Running my 10th and fastest marathon at 49 years old required letting go of perceived limits and underlined the importance of working with a coach who held the possibility for me when I could not. There are no guarantees when you rope-up and set out in pursuit of a dream — only uncertainty amid possibility. So you want someone you can trust holding your ropes. My leadership experience, thirty years of rock climbing around the world and leading climbing expeditions mean I know how to partner people in courageous acts of exploration. I know how to coach you safely through uncertainty, paralysing fear and getting back up after a fall. In addition to 6 years building successful engineering groups at Google in London and New York I was lead facilitator on Google’s internal flagship leadership development program. I’ve worked internationally in the US, UK, Sweden, Finland and India. I’ve lived overseas and traveled extensively, and met many brilliant, inspiring people, like you, with massive potential.

Jo is a fully qualified Physiotherapist and has been working for over 17 years in the profession treating a variety of patients to include Elite athletes, Professional Ballet dancers, amateur sports participants and the general public with complex pain conditions. She completed the training to become a fully certified Modified Pilates teacher in 2003 with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute. Jo lives with her husband, daughter, their son and a springer spaniel in Barnsley and loves keeping herself fit by attending Bootcamp sessions, personal training and running. She is aiming to do her first half marathon soon. In 2006 Jo set up Flex Pilates, originally teaching classes in North Sheffield. Since then the business has expanded to Leeds and Barnsley with people of all ages and abilities enjoying the benefits of this popular exercise. As well as teaching Pilates classes Jo also works with the APPI as an International Lecturer, teaching other Health Professionals the principles of Pilates teaching, enabling them to take the exercise into their practice. This side of her career has seen her travel to America in 2012 to teach 6 courses to rehabilitation professionals. Jo also travels within the UK, lecturing regularly on 3 different Matwork courses developed by the APPI. Having just had her second child, Jo has added Antenatal and Postnatal rehabilitation Pilates classes to the Flex Pilates' repertoire, teaching mums-to-be and new mums alike. After struggling with a muscle separation (Diastasis Recti) with her pregnancy, Jo used Pilates to re-strengthen her own core with great success. Jo is truly passionate about Pilates and loves the way it can help transform an individual's ability to function on a day-to-day basis.

Lisa Sayers is a CNHC and BANT registered BSc nutritional therapist, nutrigenetics counsellor, ACSM certified exercise physiologist/health fitness specialist, sports massage therapist, Stott Pilates instructor, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner, CHEK practitioner, former qualified general nurse and venepuncturist working as a personal trainer and nutritional therapist in Henley-on-Thames, Reading, Marlow (Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire). Lisa qualified as a nurse in 1988, began working in the fitness and health industry in 2003 and has been running her own successful practice since 2005. She regularly teaches in a number of locations including Drummond physiotherapy clinic and Drummond Education, and has published several articles for them and other local health related practices. Lisa now operates from her own air conditioned and well equipped studio and consulting room in Henley-on-Thames where there is private parking available. Lisa’s unique skill sets allow her to take a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to help clients with all types of needs move towards their health and fitness goals. Clients vary from teenagers to the elderly, and range from the able bodied seeking to improve an aspect of their well-being to those suffering from disease, metabolic disorders or in recovery from injury or surgery. Here Lisa is able to offer help drawing upon a range of specialisms including biomechanical analysis, strength training, dietary analysis and programming, nutri-genetic counselling (which enables her to understand an individual genetic strengths and weaknesses-which may impact on health and performance), disease and weight management, back pain management, and post-rehabilitation. Lisa passionately believes that the structure of the body and its overall performance is dependent on genetic make-up and its response to our internal and external environment (this includes exposure to diet, stress, medications, pollutants, toxins and exercise). Therefore by modifying diet, environment and providing 'sensitive' exercise programming a person may be helped to reduce their risk of disease expression, optimise performance and increase health and vitality. Lisa works closely with consultants, surgeons, physiotherapists and complimentary therapists, and takes an evidence based medicine approach to continually improving her own professional practice so that she can help her clients make intelligent decisions relating to their health and fitness goals. Outside of her practice, Lisa is a mum with three grown up daughters and enjoys a number of activities including marathon running and cooking. Lisa enjoys supporting those in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction at Yeldall Manor, Towards Recovery and local community support groups. Lisa is committed to the pursuit of knowledge and continual improvement. She seeks to invest 10% of her time into research and further specialist training, recognising that it is the intelligent application of knowledge as a functionally trained medicine practitioner that is one of her key differentiators. I was convinced that I couldn't run, not even for a bus! However, I was persuaded to join a beginners running group and it turns out that I can. If I can, then anyone can! I particularly like trail running but spend as much time training on the roads. As part of the Rugby Core Team you can find me at parkrun most Saturdays as anything from Run Director to Tail Walker! UKA Coach in Running Fitness (Trail) UKA Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF) UKA Coaching Assistant BSc (Hons) Health Studies L3 Learning and Development L3 Forest School Leader Outdoor First Aid D B S Enhanced Certificated I began running about 4 years ago in a local running group and made the same ‘rookie’ mistakes that most people do, in that I wanted to sprint before I’d learned to run. However, I took onboard my errors and built up gradually, finishing some 5km and 10km runs in 2016/7, vowing never to want to reach a Half Marathon or beyond. Hmmm! Having had a nasty sprain injury in 2017, I had to take a back seat from running for over a year (much of which was down to my own reluctance to get help! Thank you Laura @ LMC Physio), but I’ve now regained most of my previous running fitness level and have since completed a couple of Half Marathons with at least one more long race booked in for 2019. I regularly volunteer at Rugby parkrun, invariably with a camera in my hands, which I thoroughly enjoy. Having this qualification will mean I can pass on my enthusiasm for running to others and start them on their own running journeys. As a fully-qualified paramedic and avid Wolf Runner, she is a great addition to the group, assisting us with the new sector of trail running for Step It Up. UKA Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF) D B S Enhanced Certificated It’s simple, I’m addicted to running, I certainly didn’t start out this way, in fact I used to say I didn’t have the build for running and actively avoided it. When my local gym had to close the pool to repair the roof, I needed to find another way to get my exercise in the morning, at the same time I convinced a friend to come and give park run a go with me. After that first run walk 5k, I was hooked. I got out a few times each week, doing 30 mins of run walk & soon developed the stamina for a full 5k I joined SIU because I saw that they did Adventure Runs which sounded like great fun and after my first session, I knew this was a club I’d enjoy being part of. At SIU everyone is encouraged to do their individual best but we stay together as a group, supporting one and other, no one is ever left behind, or made/allowed to feel that their best isn’t good enough. Hope you’ll join us on the trails soon, after all, what’s stopping you.
