SALT South West is a Plymouth-based Christian voluntary organisation ( known as SAIFLINE until 2006), offering direct help to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. SALT is a member agency of The Survivors’ Trust and our Co-ordinator is a member of TAG (Trauma and Abuse Group). We are accountable to our Management Committee of five and have a Council of Reference which includes an MP, a Bishop, another Minister of Religion and a media presenter. We are currently a team of ten members, two of whom are counselling students and three of whom are currently paid part-time (Team Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator and Administrator). Our volunteer listeners have all undertaken the in-house SALT training, some have various counselling qualifications including specific sexual abuse/trauma related subjects. Some members of our team are survivors and bring with them personal experience and knowledge. Supervision is fundamental to our work and each listener receives a minimum of one and a half hours every four weeks. We are a close team and there is always the opportunity to share and offload inbetween when necessary. (Which is often the case in our field of work). Our Annual Away Day gives us a chance to meet outside of work to share, explore and be refreshed as people, not just as co-workers. Behind the scenes, our 60 prayer partners have the important role of supporting us and we meet together once a year. SALT works with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, age 16 and above. Everyone is received by us regardless of background, belief or behaviour. Our services are free of charge but donations are always welcomed. We do not want anyone to be excluded from receiving good quality psychological help.

Ruth Cooper-Dickson is an accredited trauma-informed thrivership and wellbeing coach, and a certified breathwork leader. She is an experienced positive psychology practitioner specialising in post-traumatic growth. Ruth integrates breathwork into her coaching, as well as running transformational breathwork classes. Ruth is focused on helping those who have experienced adverse life situations and difficulties to thrive. Ruth has her own lived experience of trauma, burnout and mental-ill health diagnosis’ moving through her own recovery to healing journey. Ruth’s journey prompted her to serve others offering individuals, a safe and sometimes challenging space to focus on what they need to unlock and grow to thrive. Ruth holds an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology, coupled with accreditation as an EMCC Coaching Practitioner. Ruth is also a qualified Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Hi, I'm Loren Snow: an autism trainer based in Bristol. I’ve spent the past decade studying mental health, psychology, relationships, identity, and just about anything to do with why we humans think and act the way we do. I believe that we're all human, and make mistakes, fumble, fall, laugh, love - and despite our differences, we all share this same connection. I'm a strong believer in having the courage to be open and honest and that our truth and vulnerability can be powerful forces in showing us how connected we really are. In my early-twenties I was diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, and OCD. For me, these were revelations, and all the strange ways I behaved started to make sense. But why in my twenties... surely someone should have noticed or said something?!? As I came to learn more about autism I soon realised that my experience was all too common. The reality is there are many complicated things around autism, such as echolalia, alexithymia, and proprioception; there are many misconceptions in the media, such as autistic people lacking empathy; and there are many mis/un-diagnosed autistic adults out there like I used to be. This made me decide that I should explain these things so others wouldn't have to struggle as I did. I've spoken on podcasts, radio, to large and small crowds. My YouTube videos have been watched by tens of thousands! I've taught thousands of parents of autistic and ADHD children and teach regular courses to parents and autistic people. I see many businesses confused about how to help, parents lost on what to believe, and autistic people struggling to understand themselves. So what better place to learn about autism than directly from an autistic person like myself!

Heavy metal therapy is an online resource and community of people who find metal music helpful for mental well being. It is a place to find and share experiences of how metal has helped us, the meaning we take from songs or lyrics, and play lists that we have found useful. It is for everyone, so we don’t judge each others metal preferences. If you would like to share your own recovery story about how metal has helped you please contact us, we can make stories anonymous if you prefer. We continue to develop a few shared playlists under heavy metal therapy, which can be expanding and changing. We like people to share their own music or art if it comes with a reason/message to do with mental health. We may be a small and select group, but we are open to suggestions of expanding. Hopefully over time this will become led by and shaped by those who use it, so it’s not set in stone, it can grow and change. See this video for a bit more about us.
