We envision a world in which children with developmental disabilities are fully able to access the health and education services they need to achieve their full potential. Mission To change the lives of some of the world’s poorest people living with developmental disabilities, and the lives of their families, by improving access to and better quality of healthcare and education services and support. Aims The aim of MAITS is to improve the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable individuals living with disabilities by helping them to reach their full potential, be healthy and have an improved sense of well-being, through access to family support, quality healthcare and education. We do this through a team of trainers from all over the world, who are experienced professionals, and who give their time to provide capacity building, training and resources to those caring for and providing health and education services to individuals with disabilities in community or institutional settings. Our team We do this through a very small staff team, training consultants and a team of qualified volunteers from all over the world, who are experienced healthcare and education professionals. Our volunteers provide training and support to those caring for and providing health and education services to individuals with disabilities in community or institutional settings. We also have a small grants programme which enables training to take place in any location where there is a need globally. The aim is to enable individuals to reach their full potential, with improved health, well-being and quality of life through access to family support, quality healthcare and education. Overview We work with and help some of the most marginalised people globally –those with disabilities living in some of the poorest countries in the world. There are 150 million children living with a disability and of these the majority live in developing countries. Since 2011, we have provided training to 4675 staff working in the disability sector in 21 countries and helped over 600,000 individuals living with disabilities. The people we have trained include therapists, nurses, special educators, staff working in children’s homes and community health workers. Part of our work involves providing training at the grass roots level, to community health workers and care staff, on conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism and learning disabilities to enable early identification, referral to specialists where possible and the provision of home support to promote development and independence, using training packages and tools we have developed specifically. Some of our training can be life-saving, especially in the case of infants and children with feeding difficulties, which often leads to malnutrition, severe respiratory problems and early mortality. With the right training, these consequences can be dramatically reduced, improving the child’s quality of life and their life expectancy. MAITS’ specialists have developed and delivered training and resources for healthcare staff to address this issue, both in children and infants, the latter at the request of medical colleagues working on measures to prevent infant mortality. Our training also provides other innovative solutions to improving the lives of those with disabilities.

We are now working towards opening the site in the next year. WHY IS THE EAST END WOMEN’S MUSEUM SO VITAL? The Museum exists because for far too long women have been confined to the margins of history. For instance: Just 2.7% of UK public statues feature historical women who weren't royalty (source). There is just one statue of a named black woman in the entire country (source). Just 13% of English Heritage blue plaques in London honour women (source). According to an English Heritage survey, 40% of people thought that women had less of an impact on history than men (source). “ The East End Women’s Museum is part of the solution, and a matter of representation. We want to rebalance the history books, and put women back in the picture. East London women’s lives are full of amazing stories; stories of pride, of creativity, of humour, resilience, resourcefulness and resistance – from the Bow Matchwomen’s Strike to the Battle of Cable Street, the Ford Dagenham machinists’ walkout to the Bengali families squatting to improve housing in Spitalfields. We have footballers, inventors, carers, pilots, generals, pirates and more. We believe these lives can be inspirational to women and girls today. GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE East End Women’s Museum started out as a Community Interest Company (CIC), registered in November 2016. After a period of development and fundraising, we decided to register as a charity so we could raise the funds we need to open the museum, a natural and necessary next step for us. In late 2019 several of the directors of the East End Women’s Museum CIC became trustees of a new Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). After creating a new constitution, in March 2020 the new East End Women’s Museum CIO was admitted onto the register of charities overseen by the Charity Commission. The CIC and the CIO are separate organisations, but have the same name and are working toward similar goals. At the moment the two organisations run alongside one another, but over the coming months the original CIC will wind down its activities, and the charity will take on responsibility for delivering all of East End Women’s Museum programmes and activities.

It’s time to show up, step up and build a brand that you are passionate about. - THE DIGITAL BRAND BOSS Fast forward a few years later, I took on the volunteer role of team lead for the media and production department of a charity (my local church) of about 200 members. It was then that my desire to build brands for a living grew and took root. This drive led me to get certified as a brand strategist and coach. The more I learned, the more I realised the power of strategic branding in bringing clarity, direction and growth to businesses. As someone who has always experienced the world through creating, I started my first business during my first year at university on a part-time basis, in 2012. So, believe me when I tell you I understand what starting a business from scratch requires. Some of the businesses I launched during this period included a catering business, a clothing line and a luxury design card company. Like most business owners who are just starting out, I wasn’t sure how to build my brand and grow my business. Instead, I was focused on having pretty colours, a logo and a social media page, which from experience I learnt are not adequate in getting you the required results from your business. It was only after I started really diving into learning how to successfully build a solid and sustainable brand, that I started seeing real results. Hello and welcome – thanks for dropping in. My name is Adrian Lloyd although those that know me well find that Ade is what I answer to best. I am a full-time designer, maker and teacher and am passionate about traditional handcrafts. I live and work in North West Cumbria in a tiny farming hamlet nestled mid-way between the northernmost edge of the Lake District National Park and the Solway Coast. Most of my making and teaching takes place in an original threshing barn, one of several historic outbuildings, which, along with our 300-year-old farmhouse, surround a cobbled courtyard. I specialise in creating beautiful, functional, traditional hand-crafted items from green wood (that is wood that looks like a freshly felled tree and still contains all of its moisture) using traditional methods and razor-sharp hand tools like axes and knives. My craft is for everyday use in the kitchen and around the home, it is designed to be used hard and for a long time, hopefully by generations of the same family. I developed my passion for handcraft from a very young age and thrive when being able to ignite a new passion for creativity in others. After a design-based university education, I then spent nearly the next twenty years teaching children and adults in both formal and informal education settings, indoors and out. However, I then took the decision to pursue craft on a full-time basis and now earn my living from all things Slöjd! I have been carving on and off for the best part of probably thirty years and have added turning, furniture making, basket weaving and anything else green wood along the way. I also do some blacksmithing, bladesmithing and tool making and make all of my own bowl turning tools. I can normally be found somewhere along or between the length and breadth of this great island teaching some aspect of this wonderful craft we call greenwood, or holed up bothering some wood in my farmhouse workshop in Cumbria. I try to use only locally sourced British hardwoods in my craft that are harvested from either wind-blown trees or from sustainably managed woodland as part of a natural thinning and woodland regeneration process. I have favourite woods for specific purposes but will generally use any wood that is suitable for the function and form of the piece being worked on. I have a real interest in the way our relationships with the natural environment develop and have studied for qualifications in bushcraft leadership, practical ethnobotany and plant identification, wildlife identification and tracking and woodland management, including the identification and management of veteran trees. I draw on this knowledge and experience to ensure my teaching provides rich, holistic and rewarding learning opportunities. I’ve always been fascinated by people. In fact, I love people and the fact that we are all so different. And I love conversation. We live in a world which is ever-changing. We have to adapt and some of us find that easier than others. And I'm no exception to that. I’ve spent a good deal of my life finding out what makes people tick, and I didn’t even realise it was happening. And that’s how I came to discover my passion – helping people to change the way they see themselves and the world around them. To learn to love themselves again. To believe in themselves. To overcome stress or emotional pain, whatever the cause. And to begin enjoy life again. Just as I have. My own experiences and extensive training have helped me grow, and I know I will never stop growing and evolving. I still study, attend workshops and training to enhance my knowledge and skills. Although, of course, certificates are no indication of anyone's life experience, wisdom or compassion. When I'm not studying, I love travelling and have had many wonderful experiences. I love anything to do with the theatre, music and dance. I grew up in a theatrical world. I played clarinet, performed on stage from a very young age and have directed musicals. Now, I just love to watch. What's next? Watch this space! MY STORY We all have a story, whether it’s just a few chapters or an enormous long novel. I have my story too, and I’ve used it to change my life and completely turn it around. I'd been interested in spirituality and the mind-body connection for as long as I can remember, and a huge life change gave me opportunity to re-examine the way I lived my life. I really believe that we can change our lives by changing the way we see ourselves and what’s happening around us – our thoughts create our reality. If we let go of negative patterns and limiting beliefs, we can change our thoughts and change our lives. After living through and learning from the many challenges in my own life, I recognised the potential for helping others to embrace positive change into their lives as well. I still apply my training in my own life. Recovering from abuse, self-loathing, failed relationships, lack of confidence and many other things that troubled my past has changed my life completely, just as it can change yours. It doesn’t change what’s happened, you can’t change the past, but you can enjoy your life now and create a better future. I know from personal experience how powerful this can be. I can help you to see what’s holding you back, offering you support and guidance as you go forward and take control of your life. I can’t do the work for you, but I will support you all the way, for as long as you need. Wouldn’t that be great? Loving the life you live and living a life you love? I do, and so can you!
