The Five Minute Literacy Box and The Five Minute Number Box have been opened by children of all ages since 2003. Since then, the activities and materials have been updated as necessary with best practice dyslexia teaching. When Jane Kendall (BA, Dip RSA SpLD) founded Five Minute Box she realised the effects that early failure has on self esteem and the impact that anxiety has on working relationships in families and peer groups. Jane worked as a Primary School class teacher, Inclusion manager and trainer of Teaching Assistants in the UK. With her training and experience in Specific Learning Difficulties, she observed that many children in each class were struggling with English and Maths early in their education. She found that using structured multisensory programmes of specific games for just a few minutes each day helped children overcome their difficulties while learning strategies to help themselves. Five Minute Boxes are now used by children all over the world. Early use of Five Minute Box interventions helps identify children with potential specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyscalculia. The activities adapt to each child’s differences. Children love taking ownership over their learning using the Boxes. They learn organisational and sequencing skills and help to choose their session goals. Children experience success, which motivates them further.

John has been involved in the language travel industry for most of his working life. It all began when he decided it was time to leave London for the exciting buzz of Brighton and John took a role in a language school group as Regional Sales Manager. With an intensive travel itinerary John discovered how rewarding it was to meet people from different cultures around the world and to promote learning experiences for students. John’s success saw him rise to Head of Sales and he began dreaming of using his connections to form new businesses to complement the industry. In 2011 these dreams became a reality when John founded The Academy of English language school. Two years later John saw an opportunity to create year round residential centres for student groups and thus Academy Residences was formed. The Academy businesses helped thousands of students experience living and learning in the UK, something John is immensely proud of. In early 2022 John joined Bayswater to bring his breadth of knowledge and experience to the most exciting and ambitious company in the industry. WHAT WE DID: Offered established leaders from the public, private and voluntary sectors who are at or near the CEO level, an opportunity to transform what they and their organisations do. This was done using transformational leadership theory and experiential learning techniques to enable cross-cultural conversations and mutual learning. This enabled each individual to draw on new techniques and cross sector experiences to develop their thinking and practice. OUTCOMES: Leaders who lead with a greater sense of themselves, the systems they work in and the wider network of leaders that they can both influence and draw on as a resource. Shifted the way leaders see their responsibility and accountability not only to their organisation but to the wider context in which they work. Created a network of leaders who together are committed to make change.

Established originally as a Drop in for local children run by local mothers the nursery grew from this into the setting that we have today, incorporating 3 classrooms alongside a dedicated Drop in which runs daily. The nursery is a registered charity and a not for profit organization. The nursery is run by a dedicated team of managers with Trustees and directors that are made up of parents from the nursery. This system allows all parents to get involved in the running of their child’s nursery both on the ground level and in the management side. The nursery is run by Vivien Moxam & Manisha Gorsia who have both been at the nursery well over 15 years, we are local to the Queens Park area and have worked closely with the community. Manisha Gorsia has been the manager for over 13 years and is passionate about the nursery, the children and is always looking at opportunities to build and develop the team and the practices at Hopscotch, Manisha wants all children to leave the nursery with confidence and the skills to go onto school. Manisha runs the team of 20 staff overseeing them on a daily basis with the help of her deputy and room leaders. Vivien Moxam joined the team over 15 years ago while her own children were attending the nursery & has since come on board as a Company Director. Manisha and Vivien work closely together to ensure the smooth running of Hopscotch, with Manisha being child facing & Vivien’s role is to over see the business aspect of the business.

With 20 years’ experience in nurturing the academic development of children aged 3 to 17 years, Gabrielle has expert knowledge of how children learn and how to cater to their educational needs. She understands that a child’s future is shaped by the quality of education he or she receives. Gabrielle understands that in a global economy, and in senior positions of business; families are often required to move in a moment’s notice. First Aid News and UpdatesFirst aid training is something many people see as necessary workplace training. It is so much more than that for our Managing Director, Keith Sleightholm. Many years ago, Keith was driving home when a very drunk driver travelling down the wrong side of the road smashed into Keith's car. For twenty minutes, Keith was trapped in the vehicle and nobody stopped to offer comfort or help until an off duty nurse and fireman came upon the accident, provided first aid and alerted the EMS.
