We wondered if we had what it took to succeed and we weren't the most athletic or confident children - quite the opposite. Little did we know that beginning our martial arts journey would be one of the most profound experiences of our lives! We are now working in collaboration with Thinking Matters Ltd thinkingmatters.com Ged has been fully trained as a Thinking Matters consultant and we now have 11 Merseyside Primary schools who have begun the Thinking Matters approach. The focus is on developing the independent metacognitive learners of the future. Over two years all members of the school community benefit from 5 full days of training, using high quality materials based around the latest research. Through a common language of learning the school develops a core pedagogy founded on the cognitive sciences emphasising how we learn, the importance of the emotions and learning, motivation, attitudes to self and school,building a positive mindset, improving teacher questioning and feedback, tackling disadvantage and underperformance, developing memory, extending vocabulary. The focus is on "future proofing" our children to meet the challenges of global exponential change - the rapid growth of technology and AI - building analytical,critical thinking and creative skills. Tom Wagner of Harvard's Change Leadership Group says --"In order to motivate and teach this generation, the school system must be reinvented to be accountable for what matters most. Ayo set up the business in 2021 after almost two decades of working in equality, diversity and inclusion. The idea came from an awakening in society of structural barriers facing minoritized groups, and the need to provide support for organisations to take trusted and sensitive approaches to improve the experiences and outcomes for their staff, service users and customers. Specialist in EDI and business development Ayo has worked in race equality and gender equality organisations since the early 2000s when she started her career at Race Equality West Midlands (REWM) founded by Dr Frank Reeves. She went on to working in a number of grass roots community organisations, and government funded initiatives supporting women in STEM careers, refugee, asylum seeker and migrant communities, and young people at risk of anti-social behaviour. Alongside a successful career in Business Development within Higher Education, between 2011-2019 she also led the charity New Leaders Network, providing training and development to equipt marginalised communities to move into leadership positions. In 2021 Ayo was approached by members of her network to provide bespoke EDI interventions following the impacts of COVID19 and the Black Lives Matter movement. She registered Bakare Barley Ltd as the go to person-centred consultancy service to provide positive, evidence-based and sustainable EDI business solutions.

I wish you a very warm welcome to our website. I am a practising teacher who has over 20 years experience in the secondary education sector, my specialist subject being science. Currently, I hold the position of Deputy Headteacher in an 11-16 secondary school with responsibility for curriculum development. Since being a senior leader, I have gained significant experience in leading whole school professional development and the quality assurance of the quality of education. I have been awarded a distinction in a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and in doing so have carried out research relating to curriculum and social justice. I strongly believe in: Creating an engaging, challenging curriculum which allows all children to flourish and achieve their potential. Providing high quality professional development which allows staff to improve performance in the classroom. An education system that empowers learners and promotes social justice. Promoting social justice is the intrinsic drive behind everything I do, and is one of the core values behind the Iridium Education philosophy.
