I’m Melanie, I deliver a range of creative art and craft workshops in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. As an artist and craftsperson, I enjoy playing with fused glass and textiles. I’m inspired by the array of colour and texture found in nature. The natural wonders and beauty of the sky, water, trees, insects, flowers and the ever changing seasons never fail to amaze me and influence my creative work. I love learning new creative processes and spending time creating art for pleasure and relaxation. I’m a fully qualified secondary school Art and Design teacher with a BA Hons Degree in Fashion and Textiles. Up until the start of 2020 I worked in mainstream education as an Art Teacher for over fifteen years.

After working in marketing and PR management roles for a decade, I started to teach professional courses in the evenings and got the teaching bug. I now have over 25 years experience in higher education, the last decade being in senior management roles. I’ve also undertaken a doctorate on academic partnerships. I have significant Expert Witness experience in the areas of intellectual property and contract law and have given evidence in Court. Marketing is still my first love. Darleen is an Empowerment Coach, with qualifications in Professional Life Coaching and Hypnosis, as well as years of experience as a safe space facilitator. She is also constantly focusing on broadening her knowledge in many different areas. Making her incredibly resourceful when working with clients. She was born in Germany but raised in Portugal for most of her childhood. At 18 years of age, she took a leap and moved to the UK in the hope to find purpose as she had always felt out of place. At the time, she didn't know where she was headed or what for, all she knew was that her intuition was telling her to jump... Seven years have passed since the day she set foot in England. Since then, she has moved 7 times and explored many different career paths. It has been a roller coaster, but one worth going on. Darleen always felt drawn to spirituality but was afraid of being seen as crazy. So one of her first spiritual eye-openers was a book called The Celestine Prophecy, by James Redfield. From then on, small and big encounters have shaped her beliefs and shown her that she was not alone on this journey. When she attended her first Women's Circle in 2019 (held by Ella Grace Denton), all the judgment, competition and fear she had felt towards and from other women in her life was replaced by love, respect and compassion. It made her feel so abundant and helped her realise that we are all one and that we do not have to go on this journey by ourselves. The moment she arrived home that day, she knew it was something she would love to facilitate for others, as she always wanted to help people. After months of avoiding her intuition (as we are conditioned to do) she finally gave in, looked past the fear of judgment and began to hold space for others. She also began to coach people, as well as share all the knowledge that life has given her via Instagram. Now she has fully committed to her calling, aiming to help her soul clients in every way possible.

We are a UK based business and we want to be as environmentally friendly as possible, but as a business which specialises in cutlery, it’s inevitable that a large percentage of our stock is going to be produced overseas. We love buying from UK makers, it makes sense on many levels and we do so wherever we can, but when it comes to knife making, if we want our shop to represent the best that the world has to offer, then there are certain makers, companies & countries that are an absolute must when sourcing products. So having resigned ourselves to the fact that if we want to offer our customers a carefully curated range of product from some of the best makers in the world, we are going to have to air freight these products to our home base the UK. With this firmly in mind we set about looking at what we could do to help ease this environmental burden (did you know that transportation is one of the worlds biggest polluters? making up 24% of the worlds total CO2 emissions in 2016!) and offset the CO2 from our business activities.

Hi, I’m Jane Barrett, co-founder of The Career Farm and co-author of “Taking charge of your career”. I started my career in in-house recruitment (recruiting MBAs for PricewaterhouseCoopers) and retained search consultancy for blue-chip clients, private companies and start-ups across a variety of sectors including Finance, IT and FMCG. As a recruiter it was clear to me that many well-qualified MBA and Masters candidates were poorly prepared for the interview process, and were unable to explain what they wanted and what they had to offer. This lack of preparation meant that good candidates were failing to get offers. We founded The Career Farm to support the careers teams at Business Schools across the UK and Europe, using our 3-step “GPS” process to help students get better jobs on graduation. Over the years we’ve worked with thousands of students, originally in face-to-face workshops and more recently through our online courses.
