils on the autistic spectrum and pupils with multi-sensory needs. Our curriculum principles and ethos are supported by a wide range of activities which happen on and off site. Sport plays a very important role in the life of the school and we believe in encouraging healthy competition and leadership skills. Martin has an degree in agriculture from Wye College, University of London. He then taught for 16 years at Writtle College specialising in financial management, agricultural trade, EU policy and business strategy. Martin also established a series of projects to link the College with other EU states to facilitate staff and student exchange, joint course delivery and the delivery of EU funded projects. He has taught short courses in Finland, the Netherlands and Romania. He continues to work closely with the education sector and now gives guest lectures on food markets and policy at the National Centre for Food Manufacturing at the University of Lincoln. Martin co-founded an import business in 1990 which he sold in 1999 and was a partner in the family farm J A Collison and Sons from 1994-2008 which supplies cut flowers to supermarkets. He founded Collison and Associates with Lynn in 2002, having been a consultant since 2000. His clients have included a wide range of commercial, public and third sector bodies and he specializes in developing strategies, projects and programmes to deliver change in rural areas. During 2012-13 Martin worked alongside the team developing the UK Agri-Tech Strategy. Martin is a member of: Greater Lincolnshire Food Board, Greater Lincolnshire Water Management Board, Norfolk Rural Development Strategy delivery group and the CLA’s Agriculture and Land Use Committee. He was Vice Chair of the Fens Adventurers Leader RDPE Group (2010-‘13) and is Chair of the Cambridgeshire Fens Leader group (2015-2020). He leads the Communications and Engagement work of Water Resources East (WRE). As well as his Higher Education, consultancy and business experience Martin was a Principal Examiner for ‘A’ Level applied business for AQA from 2000-’13 following previous work as an examiner for City and Guilds and Edexcel.
