Jane Austen College provides an excellent academic education for all its students but it also does a lot more than that. Enigma Consulting and Solutions was founded in 2016 by Robin Hackshall and provides a variety of Scrum Master, Agile Coach, agile adoption/transformation and training services. Since our formation we have fulfilled these services at some of the UK’s most well know organisations including Lloyds Banking Group, Vodafone, DHL and the University of Leeds. He has worked within an Agile environment since 2011, originally starting out as a Product Owner, he has subsequently fulfilled the roles of Scrum Master and Agile Coach. Robin has supported the adoption or Agile way of working in a number of organisations, across multiple sectors. He has achieved success by engaging and developing relationships with individuals at all organisational levels. This has allowed for the visualisation and continuous improvement of team and organisational processes. Robin looks to put the ‘fun’ into addressing and removing 'dys-fun-ctions' through the use of creative tools, techniques, analogies and a more than occasional use of LEGO. Robin is passionate about supporting individuals, teams and organisations on their agile journey and is now supporting the growth of Scrum Masters through the Scrum Mastery Pathway. Navigating Neurodiversity

The European Agency on the Development of Special Needs Education (EADSNE) (2006) highlighted individual differences as one of the largest challenges faced by teachers in mainstream schools not only in the UK but across Europe. Teacher training and preparation to support neurodiverse pupils within a mainstream setting has failed to keep up with the changes within the field of inclusion leaving teachers ill equipped to achieve true inclusivity within their classroom. The most recent study of mainstream teachers within the West Midlands highlighted that less than 29% of teachers felt confident to support the neurodiverse pupils within their class with 17% unsure of the meaning of Neurodiversity. Navigating Neurodiversity provides hands-on training and support for mainstream schools to improve teacher confidence when supporting the neurodiverse pupils within their classroom. To provide advice and guidance of ensuring barriers to learning within the classroom/school are permanently removed and providing ongoing intervention and support strategies, including de-escalation techniques to provide and happy, safe and inclusive environment which best supports learning for all pupils. We also work with leadership team, including SENCo, providing support, advice, planning and assessment documentation throughout the EHCP application process to ensure a successful outcome is achieved with maximum support gained for learners with SEN. Neurodiversity is the term to show the diverse way of the way the brain functions, specifically the range of ways in which we learn, think and relate to others (Honeybourne 2018). The neurodiversity paradigm argues that there is not one ‘normal’ way in which the brain functions. Originating within the study of autism to show that there was no ‘norm’ with regard to learning and social interaction and that autism was not a disorder, neurodiversity is now the term used to include all perceived neurological differences including dyscalculia, dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and Tourette syndrome and supports the theory that no set way of neurocognitive functioning is more important/normal than the other and that differences in learning should be supported and embraced.

A man of many talents, Joshua delivers result based solutions via three of his main areas of gifting: As an Orator, Eyeonaire (a term Joshua uses to describe his ability to; observe processes, change, and, people), and as a Pioneer. Over the last decade, Joshua has addressed a wide range of people; across different age groups, within different industries and from different socio-economic backgrounds. Joshua’s main focus, is helping young adults & young professionals to; discover what they’re good at, operate from their best, and find fulfilment—through training and development, in the areas of: Leadership, Purpose, Public Speaking & Branding. Joshua is an author of: A Christian’s Perspective on Purpose - An extended devotional that breaks down the ambiguous topic of purpose into practically applicable steps; How to Overcome Nerves - The practical guide to confident speaking for success. He is also the author of DISCOVERY - The branding workbook which breaks down the processes involved in building up a brand. Joshua is also a very keen musician (Drummer) who has performed to hundreds of thousands of people, in the biggest arenas around the U.K. He is a keen supporter of Arsenal Football Club and loves the cinema experience. We are delighted to welcome our new Executive Director Paul Smyth, who comes to us with a wealth of experience and a strong reputation for ground breaking youth work. I am thrilled to have taken up the post of Executive Director with Politics in Action – and I want to start by congratulating my predecessor Patricia O’Lynn on her election to the Northern Ireland Assembly. We live in a turbulent time for politics around the world, nationally and locally – and this makes the work of supporting young people’s role as active citizens more challenging and even more important. We are emerging from a global pandemic which has put unprecedented restrictions on the lives and freedoms of young people, and which has impacted their learning, their social lives, their relationships and for some their mental health. Politics in Action responded proactively to these challenges by moving workshops online and ensuring continuity. I am optimisticwe can return to largely face-to-face delivery of our programmes with young people in schools and other settings, and can find new ways of engaging with more young people and in particular those who are not normally invited into conversations about politics and citizenship. Much of what we already do is in collaboration with schools and with other youth organisations. I see so much potential for additional collaborations that allow our little charity to punch above its weight. One of the many attractions of the role is the excellent Board of Trustees who provide strong governance, leadership and vision for Politics in Action. They bring significant social and political capital to the charity and use it in the interests of young people and our shared future. I would love to hear your ideas about how Politics in Action should direct our energies over the coming months and years. o illustrate the OLS journey, we use a persona/story of Joy, a mentee participating in the program, and Sam, their mentor, as they progress through their open science training. Joy will provide an outline of a project in their application that they will develop in the program. Additionally, they will indicate their interests in learning particular aspects of Open Science and research. Sam will register as a mentor and list their expertise that they would like to share with their mentee. After the selection process, they will be involved in the following steps of this program: Based on their common interests, they will be introduced to each other as suitable mentee and mentor They will meet every 2nd week on mentee-mentor calls (around 30 minutes). Sam will help Joy evaluate their understanding of the new topics introduced in the program, and guide their progress by providing constructive feedback. Joy will be given assignments before these calls to help them apply new skills to their project. When needed, Joy and Sam will connect with other experts to invite consultation on their project. Joy will participate in online training calls and share insights with other participants in the program. In these cohorts calls, they will be introduced to new topics and resources, participate in break-out discussions, and listen to expert talks. Joy will get to know their peers from the cohort during social and co-working calls. They will share their project ideas, learn about others’ projects and discuss assignments. A final graduation call will allow Joy to present their project to other participants and exchange values. Sam will also participate in mentor training calls and attend topic-based discussions with other mentors aimed at enhancing their mentoring skills. A self-evaluation survey, mid-cohort survey and post-cohort survey will help Joy and Sam in positioning their knowledge in open science leadership before, during and after the program.

Beulah is an outward looking church, interested in Rhiwbina and concerned about the wider world. We describe our style of church life as liberal but lively encouraging participation in worship in which we mix traditional hymnody and new music from the world church. We encourage a thoughtful faith, questioning and exploring together what we understand the Bible and faith means today. We have adopted a range of worship patterns. Our main service is Family Worship on a Sunday morning. This gathers all ages together, there is a Junior Church catering for all ages and we have a crèche. The service lasts an hour and a quarter or so and there is coffee after the service. In addition to the service on a Sunday there is one other mid-week service. Meeting Point is primarily a gathering where we share readings for the week and pastoral news. Beulah Church affirms that Christ welcomed all into his company without exception. He did not judge who people were, though he challenged how people behaved towards each other. We believe God calls all kinds of people to work and witness in his name and we want all to feel welcome and included in all aspects of Beulah’s life and leadership. We acknowledge that we have not always lived up to Christ’s standard of warmth and welcome. But, we testify that when his Spirit is at work amongst us we are a people offering care and compassion to all-comers. In 2018 six URC congregations agreed to form The Cardiff and Penarth United Reformed Church Pastorate. The other five churches are: Bethesda URC Tongwynlais, Canton Uniting Church, City URC, Elfed Avenue United Church, and Parkminster URC. Following the URC call process we are delighted to welcome the Reverends Martha McInnes and David Dean as Ministers to the Pastorate. Thus we welcome you to Beulah and invite your contribution to the life of faith here in Beulah and beyond.
