Shalamar Children’s Homes – Isola, Cairn, and shortly Glebeland – are based in family-sized houses around rural Essex. We are residential children’s homes with a therapeutic approach. Our aim is to resolve issues in young people and not to merely contain them. We achieve this by using attachment-based care and to look for the communication behind any behaviour. We believe behaviour is a form of communication. We would look for the meaning behind all negative behaviour in the young people within our care. From this, we work with our young people helping them to not only to control their negative behaviours, but also attempting to work through the issues which are the cause of these behaviours. Shalamar carers use Dan Hughes’ PACE method to gain a positive attachment with the young people within our care. PACE stands for Playfulness – Acceptance – Curiosity – Empathy. Given time, we aim to create a stable, secure base and safe haven for all young people staying at Shalamar, allowing the space and the confidence to heal and develop. At Shalamar, there are daily community meetings where young people have the opportunity to voice any issues they have with their care, or state how it can be improved. This space allows for the young people to feel listened to, raising their confidence, self-esteem and making them feel valued and cared for. Shalamar’s work looks to change the negative way that young people view themselves and the adults around them. Through attachment-based nurture we restore their self-belief and provide positive experiences with adults who care. We understand that many children who display challenging behaviour have had trauma at some point in their life. This usually manifests itself in emotional developmental delay. Therefore we treat the child at their developmental/emotional age, rather than strict biological age. This creates a realistic and settled environment for the young person who can succeed and receive praise for their work and efforts. We also provide a psychodynamic behavioural approach, which is worked alongside the attachment framework, where we bring the subconscious to the conscious. This allows the young people to understand why they are feeling and acting the way they are and is the first step to taking control of their actions.

MistryMaths is a unique and unparalleled website that offers enterprising, innovative, engaging and high impact mathematics lessons and materials for a variety of people from students, teachers, lecturers, parents, schools, universities, education consultants and professionals. The author is Manoj Mistry and his work has proved immensely popular so very quickly. His work has gained over one million downloads and he was nominated for a 2013 Times Educational Supplement Award for his resource contribution to the education sector. Manoj is on a mission to change the face of mathematics education in the UK and abroad. He has started an eventful journey in banishing the stereotype of mathematics education being dull, inaccessible and worksheet based. Manoj wants to help tackle the skills shortage of mathematicians in the UK and challenge the notion that it is ok to be innumerate. No one ever confesses to being illiterate. There is a clear structure to every lesson with a minimum of three parts (majority of lessons are split into more). Lessons have been planned with OFSTED grading criteria in mind. The use of a yellow background is to help with retention. Not only is content being taught but links are readily made with skills that students can transfer into the outside world. Manoj would like to acknowledge the creativity of Laura Rees-Hughes and Tristan Jones for the work they have uploaded on www.tes.co.uk. Their creative ideas have inspired a number of different activities within his lessons. Manoj is passionate about improving the life chances of young people and bringing the UK back on the map as a pioneer in mathematics education. He has received countless praise and plenty of lovely messages from a variety of people he has never met from around the world, mentioning how much he has changed their lives and the learning experiences of students for the better. An educational institution messaged him saying they often hold exclusive meetings on how they can incorporate his resources into their scheme of work. Through desire, graft and word of mouth he has built up a brand in education, called MistryMaths, which is rapidly becoming well-renowned around the UK.

The Loughborough Junction Action Group (LJAG) is a volunteer-led social action charity that works to improve the environment of Loughborough Junction and the lives of the people who live and work here. It is our mission to make Loughborough Junction a great place to live and work. It was formed in 2008 following the murder of a young man, Andrew Pratt, in Southwell Road. Local residents in the road and surrounding streets came together to do something positive for their neighbourhood which they felt had been neglected for too long. LJAG works to achieve its mission through its projects which focus on community events, skill-sharing, greening, children’s activities and place-making. LJAG works to build a strong civic society in Loughborough Junction and has a record of involving volunteers across our diverse neighbourhood. LJAG’s fundraising activities have brought over £600,000 into Loughborough Junction and we have been instrumental in attracting over £3 million of public investment into the area. Over 13 years LJAG has delivered art projects which have improved a pedestrian alleyway under a railway bridge; run two street photography projects; launched an augmented reality app linked to the history of World War One; run community events including four street parties; health events; a community festival; run cycle maintenance classes; craft workshops; a mapping project; installed street planters and run community planting days. We have worked with Lambeth council on the production of the Loughborough Junction Plan and on public realm improvements and we facilitate monthly meetings of the Loughborough Junction Neighbourhood Forum. LJAG runs successful projects: Loughborough Farm, The Platform Cafe, Grove Adventure Playground, Craft Workshops and an informal social prescribing project, Wish You Were Here. Loughborough Farm is a successful community food growing project, where volunteers come together on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday to grow vegetables and to socialise. The Loughborough Farm also has a successful outreach programme on two council estates and each summer delivers tomato plants and herbs to residents of the Loughborough Estate to grow on their balconies. The Farm is also responsible for the orchard in Wyck Gardens.

Termly learning, teaching and assessment meetings take place between SLT, class teachers and support staff using standardised assessments and professional judgements which help identify priorities to take forward and to identify learners who may require targeted support. All staff participate in an annual performance conversations to identify opportunities for career long professional learning linked to our school priorities. Hi, I'm Beth. I’m a Speech and Language Therapist from Essex, UK. I'm a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, from the UK, with extensive experience working with children with speech, language and communication needs in a range of settings including schools, preschools and clinics. I'm mum to two primary school-aged children, one of whom has special needs. I also provide a regular service to a number of schools in my local geographical area. I have a master’s degree in Health and Human Sciences (MSc), qualifying as a Speech & Language Therapist in 2009. My undergraduate degree (BA Hons) is in Linguistics and Spanish. I’m registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, the Health and Care Professionals Council and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP). I have been the chair of my local ASLTIP group for a number of years, organising regular meetings and suporting a large group of 18 members covering a range of clinical specialisms. I’ve worked with lots of practitioners and staff in schools and preschools throughout my career and I've provided a lot of information, advice, training and support for a variety of Speech and Language topics. As well as training education staff, I also deliver seminars as a guest lecturer to Speech and Language Therapy Students at the University of Essex. These cover a range of topics, including service provision, speech sounds, stammering, vocabulary and word finding, assessment and intervention. Our Development, Training and Support offer is designed to provide essential advice and guidance to enable your church school to flourish. This includes a range of briefings, network meetings and training courses, all of which are either free or offered at significant discount to schools who are signed up to our Service Level Agreement (S4S). In addition, schools who have signed up for Governance+ are able to access all our governor training for no additional charge. Living Your Vision This is the heart of our training and support offer covering the essentials needed to develop a flourishing church school. This work to support developing your school’s Christian vision and ethos includes training for SIAMS self-evaluation and other aspects of SIAMS readiness. It also covers a series of networks and training events to develop and enhance collective worship and spirituality (including Space Makers). HeadSpace This is where you will find our support and training offer for school leaders including our series of briefings (free to schools signed up to S4S) and conferences for our headteachers across the Diocese. Termly virtual briefing sessions will provide an opportunity to hear the latest news and information from the ODBE team including updates from the Church of England Education Office, up to date learning from ongoing SIAMS and Ofsted inspections and upcoming development opportunities. A virtual mini conference and an in-person summer conference provide additional opportunities for school leaders to consider specific aspects of church school leadership – our Autumn conference will look in depth at SIAMS and its impact on school improvement. RE Central Comprises all our development, training and support for the leadership and delivery of high quality RE in schools. This includes half termly networks for RE leaders (free to schools signed up to S4S), the Developmental Thinking conference and training for Early Career Teachers. Governance This is our governance training offer which covers the key aspects of effective governance including induction, SIAMS, RE and Collective Worship, effective monitoring and evaluation, appraisal, induction and academisation. In January 1882, the rate collectors of Holborn invited their Metropolitan colleagues to a meeting to discuss the effect a projected reorganisation of London local government might have on their jobs and prospects. Some eighty officers attended and at a further meeting on the 25th February it was decided to form, with effect from the 1st April 1882, the Metropolitan Rate Collectors Association. As membership grew, the title was subsequently changed to the Association of Rate Collectors and Assistant Overseers in 1911. Changes in legislation resulted in a further change in title and in 1927, the Incorporated Association of Rating and Valuation Officers was established. The association was more commonly known as the Rating & Valuation Association (RVA) and no further change to the title was made until January 1990 when, with the impending introduction of Community Charge and National Non-Domestic Rate, we became known as the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation (IRRV). A key aim of the Institute is to support its members’ professional and personal development and the sharing of best practice. We keep our members informed of current issues through our magazines, publications and a comprehensive website. Our conferences and meetings offer opportunities for networking with other professionals from the UK and overseas whilst the Forum Service continues to attract new organisations each year; the current membership now exceeding 200. We seek to influence the course of legislative and professional matters through dialogue with government bodies and other professional organisations and through commissioning and conducting original research. This is led by the Institute’s three Faculty Boards; Local Taxation and Revenues, Benefits and Valuation. The Institute has a membership of over 2,400 and offers a range of qualifications covering its professional fields. It is a nationally approved awarding body for its vocational and examination-based qualifications. Each year, in excess of 300 students sit our examinations and vocational assessments. Successful students join the thousands of IRRV qualified professionals currently working in both the public and private sector within the fields of revenues, benefits and valuation. IRRV qualifications and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme are designed to meet the needs of members at every stage of their careers. A thriving network of Associations is one of the IRRV’s main strengths. Our Associations organise programmes of professional and social activities that take place regionally and provide the opportunity for all members to become more involved in the work of the Institute.

Cuddesdon College was established in 1854 by Bishop Samuel Wilberforce, whose vision was for a college independent of any specific Church faction, and with a focus on the discipline of daily prayer and spiritual formation. A merger with Ripon Hall in the 1970s, forming Ripon College Cuddesdon, brought in new resources and fresh thinking, and helped develop a new and open approach to theological study. The incorporation of the Oxford Ministry Course in 2006 (now the Part-time Pathway), the West of England Ministerial Training Course in 2011 (now Cuddesdon Gloucester & Hereford) and the Portsmouth Pathway Cuddesdon in 2015 has enabled the College to offer a wide range of outstanding part-time courses that have been well established for over forty years. From 2014, a partnership with Church Mission Society has enabled us to offer training for Ordained Pioneer Ministers. The Cuddesdon Sisters In 2012, the remaining Sisters from two Anglican religious orders - Communities of St John Baptist and The Good Shepherd - joined the College community, providing a praying presence throughout the year. Sadly, due to the pandemic, they moved in the autumn of 2020 to St Mary's Convent and Nursing Home in Chiswick. We miss them being here greatly but keep in close contact with them.
