Nicki and Lisa met in 2009 – on an advanced communication skills course! Lisa was a delegate and Nicki was training to be a facilitator. Lisa subsequently also went through training (she says it’s the most rigorous training she has ever done) . Their working partnership developed over the subsequent years, and they began facilitating courses together regularly in about 2012. They have worked together across England and Wales, and in Ireland. Nicki has had the opportunity to travel to both New Zealand and Singapore to deliver communication skills training. Lisa is not at all jealous… It is very clear to them that the need for communication skills training amongst healthcare professionals is huge, with doctors, nurses and AHPs being asked to have the most difficult conversations with patients and their families without the skills that could make those conversations go as well as possible. The evidence that communication skills can be learned is clear, but staff are not being offered the opportunity to optimise their skills. This feels unfair. In order to continue to be able to deliver training and to develop new facilitators, Nicki and Lisa created Reach in 2018. Both were still in full time NHS employment at the time, but have since retired from clinical work to concentrate on training. They both love what they do

Azadi Trust was founded in 1991 by Dr. Robin Fisher, a GP working in Sparkbrook, Birmingham, as a Christian outreach to the large number of drug users in the area. From these early beginnings Azadi has followed the vision that ‘Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Freedom’ (2 Cor 3:17) which remains our ‘strapline’ to this day, some thirty years on. The surgery and the drugs work had closed by the mid-1990’s, but the Charity remained and in 1997, with the support of the local Anglican church, Christ Church, purchased the old surgery building. This building is now known as Azadi House. In the early days, the ground floor of Azadi House was the base for activities such as a youth club and a homework club, mainly run by Christ Church members but designed to be accessible to the local community; subsequently the Trust supported projects, such as ‘Bright Sparks’ mother and toddler group and ‘Azadi Tigers’ football team, which operated away from its base. On the basis of these early experiences we don’t seek to ‘set up projects’ but rather to ‘follow what God is doing’ and actively support Christians in the inner-city who want to set up or who are already actively running projects, people who have a vision (and warmth and enthusiasm) to reach others with the love of God but do not want the distraction of establishing a structure to accommodate their vision and who would rather just ‘get on with the job’. Hope Garden Project, who have been part of Azadi for over 10 years, are an example of this.

After employment as a draughtsperson and engineering project manager, I have worked in education since 2004. I am now Learning and Teaching Lead at the AMRC Training Centre, run by the University of Sheffield, which delivers Engineering Apprenticeships from Advanced to Degree Level. I joined WEST because I believe passionately that we need to actively change women’s perception of STEM careers – and men’s perception of women in engineering! At ilmburst, we are very excited about launching this project. Excited, because we are passionate about nurturing our children from a young age, nurturing in them a love for their religion and nurturing their spiritual development. The idea for ilmburst began when we found that many of us as parents don’t have the confidence to teach our children their religion. This is due to a variety of reasons. Some of us feel we don’t have the knowledge and ability, others among us don’t have the time to research and prepare the material needed to teach our children and yet others are afraid that they may teach something incorrectly or use inauthentic material. We aim to help change that, in sha Allah. We should all be able to help teach our children in an engaging and fun way. What better way to bond with your children than doing something which is pleasing to Allah? Using the individual skills and talents of our team we have brought together people qualified in Islamic studies, education and teaching experience to create a wide variety of resources across a wide breadth of subjects, which are then designed using professional design software to ensure high quality. Our vision is to help nurture a generation of Muslims who are proud and confident of their Islam, and who then use this confidence to excel academically, into their chosen career paths and be role models within their communities. We ask Allah, the Most High, to grant us all success as parents and teachers, and that He blesses our children and makes them a source of happiness and joy for us in this world and the next.

Welcome to Lighthouse Glass – I hope you like what you see My name is Vic Kirk and I’m a retired engineer. Glass has always interested me and I have enjoyed working with glass for many years, repairing and making leaded glass panels and making terrariums as gifts. Lampworking In 2010 I started my journey of lampwork bead making . I love lampworking because of the reactions of the glass that occur when used with varying conditions in the flame and kiln using different types of glass. Beads can be made from a wide variety of glasses that if used together must be compatible with each other, and when worked can come out of the kiln looking totally different. Making sets of beads provides another level of accuracy to achieve. Opening the kiln the next day always brings surprises !! Studio Workshop Now that I have retired, my wife April and I have opened a retail studio workshop in Astwood Bank, Worcestershire. We run lampwork and jewellery making classes/courses which can be organised to suit your requirements. These are bookable on line. The lampwork studio can comfortably accommodate 2 students. I also provide one to one tuition for people wishing to learn individually. Findings along with my lampwork beads are for sale in the shop and I also do lampworking demonstrations, so if you’re interested come along and see me in action. April, (Fuchsia Cottage Crafts) and my daughter Jay (Jays Jewels) are both avid seed beaders and have made some of my beads into beautiful pieces of jewellery – these are on sale in the shop so if you’re passing – pop in, and take a look. During May half-term, Sixth Form students join the annual Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes to care for and assist the sick and disabled pilgrims. Tumble Tots is a physical play programme. We offer classes where children can develop their physical skills of balance, agility, climbing and co-ordination, whilst at the same time stimulating their imagination, and developing their language and social skills. Our sessions are structured around the different ages and stages of a child's development, from 6 months to school age. Each week we combine fun, excitement and challenge in a safe and caring environment, with our unique equipment and team of specially trained coaches. Children have an enormous amount of natural energy and with proper help and guidance it can be channelled in the right direction. We believe that if we can start children on a healthy way of life early on then it will become a habit for the rest of their lives. Exercise should be about having fun and that’s exactly what Tumble Tots provides! My name is Helen Otto and I live in High Wycombe with my husband, twin 8-year-old daughters and our 4 year old son. I took over running Tumble Tots in Marlow, Maidenhead and Bourne End in June 2017. The girls had been going to Tumble Tots in Marlow for a couple of years and loved the classes. I’d been a Tumble Tot as a child, and had also been a competitive swimmer right up until my late teenage years, so doing something in sport really appealed to me. And I love working with kids. Seeing children grow in confidence and ability week after week is so rewarding. I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by a fab team of coaches who work their socks off to make our classes fun and challenging for our tots. Our Class Leaders are Jade, Jackie, Katie and myself. And our Coaches are Sarah, Lisa and Liz.

Sholfins Swim School CIC is a not-for-profit company born from a passion and love for swimming. We are extremely passionate about our community. Our aim is to try and remove as many barriers as possible, preventing our community of Redditch from learning to swim. The team at Sholfins recognise that due to the pandemic there has been a huge impact on children having access to water in their early years. A number of primary/middle schools have also been unable to provide this life skill to their pupils prior to the pandemic for several different reasons, therefore, falling short of the national curriculum requirements, through no fault of their own. Swimming and water safety has been a statutory element of the national curriculum for physical education in England since 1994. This means that every 11-year-old child should leave primary/middle school with the skills to keep themselves safe. Swimming lessons provide all children with vital skills to help with survival and this is no different for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). By 2025, over 780,000 children with SEND will be in the education system. However, inequalities in the ability of schools and teachers to offer high quality opportunities for them to participate in PE, School Sport or Physical Activity still exist, with disabled young people twice as likely to be physically inactive as non-disabled people. The focus on the new revised Ofsted inspection framework is also an area of consideration for schools to bare in mind. At Sholfins we believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim. All of our instructors are Level 2, Swim England qualified and have RLSS Lifeguard, First Aid and Safeguarding Qualifications. The team are passionate about teaching and ensure that each child is given the support and encouragement to become water confident no matter what age. We are registered with Swim England and follow the learn to swim programme and the School Swimming and Water Safety charter.

The company was founded in 1972 by my grandfather Ray Bundy and led by my father, Michael, shortly after its inception.
