I am passionate about resilience and helping people understand how important resilience is in our lives. I studied with some of the leading international experts working to promote resilience. For the last 5 years I have been actively promoting resilience with individuals, families, organisations and communities. I had spent many years working in the field of positive psychology and therapy and it was here in Barcelona that I discovered the world of resilience and was lucky enough to attend the first post graduate course in the Promotion of Resilience at the University of Barcelona. This allowed me to meet and learn from leading figures in Resilience work in Europe and Latin America and the most generous teachers. I also studied a postgraduate diploma in mental health and migration. Moving around can bring opportunity but also challenges. I have lived in many countries and met a lot of diverse and truly inspiring people in different cultures and languages. Living an international life can feel like an amazing adventure but also comes with its challenges and I have worked with many individuals and families over the years helping them to find their feet again. Life experience, literature, music and films have always fed my resilience work but I have been studying and researching along the way to back up my instincts with analysis and ideas based on theory and practice. We are Ed and Amelia. After many years in Oxford, first studying (both of us), then working in archaeology labs (Ed), and running a fun and fabulous pop-up cookery school with the equally fun and fabulous Sophie Grigson (Amelia), we decided the time had come for a new adventure. So here we are. For Ed, it is more of a return to his roots, having grown up on a farm near Kirkby Lonsdale. For me (well, it is Amelia’s kitchen – I think you might guess that it is Amelia who does the social media!), it is a chance to put down some new roots, and thus far, I love it. So who are we? Ed is a chemist by academic background, a farmer by family background, and a curious mind and problem solver by nature. He now works for B4RN, mapping the route for super-fast broadband for the rural North. My history lies in the food, wine, and literature of Italy (specifically Renaissance five-act comedy and the food of Garfagnana, where I also make wine!). My formal food training was a Cordon Bleu diploma at Tante Marie, followed by a couple of years of restaurant work. To complement my food training (and because, let’s face it, I’m a learning addict) I also completed my WSET wine diploma. The highlight of the course was winning a prize for one exam, which involved being taken to Vinitaly in Verona by the lovely people at Liberty Wine. I was already hooked on Italian wine, but that just reinforced the habit!

I was born in the 1960s in Somerset, UK the eldest of two daughters of Heather and Nick Bune. My mum was a housewife and dad a welder after starting an early career as a coal miner. The coal mining industry ran in the blood of my family as both grandfathers and all of my great grandfathers were coal miners. I grew up in a happy, loving home where money was always tight. There were no daytrips, no foreign holidays for me – in fact we didn’t have a telephone until I was a teenager and we didn’t have a car until I’d left home. At school I was one of those children who sits in the middle, grey and unnoticed, yet plodding on. I got seven O levels and a qualification in touch typing –my careers ‘adviser’ told me I should am to be a secretary or a nurse. Not a chance! However, I didn’t do as well in my A levels as expected and ended up going to a more ‘lowly’ college of higher education, now Bath Spa University. I took a degree in English Literature & History and loved it. I did well in my degree, getting a high 2:1 and took a PGCE and trained to be a teacher though quickly realised this was not for me. I always wanted to be a journalist – I used that year to apply for any relevant job. I eventually got a traineeship on a local newspaper in Somerset, then two years later moved on to a daily newspaper in Swindon, where I went on to be crime reporter and then business editor. I was also running as a volunteer a radio programme for Hospital Radio Swindon.

It is with the aim of ensuring both Elgar’s compositions and classical music in general do not lose their place in today’s world of music. Elgar is considered to be England’s greatest composer of his generation, if not of all time. His numerous works have been played through the decades at some of the most prestigious concert halls both in the United Kingdom and abroad. His continuing worldwide recognition as a composer of note is important not only to England but to the classical music world at large. We aim to encourage the continuing enjoyment of his music, both for musicians and for audiences alike. We encourage classical music enthusiasts of all ages to explore the works of the great composer and learn more about the interesting life Elgar lived, for he was not only a great composer but very competent as a musician and conductor, as well as a lover of literature. The man, his life, and his music must live on.
