Gawthorpe Textiles Collection (GTC) is the operating name of independent museum and registered charity The Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth Textile Collections. Since its establishment in 1959, the charity has existed to deliver its powerful founding vision focused on education, public access to the collection for all and the promotion of wellbeing. The aims and purposes of the charity have never been more relevant as the country faces the challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic. GTC operates from the Gawthorpe Hall estate in Padiham, Lancashire; family home to founder Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth MBE (1886- 1967), a life long collector of global textile and craft items. Rachel was a prolific lace maker and embroiderer. She was also a philanthropist who devoted her life to actively improving the social welfare of the communities on her doorstep. The charity’s long term ambition is to work in partnership to realise Rachel's vision of creating a craft house, a centre of excellence for learning in textiles. As the only dedicated textile collection of its size and variety in Lancashire, the collection which stands at over 30,000 pieces of global provenance, is a truly remarkable resource. It is one of the most diverse, interesting and encyclopaedic textile collections in the UK and is known to specialists worldwide. In a digital age which is seeing a strong resurgence in the value of hand crafts, GTC champions traditional craft skills, celebrates creativity and delivers programmes of activity which have profound and positive life changing effects on individuals’ mental wellbeing and life skills, promoting a sense of community - all through participation in craft. Key activities undertaken by the charity fall into two strands; management and care of the collection including research, documentation, acquisition, interpretation and conservation. Secondly, sharing the collection with the public; catering to a broad range of ages, cultural backgrounds and skill levels. This includes delivering historic and contemporary exhibitions, artist collaborations, workshops, talks, tours, research and study visits, as well as outreach in the local community through Valley Street Textiles Studio (a joint initiative with Calico Homes).

Our Cook Stars team is passionate about cooking and we simply LOVE good food! We share our love of cooking through teaching children and teenagers how to create their very own dishes from scratch. We offer classes for pre-school children, primary school age children, tweens and teens delivered through our team of franchisees. We also host special event workshops, birthday parties and classes within schools and the community. At Cook Stars we take care of all the preparation to make it easy for our Cook Stars to simply come along and enjoy our sessions. All ingredients, cooking equipment, an apron, packaging and cooking know-how is provided! Everyone takes home their lovely dish along with a recipe card to cook again at home. We even see to the clearing away and washing up! Here at Cook Stars we want our classes to be accessible to everyone, so our classes are affordable and offer fantastic value. As well as providing everything you'll need to cook we also treat children to a craft activity and a snack to keep them entertained during cooking time. At our sessions, there's lots of opportunity to experiment with different preparation methods....weighing, measuring, shape cutting, decorating, rolling and much more! We learn about different ingredients, try new foods and develop useful life skills. Cook Stars believe the secret to pleasurable learning is though 'play' so our classes are friendly, relaxed and fun. I have been working with autistic children and teenagers for 20 years. I started my teaching career in Further Education, and have worked in the Supported Learning Department of 2 large Mainstream Colleges teaching Numeracy, Literacy, Life Skills, and Childcare. I also worked as the Life Skills Coordinator at a residential college for young people with severe physical disabilities. My passion has always been working with autistic young people - I believe that they have so much to offer, and yet the education system often fails them because staff do not have the right skills and experience. This is something I am passionate about changing! I am an experienced trainer and really enjoy training others. I have a degree in Psychology, a Post Graduate Certificate in Special Education (Autism) a PCGE in Life Long Learning and hold NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship). I am also a Surrey Autism Champion and have a NOCN Level 3 Certificate in Working with Students with ADHD and a Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I am also trained to use 3Di diagnostic programming which enables me to carry out assessments for possible ASC and ADHD. Laura is an advisor to PDA North America and provides support, advice and training to families all over the world. Laura is also the founder of Healthy Happy Me! providing support to children to help them maintain happy bodies and healthy minds.

Derby City Boxing Academy was founded in February 2009 by Midlands A.B.A. coach Alex Neave. The club itself is in a prime location for the younger society with its main aim being to promote boxing and provide a facility for those whom participate, helping them become responsible citizens and respecting their local community. Our goal is to provide fair guidance and support to all, regardless of race, disability or gender. The club is affiliated to the Amateur Boxing Association of England (A.B.A.), which has set guidelines that all club members must follow. Amateur boxing is recognised worldwide as a contact sport, teaching the techniques and skills required to become an Amateur boxer under qualified instruction and supervision. Having inherited the desire to engage in combat from the beginning of man-kind, boxing enables individuals to release built up aggression, and provides a release from the every-day stresses life brings Derby City Boxing Academy prides itself on the environment it operates which is based on camaraderie and encouragement between all members. Our first priority is the well-being of our boxers and their development as individuals. Our members come from many different cultural backgrounds, both male and female and the club aims to build self-esteem, confidence, improved communication skills, respect, self-discipline and life skills.

The Pyjama Foundation was founded in 2004 to give children in foster care the opportunity to change the direction of their lives with learning, life skills, and confidence. Alarmed at the statistics highlighting poor literacy and numeracy levels of children in care, and how this contributes to a lifetime of disadvantage, founder Bronwyn Sheehan made a decision – a decision to offer hope and a more positive outlook for these children. Through a simple program known as the Love of Learning Program, volunteers called Pyjama Angels are matched with a child in care, and spend just one hour a week focusing on learning based activities. Pyjama Angels read books aloud, play educational games, and help children with their homework. In that time, they demonstrate that this child is valued and loved.
