About Heath House Preparatory School Established in 1993, Heath House is a co-educational independent preparatory school for children aged between three and eleven. Heath House is a small, private and friendly school where children are happy to learn in a stimulating environment. The school has a strong child-centred approach with an environment designed to encourage every child, of all ages and abilities, to achieve their maximum potential. Set in the heart of Blackheath Village, SE3, the school has three annexes to its main building in Wemyss Road - Tranquil Hall, the original village school building (1851), The Old Library in Blackheath Grove and further afield, 'Aux Mottaux' in Villars, Switzerland. Our school day is busy where children feel a sense of excitement and achievement – a fast structured pace giving a sense of urgency in their quest for excellence. The school timetable encourages children to work hard in the mornings and then after lunch, children are very active and take part in sporting and creative activities. Trips, educational visits and workshops are wide-ranging and packed into an activity-filled academic year. The school also has a busy and diverse Extra-Curricular programme, with daily Extra-Curricular Clubs and a variety of residential trips for Heath House pupils. It has always held a fascination for me and exploring the history, techniques and examples of embroidery from around the world has been a joy as I have learned more and more about this extraordinary craft. As well as Day Classes, the Certificate and Diploma, Summer Intensive Certificate and the Degree modules at Hampton Court Palace, I have taught at the Victoria and Albert Museum, The British Library and The Royal Free Hospital. Currently I have a studio at Lancaster Castle though I spend a lot of my time teaching and embroidering elsewhere. I run workshops and teach classes for the RSN, at Hampton Court and in Lancaster. Recently I've taught at The Brewery Arts in Kendal; Swallows and Artisans, Coniston; Farfield Mill Sedbergh; and Cumbria's Museum of Military Life in Carlisle to name a few. I also run Embroidery Groups in Kendal and Lancaster. Alongside that I continue to exhibit, recently I've curated exhibitions at Farfield Mill, at Cumbria's Museum of Military Life in Carlisle, and Lancaster Castle. And I found time to do online courses for the RSN and for the School of Stitched Textile, host a holiday for Colouricious and talks for embroidery groups. During Covid I've also taught and tutored online. When I'm not busy with all this I love undertaking renovations, and have done work ranging from samplers to a Shabraque for the Parachute Regiment's pony. This versatility came in handy working as an expert with the BBC One Programme The Repair Shop. It's busy but great fun.

St Benedict's is a comprehensive secondary school of about 740 boys and girls aged from 11 to 18 years. Where we started EBUKI started with a meeting, in 2007, of people and organisations interested in increasing and normalising earth in construction. To make earth building normal requires more research, more teaching and training, more standards, more assessment, more information, more networking, more built examples, more experienced professionals, in other words more of lots of different activities! So, we agreed that an organisation, which fostered the use of earth as a building material in all its forms was essential. We have had a great deal of success and continue to grow our organisation from strength to strength. The Anglo-Iraqi Studies Centre (AISC) is an academic and community project based in London. AISC aims to be a point of contact in London for all knowledge about Anglo-Iraqi studies. The centre is dedicated to gathering, presenting and reviewing all material written in English about Iraq in the last two centuries (1800 – 2000) and aims to bring together Iraqi and British communities through the mediums of cultural events, knowledge presentations, outreach visits, studies, workshops and sessions with academic professionals from Iraq and the UK. The centre aims to play a key role with academic and public figures in the UK to enhance public knowledge and understanding of Iraq, Anglo-Iraqi studies, Iraqi-British connections, assisting the Iraqi-British community to rediscover their identities thus enabling further positive integration of Iraqis into British life. This website contains further information about the AISC, a list of selected books published in English about Iraq, the full text of a selection of English language books about Iraq, a photographic archive related to Iraq, a list of publications by AISC’s staff and volunteers and video links to events by AISC staff. The centre contains a library with more than 1,000 books and periodicals published in English about Iraq and aims to collect as many English language publications on Iraq as possible. These will be presented to the public and also made available online. Through the mediums of cultural events, knowledge presentations, workshops, studies and outreach visits the centre aims to enhance the education of the public and British/Iraqi communities and assist Iraqi-British citizens’ further positive integration into UK life.

Matravers School is a large, traditional 11-18 school pleasantly situated in the centre of the market town of Westbury. We occupy a very large, spacious 13-acre site. The school buildings are of mixed age, blending traditional with more modern buildings. Recently the school has benefited from state-of-the-art additions including: an £8.5million STEM (Science, maths, technology) Centre in 2019; a £1.5million upgrade to our English and Humanities block in 2020; a new Dance and Music block added in 2000; a Sports Hall and Dining Hall added in 2004; a Drama block added in 2008; and a new Sixth Form block added in 2012. Technology plays a central part in our school and we benefit from a range of technology and teaching facilities throughout the school. On-site facilities include specialist accommodation for Technology, Art and Ceramics and Photography. There is one large gymnasium for Physical Education alongside a new Sports Centre and a purpose-built fitness suite. The Sports Centre is also used by the community in the evenings. There are a separate Music and Drama building with specialised Dance Studios and Music Performance and Practice rooms. Specialised Science laboratories enable the School to offer a full programme in Science to every student. Our brand new Sixth Form building opened in 2012 to accommodate our Sixth Form offering an exciting and modern learning environment. Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School was founded in 1701 in accordance with the last will and testament of Sir Joseph Williamson, who bequeathed five thousand pounds “towards the building and carrying on and perpetual maintaining of a free school at Rochester for the instructing and educating of such youth there who were or should be the sons of freemen these towards the Mathematics and all other things which fit and encourage them for the sea service and arts and callings leading and relating thereto”. Sir Joseph Williamson served as a leading politician and diplomat during the reign of King Charles II. He was first elected as MP for Rochester in 1690 and held various offices (including Secretary of State aged 41) until his retirement in 1699 when he settled to live at Cobham Hall. At one time he was President of the Royal Society, Keeper of the King’s Library at Whitehall and Editor of the Oxford Gazette. He receives mention in the diaries of Samuel Pepys. Williamson’s life and work is not without controversy. He was an investor and administrator in the Royal African Company, a trading company set up in 1660 and led by the Duke of York (future King James II). This company held the monopoly of the English slave trade from Africa to the West Indies. Professor William Pettigrew from Lancaster University, in his book ‘Freedom’s Debt: The Royal African Company and the Politics of the Atlantic Slave Trade, 1672-1752’ (2016) writes that the Company ‘shipped more enslaved African women, men and children to the Americas than any other single institution during the entire period of the transatlantic slave trade’.
