Paper marbling; the art of floating ink on a liquid in order to create patterns which are then printed I used to make Turkish marbled paper like those on old endpapers. Highly coloured and often combed, they answered to names such as non-pareil and peacock. The process was controllable so many similar sheets of paper could be produced. Nowadays I marble paper the Japanese way to produce suminagashi; non-repeatable, simple and elegant designs on paper.

Initially Heritage Skills will aim to develop short courses in the core craft areas of historic building conservation such as; the preparation and use of lime mortar, masonry repairs, timber repairs, lime plastering and rendering and repairs to historic roof coverings. These areas will later be developed in the future. Later developments will include the making of and repairs to stained glass windows, the conservation and repair of historic ironwork, the conservation of historic interiors including historic paintwork, historic wallpapers and graining and marbling and finally furniture restoration.

the arienas collective

The Arienas Collective is a creative workshop hub based in a beautiful, Georgian mews home in Edinburgh's historic New Town. The Collective was set up to help local artists and makers earn a living through sharing their creative skills and passions with others. Its name comes from Loch Arienas, a beautiful and remote spot in the Morvern area of the Scottish Highlands. We believe that engaging in creative activity is good for our health and wellbeing. Our workshops suit beginners, returners and those who want to challenge their own creative practice. Group sizes are kept small, so that our artists and makers can give you the help and support you need to get the most from your experience. Join us to release your inner creative and you will leave having learned new skills, made new friends, and with a finished piece we hope you will feel proud of. empire farm

The Empire Farm is a 100-acre Soil Association certified organic farm on the edge of the Blackmore Vale, just south of Wincanton in Somerset. We keep poultry, pigs and a few sheep, and grow fruit and veg. The farm is the venue of our Farm School where we run a wide range of butchery, gardening and smallholder courses. Here you can learn how to set up a micro-holding, become self sufficient in fruit and vegetables, keep pigs and poultry, butcher a pig or lamb, discover the delights of charcuterie or join us for our whole hog weekend.

I am a self employed artist, tutor and workshop leader. My personal working practice is figurative, incorporating my own dance movement language and working from other models and figurative imagery in the out comes of drawing, mixed media, art works, painting and printmaking. I have recently began to explore sculptural mediums and working with clay and throwing on the wheel. I am particularly inspired by the visual narrative gained from documentary and fashion photography and use my own and sourced photography as a visual aid. I currently I am currently teach and facilitate a regular figure and life drawing class, which is of a good standard. I enjoy tutoring adults as well as joining in with drawing and allowing others valid input into the group. I also run family Saturday morning art workshops at ocean studios which have included experimental painting and fun painting and drawing games, narrative book making, clay tiles, printing, marbling, badge making etc I also own my own portable printing press and can lead monotype, dry point etching and Collagraph print-making. I recently completed a year-long ‘defining practice’ course at the Newly School of Art and I endeavour to continue developing my own artists practice as well as working within the community in diverse ways, whilst drawing upon my wealth of experience. I am also keen to make drawn portraits of people at community street events. I continually visit and enjoy art exhibitions, live music, arts cinema, dance performance, theatre, comedy, street performance.

We run workshops which give people the opportunity to learn a new skill, to meet new people and have fun. Each workshop is different, in the past we have run workshops marbling, playing with clay, beeswax wrap making, making an art attack and a fire engine! Monthly Creative Workshops: we run affordable monthly workshops are for adults of all abilities. You do not need any creative experience to attend any of the workshops and we make them as accessible as possible. One off Workshops: run one off workshops for all ages and are often commissioned to create workshops for specific groups or projects. Commissioned workshops: We at Myriad love creating workshops which are tied into events, causes, projects or are wonderfully extraordinary! We have been commissioned to create workshops for many other people and organisations. We are a creative bunch and if you have an idea or something you want made, we can make it into a workshop! We love a challenge! A bit more about us as an organisation… Myriad’s Vision: Myriad’s vision is a society where everyone has confidence in their creativity, regularly enjoys creating wonderful things and engaging with the arts. Myriad’s Mission: To run workshops that bring people together in a fun, relaxed and social environment to nurture their creative confidence and develop their skills. We have met too many people who believe they are not creative, and that are put off participating in any arts project because of fear. We believe that everyone is creative, that they are capable of making amazing things and can get a lot of enjoyment from doing so. We know that sometimes people just need to learn skills to express their creativity and need support and feedback to help them build their confidence, in a non-pressure environment.

Cranborne Chase is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). AONBs are landscapes which are considered so precious that they are protected for the nation. The criteria for designating an AONB include valuable wildlife, habitats, geology and heritage, as well as scenic views. The primary purpose of the AONB designation is to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the area, now and for future generations. Cranborne Chase AONB covers 380 sq miles of countryside overlapping the boundaries of Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire and Somerset. It is a diverse landscape offering areas of rolling chalk grassland, ancient woodlands, chalk escarpments, downland hillsides and chalk river valleys each with a distinct and recognisable character. The landscapes of the AONB today, as they were in the past, are extraordinarily rich.
