Lighthouse School came about through five families with children on the autistic spectrum who had identified a great demand for a school that specifically met the needs of students on the autistic spectrum. Our vision was to create a school where students can thrive, where their needs are fully understood and met, where learning is individualised and aligned to their destination, and where the environment supports their specific learning styles. We want to enable our students to develop independence, a true sense of their own self-worth and the capacity to contribute to society and live a full and happy life. The Government’s Free School Programme gave us the ideal vehicle to turn the vision into reality and we were fortunate to be the first Special Free School in the country to open its doors in September 2012.

The managing partner, Steven Chambers, has over 30 years strategic and operational experience as a manager and Business Consultant. He was one of the first managers in Northern Ireland to receive the daunting accreditation of Chartered Manager in 2005. CND campaigns non-violently to achieve British nuclear disarmament – to get rid of the Trident nuclear weapons system and stop its replacement. But we recognise that Britain’s nuclear weapons are only a small part of the problem, so we also campaign for a global nuclear weapons ban. We also work to end Britain’s participation in the US Missile Defence system and – with other campaigns internationally – against missile defence and weapons in space. Our other campaigns include opposition to NATO and its nuclear policies and to nuclear power, and the prevention and cessation of wars in which nuclear weapons may be used and the encouragement of non-military solutions to conflict. CND is funded entirely by its members and supporters. Our policies are decided upon by our annual national delegates’ conference, where our national leadership is also elected. Information about the Yorkshire Ridings Maths Hub school in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Includes facts and figures, and photographs.Nicola was appointed to the role of Assistant Headteacher – Executive Head of Maths at Harrogate Grammar School in September 2019, having been Associate Director of Maths for Outwood Grange Academies Trust since 2016, after 6 years as Head of Maths at Outwood Grange Academy. In her role of Head of Department, GCSE results improved considerably, then as SLE and Associate Director of Maths she worked closely with Heads of Maths to develop their leadership, teaching and learning in their departments. For the last 5 years she has had the privilege to play a part in the development of the Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub as Assistant Maths Hub Lead for Secondary. This started with the ‘Increasing Participation at Post-16’ Work Group in 2014. Then in 2015 she took part in a research exchange, studying the teaching of maths in Shanghai. She has since gained her PD Lead qualification with the NCETM and has designed and delivered training programmes to continue to share her knowledge and passion of Teaching for Mastery. Her hands on approach means she is able to demonstrate teaching for mastery on a day to day basis.
