Our founder, Leonie Urdang moved to London from South Africa to escape the social effects that Apartheid had on people of all classes and ethnicities. When Leonie started the Urdang Academy in 1970 her vision was to break barriers that segregated the dance world, which at that time only accepted a particular type of person with a certain look. She looked beyond the surface and saw the individual, laying this as the founding ethos of her school. The only thing that has changed since then is that the theatre world has caught up with that vision. Increasingly shows are about characters and personalities – dancers that can sing or singer-actors that can dance – and the performers in demand are those whose personality (combined with talent) shine out. With Solange Urdang taking over from her mother in 2001, Urdang stayed true to its founding vision, constantly seeking opportunities to revitalise and cement diversity and inclusivity in new and exciting ways.

We aim to diversify the Creative Sector. We achieve this by identifying, supporting and promoting non-traditional artists and filmmakers who might not otherwise consider a career in the sector. FILM: Through work with such organisations as Aik Saath and SWIPE, our Slough based YES programme provides free workshops in filmmaking open to all 11-25 year olds. ART: With the support of our Arts Council England partners HOME, we run quarterly free Meetups for all aspiring or professional artists aged 18+ alongside our new Arts Forum for leaders across Berkshire. Our clients ranging from BAFTA, BFI, Creative England, BBC, and Channel 4 contract us to devise and deliver regional and national outreach for their own training, recruitment and commissioning programmes. 2.TALENT DEVELOPMENT & PROMOTION Our goal is to develop the skills of a diverse talent pool and prepare each individual to progress on to successful paid employment in the creative industry. Through The Creative Collective, our talent development programme comprising a range of accredited and informal bespoke training workshops, as well as our one-to-one personalised Individual Progress Plan support, we ensure progress through networking, mentoring, accredited training as well as exclusive work placements, apprenticeships and connecting with funders. We have project funding from Arts Council England and work closely with NPO theatre company RIFCO. In film, our core partner (since 1999) is Pinewood Studios but we also regularly work with BFI, Screen Skills and Creative England . 3. CREATIVE & COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION From developing individual talent to supporting larger projects ranging from producing a first piece of art, to shooting your first drama, our focus is on producing projects that tell stories from new perspectives not currently seen in the mainstream media or art world. We co-develop, script, shoot and edit high-quality, emotive and engaging, cost-effective documentary, drama, animation and motion graphics and have a talent for connecting charitable and commercial clients. Through our ground breaking partnerships with companies like the BBC, Channel 4 and Disney, we continue to explore and build on new immersive content. We have developed new projects and ways of working through collaborations with global companies like SEGRO and innovative funders like The Rothschild Foundation.

Aviv Dance Studios was founded in 2002 by Nikki Avron. In August 2003, with the support of the Prince’s Trust, the Aviv Dance Studio in Watford was built and became the home of Aviv. In 2013, Nikki stood down from her role, and Fay Liberty took over as Principal/ Director. Since the founding of Aviv in 2002, adults and children in Watford and Harpenden have benefited from a large range of dance classes from beginner to professional levels with a particular emphasis on commercial or ‘MTV’ styles such as Street Dance and Hip-Hop. Aviv boasts a team of highly qualified teachers each with performing experience in their individual specialist fields. For teacher’s biographies, please go to the Faculty page. A variety of classes are available from beginner to advanced levels in Commercial/Street Dance, Freestyle/Hip-Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary and Tap. Please see our Timetables page. Pauline and her husband Steve opened their first Academy when they couldn't find anything that ticked all the boxes for their son, Charlie. They wanted to be able to provide performing arts tuition that was enjoyable, fun and would build children’s confidence. More importantly, they wanted to help young people to pursue their life's dreams, whatever those dreams may be, using drama to help children realise their potential and blossom into confident young people. To Pauline and Steve, the performing arts is more than just singing and acting and they wanted to reflect that at PQA. They therefore created a performing arts school that covers the entire arts spectrum, including lessons in Comedy, Drama and of course Film & TV. When 130 students turned up for the opening of the first PQA Academy, they knew they were onto something! Over 15 years later, PQA has more than 200 Academies nationwide and is the largest provider of Film & TV education for young people in the UK.

Over the last years, he has performed live at many different venues in venues in London such as the 100 Club, The Borderline, the O2 Kentish Town, the O2 Academy Islington, the Tramp Members Club, the Albert’s Members Club and many more. By recording and playing with many artists he became able to adapt in a variety of different styles of music. Most recently he had the opportunity to work with well known music producers/engineers such as Sam Miller (Paloma Faith, Christina Aguilera, PJ Harvey, The Temperance Movement, One Direction, Razorlight, The Magic Numbers) and Steve Lyon (Depeche Mode, The Cure, Paul McCartney, George Best, Laura Pausini) and to perform next to great musicians such as the session guitarist Joon Switon (The Roots, Compton, Les Nubians, Ayo, Eric Roberson and more), the L.A. based jazz singer Tricia Tahara (Patrice Rushen, Alphonso Johnson, Lenny White, Nungu Chancler), percussionist João Caetano (Incognito, Chaka Khan, Mario Biondi, Omar, PB Underground) and guitarist Tolis Zavaliaris (Pete Lockett, Laurence Cottle, Neil Angilley, Vanessa Mae). In addition, he also had the chance to open for artists such as LP, Steve Cradock (Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene) and Finley Quaye. He is now continuing to work in London as a professional musician and his aim is to become a versatile bassist and to gain as much experience as possible.
