K2 Academy of Contemporary Jewellery is the ideal place for those who want to develop their jewellery design and making skills, whilst stepping outside of mainstream boundaries and thinking critically about the creative process. Our students learn new skills and traditional jewellery techniques whilst experimenting with a variety of different materials, including base and precious metals, gemstones as well as unconventional recycling materials and found objects. In addition, we introduce them to the professional jewellery industry by teaching business skills. Classes are taught in small groups of no more than 10 students, enabling you to spend quality time with your tutors. K2 offers a comprehensive programme of all-level jewellery courses, creative short courses, masterclasses and SQA accredited diploma courses   DEDICATED TUTORS DELIVERING QUALITY TRAINING. K2 Academy was established and is directed by jewellery artists and tutors Kelvin J Birk and Katrin Spranger, both of whom have 20+ years of experience in goldsmithing, metal work and tutoring. Hello and welcome. My name is Jacqueline Rolls and I am an artist/sculptor who creates using willow and other natural materials. Being a self-taught artist with experience gained over many years. I create work using a variety of different techniques, many of which I have discovered myself. My creations are created with materials that I have either grown myself, purchased from other growers, gathered or salvaged myself. There is something quite special about working with a material that was once a living thing, the desire to connect and work with the materials that I use often feels as if I am breathing new life into my creations. Working in this way is akin to drawing and painting in many ways, layering, shaping, constraining and feeling free to express me to make mistakes and new discoveries. I sometimes incorporate other materials into my work including metal when it is needed e.g for bird legs or to give it strength for a public artwork that needs to be secured or needs additional strength. I also love sharing my passion for creating with others and so as well as creating work to sell I also provide my own range of workshops which are available via my workshop page I also work with many different organisations providing activities for public art /community engagement projects as well as providing private and bespoke activities for more details look at the relevant pages in the menu above.

Peat Oberon is an artist blacksmith based at a forge in the grounds of Preston Hall Museum near Stockton-on-Tees in the North-East of England. He originally trained as a craft teacher and taught various subjects including crafts and technical drawing in schools and sixth form college for 15 years before becoming a full-time blacksmith in 1980. Since then he has earned his living and an esteemed world reputation producing a wealth of architectural, sculptural and decorative ironwork. Peat began teaching the craft of blacksmithing in 1990, combining his skills as an artist, craftsman and teacher with his life-long passion for working with metal. At his School of Blacksmithing he delivers quality courses where his students enjoy the expert tuition of a master blacksmith.

I have been working as a blacksmith for over 30 years and have lots of experience and anecdotes to share with participants over the course! I enjoy my career in metalworking, and making and creating products is a totally satisfying way to earn a living. I want to re-create this experience for everyone attending my courses – a real taste of a day in the life of a blacksmith! I was always driven by the desire to ‘make things’ – and on leaving school I started working at a local forge and learning the trade. I choose metal as a medium originally purely as it was more forgiving than wood, although I do enjoy working with wood too nowadays and have started a bit of side-line in sheds and summerhouses.
