Concept is a newly-formed, independent group, not beholden to any larger concern. The leaders of the group are themselves deeply involved in private education and owe their livelihood to it. The group was born out of the conviction that private education is a force for good, but that, as in everything, there is room for improvement. How will that improvement happen? Primarily by listening. By listening - to why parents spend money on education for their children. What do they really want out of it - certainly not a mediocre result. By listening - to what the pupils themselves want from their schooling - of course it is exam grades which they know are the price of entry to a good university (and there are a growing number which are not good) or to a satisfying career, but what else do they want? By listening - to employers - what sort of people will they be looking to recruit into the companies of the future? By listening - to the worthwhile commentators who cast their minds forward to see the way in which the world is changing all around us, every day. In the lifetime of our children, standing still will be moving backwards. By listening - attentively, with our heads and with our hearts, we aim to provide schools and schooling that is consequential, and in being so recognises that children enjoy their lives when they see a purpose in their learning. In striving to achieve this, we will also be looking closely at ways of halting the apparently inexorable rise in fees for private education, with the result that over time a greater number of families will be in a position to choose the independent option.

JESUS – COMMUNITY - CREATIVITY THE BEAR CHURCH IS AN INDEPENDENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH BASED IN DEPTFORD, SE LONDON. WE ARE A HYBRID OF TWO CHURCHES: THE SHAFTESBURY CHRISTIAN CENTRE AND THE BEAR CHURCH WHICH MERGED IN 2007. The Shaftesbury Christian Centre began in 1844 in a loft space above a cowshed off Deptford High Street. It was started by eight Christian men and women as one of London’s first ragged schools, so called because the children were ‘dressed in rags’ with bare feet in all weathers. In 1862, the Earl of Shaftesbury wrote “there is no institution in England more worthy of support than the Deptford Ragged School”. The Deptford Ragged School was renamed ‘The Princess Louise Institute’ in 1914 while The Ragged School Union was renamed The Shaftesbury Society in 1944 and Livability in 2007. The Bear Church began as The Brown Bear in an old public house on Deptford High Street in 1990. It was started by a group of visionary leaders and young people from Ichthus Christian Fellowship as an outreach post and church for young people. Today - The Bear Church is part of The Deptford Ragged Trust. We are a diverse, creative and growing group of people committed to loving God and others. From our base at The Shaftesbury Christian Centre in Deptford we aim to offer a place of refuge, learning, family, innovation, worship, hospitality and entertainment for the people of Deptford and South East London. Our building is home to The Bear Church, Bear Cubs parent and toddler group, parenting courses, ESOL classes, BearLive music events, pantomimes, Deptford Breastfeeding Group, The Evening Service and soup kitchen, The Deptford Ragged School Archive, Psalms and Stretches and Inside Out. We support parents with aspirations for their teenagers – those who want to gain admission to top universities. We help to improve Exam Grades in Core Academic subjects at GCSE and A-level. On average, our students are performing at around a B grade in school before they join us; within a year, they improve by about two grade points. Our main programmes are: Saturday School during term time and Intensive Revision during school holidays. We also have flexible unit-based learning and the premium Consultation Tuition (one-to-one by a top consultant teacher). At the start of the pandemic, we temporarily moved online but we have now opened our centres again for in-person teaching; however, we still run separate online lessons for those who prefers online. Our centres are now open for in-person teaching at: St James School, Kensington Olympia and Trinity School in East Croydon*. We cover the core academic subjects of Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English at both GCSE and A-level. In addition to all the above, we also provide for Further Maths, Economics, History and Psychology at A-level. At GCSE, we cover Further Maths and all the science options – Triple and Combined (double or trilogy) Our teachers are of the highest quality and we have a proven track record for over 16 years. Excel in Key Subjects consists of a group of fully qualified and highly experienced secondary school teachers. Some teach in the Independent and some in the State sector. La Petite Ecole Française (PEF) is an independent French school that follows the French national education system. The school is part of the AEFE (Agence pour l’Enseignement Français à l’Etranger) and enables its students to progress to existing French speaking schools in London. PEF has been awarded French Education Nationale ‘Homologation’ status for all its levels from Petite Section to CM2. The ‘Homologation’ confirms that the school is following the learning methods and objectives of the French curriculum. The school caters for up to 190 children from the age of 3 to 11, after which they progress to schools such as the Lycée Français, Ecole Primaire Jacques Prévert or the Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill. There are currently two Petite Section classes, one Moyenne Section class, one Grande Section class, and a double-level MS/GS. In the primary section, there are double-level classes for CP/CE1 and CE2/CM1 and a single-level class for CM2. The classes are intentionally kept small so that each child can be given the special attention they require. La Petite Ecole Française was founded in 1983. At the end of June 2010 the school relocated to 73 Saint Charles Square. The current location is ideal for a nursery school; it is set away from the main road, the playground is large and the classrooms are light and well designed. The school operates from two ground floors and a first floor, which have been extensively refurbished, whilst maintaining a homely feel. Entry is non-selective and we invite those who are interested to make an appointment with the office to visit the school. However, as the school follows the French national education system and the majority of the lessons are in French, the children are expected to be conversant in French (only for Primary levels) prior to joining the school.

I spent a number of years at the Criminal Bar representing clients charged with all manner of offences, from unlawful abstraction of electricity to Murder. I have appeared in courts throughout England and Wales, including the Court of Appeal. I currently hold a judicial position; I sit as a panel member of the Teaching Regulation Agency. The role involves hearing and determining the outcome of allegations of misconduct against members of the teaching profession. I am a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, and the Criminal Bar Association. I am also an accredited Advocacy Trainer; I received my accreditation from the National Institute of Trial Advocates in 1999. In 1998 I decided to combine practice at the Bar with a career in Post Graduate Education. I developed my teaching career at BPP Law School, where I held various roles, including Course Director of the Bar course and Head of Advocacy Skills on the Bar Course. In 2010 I was awarded the title of Associate Professor of Law. I have over 20 years’ experience in legal education training, I have extensive experience of teaching civil and criminal Advocacy on the Bar Course, Bar Transfer Test (BTT), Higher Rights of Audience course, Legal Practice Course, and Continuing Professional Development courses, (CPD). It started when I began to learn more about the conditions for egg production and I realised that free-range wasn’t the wonderful happy situation that I thought it to be. The standards for labelling products as free-range are not as high as the marketing would suggest. (I am of course speaking in general terms and I know that this won’t apply to all farms, but it appears to apply to the majority). As a vegetarian at that time I’d already thought that I was quite ethically aware with what I bought, and it dawned on me that there must be many other people buying and supporting products that they also think are ethically sound, and that these people too may be interested to know more. Passion for performing arts! As a professional dancer, this prompted me to come up with an idea for a show to raise awareness on global issues and ethical living - not just animal welfare, but also climate change and human rights. However I realised that if the audience are inspired to make ethical changes or learn more, simply watching a show would not give them the tools to do that. Hence the creation of Impact – awesome events and activities to inspire change, with incredible live performances, the tools needed to live ethically and fun ways to implement everyday ethical living even for the busiest of lives! Don’t be put off by the heavy topics we’re dealing with, our events are fun and uplifting, with a vision of making positive changes. I’m not claiming to be perfect, nor am I trying to preach. I’m still learning too. I just know our planet is wonderful, as is the human race and all life that shares Earth with us.
