Having run my own lorry for Hire & Reward including continental for a while I have been where you are going to be…. In the real world. I've run my own lorry based buisness for a number of years and moved into Driver Training in 1985 when two people who worked for me needed a C+E licence (HGV class 1) and just could not find a t...raining provider who offered the right training at a realistic price. I trained up both of them successfully and the rest as they say is history. In 1985 I attended the RTITB (The only recognised body to Road Transport) and also did the re registration courses as and when they were due. Since then the DSA have started their voluntary registration which I joined when launched. In January 2008 I re-sat & again passed the LGV Instructors course for the third time running including the new Theory Test and the Hazard Perception. So I know from personal experience what you will be expected to do. I'm one of only a handful of instructors in the area who are fully qualified. Not many people realise that, unlike Car instructors, HGV trainers do not have to be qualified to teach you. In over 20 years of training I have built up a firm customer base with many companies having been with me since 1985. There are two agencies who take newly qualified lorry drivers from me on a regular basis. I believe that during training it is important to be on the road as much as possible. I don’t have any Classrooms or spend time in Cafés or parked in Lay-By’s. All my training is in the Cab, the majority of the time with the wheels moving and you at the controls. After all that’s what you are paying for!

Formed in 1986 and a family owned and operated business, L&T Transport Training provides instruction for anyone looking for LGV or PCV training to drive vehicles from C1 to CE and D1 to D in Yorkshire, including Pontefract, Castleford, Wakefield, Leeds, Doncaster and Knottingley to name a few. We also train drivers in the transportation of dangerous goods (ADR), the operation of Lorry Loaders (HIAB) and we are a JAUPT Approved Centre for Driver CPC Periodic Training. In March 2012 we were very proud to become the first Customer Site for Lorry and Bus tests in the region. This means that all trainees now train and test with us at our Fitzwilliam Training and Test Centre. In November 2021, the UK Government announced changes to the legislation which has had a massive impact on our industry. One of the biggest changes is the reversing part of the test. This is now conducted by our own reversing assessors. Our on site, private reversing area is where you will learn to reverse your vehicle efficiently and take your test. The on-road driving test is carried out by DVSA Driving Examiners who are based at our site. You can also benefit from learning in our HGV Training and Conference facility, ‘The Eber Suite, where we can accommodate up to 20 candidates seated at desks and our computer suite with eight individual workstations. Initially training as an electrical engineer, Anthony moved into domestic appliance repairs as a white goods field service engineer for Comet, working on cutting edge technology such as halogen, microwave and induction cookers. Following this, Anthony joined the Gerard Gamble Group and became a technical manager, trouble-shooting obscure faults and taking responsibility for training engineers nationwide for their gas qualifications and specialised equipment repairs. In particular, he worked with Garland, Frymaster and Houno products, as well as pressure boilers and ware-washing equipment. Anthony also assisted in developing containerised kitchens, where complete commercial kitchens were fitted into modified sea containers capable of being transported by lorry, providing temporary cooking facilities.
