Nottingham

I am delighted to introduce you to the Nottingham Girls’ Academy website. At Nottingham Girls’ Academy, we strive to fulfil everyone’s learning potential within a kind, nurturing and inclusive environment. We value high standards, hard work and a ceaseless desire to improve. But, most importantly, we enjoy the journey together. Research shows that a single sex environment empowers girls to realise their potential. We foster a caring, supportive and happy environment which encourages our girls to flourish. In terms of behaviour, uniform and Academy standards we are very traditional and have high expectations. We expect pupils to wear the full Academy uniform correctly, attend well, behave respectfully to others and to work hard. We also believe that education is more than just academic success and aim to develop the whole person. Our curriculum nurtures the development of qualities and skills alongside the acquisition of knowledge. It is broad and balanced, develops ‘cultural capital’ with enrichment activities and is complimented by a wide range of extra-curricular activities and events, which we encourage all girls to take part in. I regard being the Principal of Nottingham Girls’ Academy as a personal and professional privilege and, along with my staff, I am committed to ensuring the future for our students is bright and full of promise. I hope you find our website interesting and informative. If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact us or arrange a visit. I look forward to welcoming you to Nottingham Girls’ Academy.

Past delegates have greatly appreciated her corporate background in assisting them with the Consultation process within smaller clinics. At Allestree Woodlands, we pride ourselves on the warm and friendly atmosphere of the school. Relationships are important and we work to ensure that every student feels safe and happy. We strive for the best achievements for our students and believe that every young person deserves the chance to feel successful at school. Our school aims are summed up in our mission statement: Enabling aspiration and achievement for all, through delivery of a knowledge-rich curriculum underpinned by our CORE values: COURAGE OPTIMISM REGARD ENDEAVOUR This means that staff at Allestree Woodlands continue to review and improve our curriculum to ensure that knowledge acquisition is clear, coherent and that year on year learning builds on what has gone before so that students feel that they are moving forward and knowing more. As I have said to our students, this acquisition of knowledge gives power and confidence to believe in ourselves and put ourselves in new, unfamiliar, challenging and exciting situations in the future. We seek to equip all of our students to use their knowledge to plan for and achieve their next steps and to be aspirational for their futures. To do this, we must both support and challenge all young people to aspire, to dream of what might lie ahead and to work hard to make those ambitious goals possible. Why settle for less than our very best? When aspiration and hard work are combined, people achieve amazing things. We are lucky to be a thriving school with a growing intake, a wide level 3 subject offer at post-16, superb extra-curricular opportunities in sports, technology and the creative and performing arts as well as possessing tremendous facilities. If you would like to know more, take a look at our website or arrange a visit. We have open evenings planned for this half-term for prospective students and their parents and you are most welcome to come along and get a feel for what Allestree Woodlands is all about.

The One School of Dance

the one school of dance

Chellaston

Being a former dancer, classical dancer, it informed me as a human being just in terms of the grace I guess. Ballet is a very graceful form of art. You also become very aware of your body and your mind and your body is working in conjunction. That kind of helps you in acting as well. It is not only using your mind, it is like making your own mind communicate this character into your body so that you can bring it to life and physicalize it. Cara began dancing at a very young age taking part in ballet, tap, modern jazz, street dance, lyrical and musical theatre lessons throughout all of her childhood. She went on to study Sport at college alongside doing her teacher training within dance. Cara then went on to study musical theatre and dance at a full time professional college, alongside teaching dance at the weekend. After having to pull out of college with a serious injury she decided being a professional performer wasn’t for her as she LOVED every second of teaching, so focussed all of her time on gaining 10 teaching qualifications within the IDTA. Alongside teaching for nearly half of her life, Cara has also taken part in many amateur dramatic companies performing in musicals, worked for professional dance companies in shows and events and completed many training courses including physical literacy, nutrition, Zumba, exercise to music, and smoking cessation. She has a background of working with families and children in helping them live a healthier lifestyle as part of a Derby County Community Trust program and continues to work with DCCT delivering sessions for different programs they run. 14 years of teaching dance has given Cara lots of experience in working with a wide variety of children, including those with behavioural and learning difficulties. She has worked in many primary and secondary schools across Derby and Nottingham and continues to do so with pride. A fact about Cara: Alongside running The One School of Dance, she is a mummy to two small children (so please be patient with her).
