I live on the edge of the Cambridgeshire Fens for many years, right between the flat fenlands to the east and the first gently rolling hills to the west. It’s a fascinating place, immensely rich in history and with many nationally important nature reserves. Kathryn Parsons My work flows from my love of nature, small details and place combined with a life-long delight in exploring craft techniques. It’s an adventure driven by curiosity and a desire to seek out and share some of the fascinating stories of this amazing planet and the people who’ve lived here… because stories help us connect with places and each other, which is good for humans! And feeling connected also means we’re more likely to cherish and protect biodiversity and heritage. My deep grief for the damage that the natural world is sustaining adds drive and reason. Found in the Fields, detail As I spend time getting to know a place, delving in to archives and talking with people who know it best, I search for stories that capture my attention and which I think will fascinate others too. I intentionally allow space for discoveries to guide the final outcomes, and select materials and techniques that best tell the story. Sharing the research and exploration via social media draws others in to the adventure, and so the stories gently ripple out… the land is "re-storied" and people's connections with place and nature are strengthened and enriched. Kathryn Parsons Handcrafts and simple tools are at the heart of my work. I've always loved exploring what I can make different materials and processes do, right from a very young age. To me it's an exciting, fascinating adventure! And so I use a wide variety of processes and materials, depending on what best communicates the story... from eco-printed poems and sugar shoes to photography and mixed media sculptures. To reduce the environmental impact of my work I often use old or natural objects. And in very small quantities I use porcelain too, because for me it speaks deeply of the beauty, fragility and strength of the natural world. Much of my work is created to be displayed as temporary interventions in the place that it speaks about... adding richness and something new to see, while offering new ways for visitors to respond and engage. Kathryn Parsons My first career was in teaching, in primary, further and adult education - including teaching sugarcraft and competing in international sugarcraft competitions! Gradually I learned to listen to my heart, and follow its desire to use my creativity and love of learning to share fascinating stories of nature and place. I delight in nurturing the creativity of others and sharing my adventures through writing, workshops, demonstrations and talks. In 2022, I launched NatureCraft online mini workshops - a space to connect with nature, creativity and other nature-loving people from across the globe. Exhibitions, Residencies and Site-Specific Artworks I have exhibited at The National Centre for Craft & Design (solo and group exhibition), and created site-specific artworks for Burghley House, University of Leicester, John Clare Trust, Derby Museum’s porcelain gallery and on nature reserves. In 2012 one of my artworks was selected for “Inspired by…” exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. See C.V. for more details. Currently I am Artist in Residence with Langdyke Countryside Trust, a wildlife conservation and heritage charity. I tell the stories of local volunteers and the places, wildlife and heritage that they work to protect. “Every day’s a school day!” I believe this, not just because I have a background in teaching but because life has taught me this through experiences outside the classroom not just in it. My great passions are music, culture and learning. I have travelled extensively and have seen firsthand that regardless of personal story or background we are all incredibly unique and that means there is place in this world that only we as individuals can fill. My favourite things to do include playing the piano, beach or mountain walks, city breaks or a good book or movie. I love stories especially epic ones like Lord of the Rings or The Chronicles of Narnia and have learnt that in truth we all long to see ourselves in a larger story where good triumphs over evil and the hero wins the day. To achieve this requires companionship and trustworthy allies, and for me this defines my goal in partnering with others as their life-coach. My role in life (apart from husband and father) is that of encourager; to walk alongside those who are struggling, or lost, or lonely and help them re-discover or perhaps discover for the first time their worth and value. I am patient and kind and naturally pastoral always regarding people as the priority over processes or profit.

This can be with food, praise or their favourite toy depending on the dog. We do need to add corrections when training to help our dogs understand what we are looking for from them. These do NOT have to inflict pain or fear and none of the methods I use will ever hurt or scare a dog! My training methods are about building trust with your dog and strengthening the bond and relationship you have. I use ways which will motivate the dog and have been found to have better long term benefits for both you and him I train my own dogs the same way I will train yours. And I'd very much like to say I am proud of my dogs as a whole and the amazing bond we share

Over the last 15 years working in the family justice sector, I have seen how amazing senior leads come under intense scrutiny when they are working alongside children’s social care. As a child protection lawyer, and latterly a trainer, I work to empower professionals so you spend less time worrying about that Child Protection Conference or Strategy Meeting. I founded the Safeguarding Association after working with so many professionals who were amazing at what they did but felt unsure about their role within the various child protection procedures and court processes. Their lack of knowledge was impacting their confidence when giving their opinions in meetings or at court. After working with lots of senior safeguarding leads like you, I realised that what they all needed was the same thing – understanding how to navigate the maze which is the child protection process and court system. The maze of processes is talked about in all safeguarding training. But knowing about it and working effectively within it are very different issues. I love sharing my experience and knowledge and there’s nothing more satisfying than knowing I have been able to remove some of that mystery so as to allow you to feel confident and empowered to fully protect those young people you work with. You should feel confident in your internal safeguarding processes, and how the systems works so you can be secure in your handling of complex child protection cases. We all need some downtime, when I’m not working, I spend mine with my husband and our golden retriever, Sam.

Way back in 2002 I took my first breath underwater using scuba equipment. I absolutely loved it! A couple of years later I was in the car with my mum when we went past a sign that said 'Learn to scuba dive today!' We had booked the experience before we got home! A couple of months later I was given a voucher for the PADI Open Water Diver course. We travelled up to Stoney Cove in November 2004 for what I mainly remember as a very cold experience. I was soon a qualified Junior PADI Open Water Diver! I eventually signed up for my DiveMaster course in 2011 - the first professional level when you begin taking responsibility for other divers' training! I loved helping with courses and seeing the sense of achievement on peoples' faces - I could really relate to it - however, I was soon convinced to sign up for my instructor course. I've been a PADI Course Director since 2018 and have had the pleasure of teaching candidates from all walks of life and being just a small part of their journey to what might become a full-time career. I love teaching the professional courses but feel just as comfortable teaching a DSD or Seal Team Course (I am still a child at heart!) If you join an IDC with me, you'll benefit from tailored scheduling to suit your availability and a CD who uses the latest and most up to date tools from PADI to teach you. I am passionate about being inclusive and believe that 'one size definitely does not fit all'. I've had the privilege of instructing in quite a few places around the world, teaching in Egypt, Spain, Kenya, and various countries in the Caribbean. My name is Joe Turnbull and I have been angling since I was about 13. I first found out about such an amazing beautiful pastime when my uncle took me to the local river, armed with a small box of maggots and little bag of brown bread crumb to use as ground bait. After that first encounter catching some good roach, I was simply hooked and I had found something that I was quite good at. From that first experience I went on to enter a few matches, however, I’ve never really been competitive, so from there on I generally enjoyed my pleasure fishing for all species, which has seen me venturing all around the country angling at many different venues. After some years of allround specimen angling, my one true love fell for carp angling, along with the wonder and amazement that it holds. fishing-tv Why Bait?…Archie Braddock’s supplied a mix of herbs and spices, along with Richworth and Rod Hutchinson that had a range of ‘off the shelf’ boilies and flavourings. I was intrigued, as many people still are, by being able to mix all sorts of concoctions and seeing if I could get a fish to feed on it. After years of playing with baits and ingredients, a part of a life long dream became a reality as I was given a monthly feature in the biggest and longest running carp magazine, Carpworld and sister magazine, Crafty Carper. Successful angling is all about consistency. If you get good at that, you're more than half way there. carp-tuition Why carp angling tuition?…Over the last couple of years or so I’ve been asked on many occasions about supplying some kind of tuition service for carp angling but not really being the type to ‘blow my own trumpet’ so to speak-I declined the idea for a while but then imagined that it would actually be really nice to pass on my experience and knowledge that I’ve gained over the years.
