Beths Grammar School is a selective academy for boys aged 11-16 with a mixed Sixth Form. There are currently 192 student places in each year group in years 7-11. The anticipated capacity for the 6th Form (Years 12 and 13 combined) is 650). In 1995 the school was awarded Technology College Status. In 2005 we were identified as one of the first High Performing Specialist Schools and, in 2006, took on a second specialism in languages. Following an Outstanding Ofsted grading in 2007, Beths became, in 2008, a National Support School. In 2009 the school added a third specialism to its portfolio, as a Leadership Partner School. The international dimension offered by the language specialism is of great value in the modern world. We offer Mandarin Chinese as well as French, German and Spanish, and the various opportunities that arise include visits to China. In May 2010 we became a ‘Confucius Classroom’ – a hub school for Mandarin Chinese.

athan is the CEO of LifeLine Projects, an East London based charity dedicated to finding solutions that positively impact the lives of individuals and influence the systems that govern us. Nathan has worked at LifeLine since 2003 and has developed key relationships with schools across East London providing a ‘pastoral partnership’ in the form of mentoring, alternative provision and youth leadership programmes. Nathan also developed and spearheads LifeLine’s award-winning Vision, Identity and Purpose (VIP) Framework, an approach to working with young people, employment seekers, volunteers and parents. Prior to this he worked for the local Children’s Fund as a Community Liaison Officer. He continues to support youth organisations by providing education and mentoring advice and training. Nathan sits on the Health and Wellbeing Board, The Children’s Partnership and is a governor of a local secondary school. He continues to work with young people on a voluntary basis in addition to his day job to ensure that policy and practice remain connected.

Medway NHS Foundation Trust operates a single-site hospital based in Gillingham, Medway Maritime Hospital, which serves a population of more than 424,000 across Medway and Swale. ABOUT N-ACT THEATRE COMPANY N-Act is a not-for-profit touring theatre company who specialise in delivering interactive performances to educational establishments, colleges and the wider community. Under the leadership of Artistic Director and founder Dr Sharon Williams, the company’s motivation is to use the power of interactive theatre to entertain, to ignite curiosity, provoke thought, and to educate young people to enable them to make informed choices. Through an interactive approach, the audiences have a greater emotional engagement with the topics and empathy with the characters. All performances have had a notable impact on the audiences, both in terms of the theatrical experience and a continuing dialogue with the audiences. The N-Act team comprises professional actors with extensive experience of TV, film, theatre, script writing and backstage production with many successful workshops and performances in the wider community. N-Act Theatre Group is proud to be a multi award-winning company, having recently won the “Members of Parliament Inspire the House – Best Contribution of a Community Group” at the 2022 Kids Count Awards, nominated by Sir David Amess. We have also been the recipients of the prestigious High Sheriff of Essex award in recognition of valuable service to community safety.

Many visitors to Brecon walk to the Usk bridge from where they can photograph the Beacons. In the foreground is a group of buildings which are also worth the visitor’s attention. At the entrance to these buildings a board tells the visitor this is Christ College, founded by royal charter in 1541. That is only half the story of this site which has been occupied for over seven hundred and fifty years. The history of Christ College falls into three unequal periods. For three hundred years it was a Dominican friary; in 1541 Henry VIII established a school here and finally in 1855 the modern ‘public’ school was founded by Act of Parliament. The surviving buildings reflect each of the three periods. The Dominicans were friars who first came to Britain in 1221; they are first mentioned as being at Brecon in 1269. Given that range of dates and the evidence of the surviving medieval buildings, it is likely that the friary was founded c.1250.

There is a structured home learning timetable and all students are given a planner to help them organise their time and workload. Parents/carers are asked to check this on a weekly basis. There are home learning support clubs at lunchtimes and after school to help students if they need it. Beyond the Classroom There are many opportunities for students to take part in extra curricular activities at Seven Kings. A large number of clubs and activities take place outside lesson times. Staff are committed to providing different opportunities to enrich the lives of Seven Kings' students. Subject based clubs, such as those in Art, Drama, Music, Science, Sport and Technology enhance the curriculum and many trips and visits support classroom learning. We offer a number of residential trips, to places like Paris, Spain, China, outdoor pursuits and a skiing trip to Austria. Students are encouraged to enter competitions and to contribute to the community in different ways. Our peer committees and student leadership programmes help develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for students' views to be heard.
