About STOP STOP provides world-class teaching in all aspects of the Theatre of the Oppressed (TO), for people who want to incorporate it into their work, whether your background is activism, development, theatre, community, public or social sectors. Building on years of courses led by Augusto Boal and Adrian Jackson, STOP will be the first London organisation exclusively dedicated to the teaching of all aspects of TO. The emphasis will always be on the practice, with a deep grounding in the theory. STOP Co-founder Adrian Jackson enjoyed a close relationship with Augusto Boal during his lifetime. He translated five of Boal’s books into English and collaborated with him on many occasions. Sadly Augusto died in 2009 but his work lives on, and grows and multiplies, through teaching and development. Adrian founded Cardboard Citizens, a trailblazing organisation which used TO with homeless people and migrants for over 30 years. He will lead and oversee STOP courses open to all and with input from leading TO practitioners from all over the world. In our pilot season in autumn / winter 2022, Courses will include intensive training in Forum Theatre, the Rainbow of Desires and TO Jokering (Facilitation). We will also host one international TO practitioner to share their practice with the UK TO community.

Jason West is the founder and chief creator of English Out There. He now has almost thirty years of self-employed experience in transformational English language teaching and learning. In 1992, at the age of 25, he co-founded an English language school in the heart of London’s West End and within two and half years the school achieved British Council accreditation (which annoyed a few people!). A long-standing interest in the psychology of learning lead Jason to feel that something could be done to improve the way his students acquired English. As a result he created the English Out There (EOT) course concept, where students engage directly with fluent or native speakers at every stage of their language development. The language laboratory in EOT's case was (and still is) the streets of London and members of the public (recently we have been experimenting successfully with handheld mobile technology and Google+ community pages). A lot of people have helped to create English Out There over the years. The principal EOT lieutenants have been Georgina Moon, Maria Stamati-Knipe and Jonathan Jones whilst Tim Bowen helped edit the materials for publication. After 250,000 hours of teaching and editing English Out There course materials were born. They can be used both offline and on. The online element came out of a fascination with social media and free internet telephony such as Facebook and Skype. An interesting quirk of their design is that they will work with any and all social media platforms, even those not yet invented! The inexpensive DRM-free course materials for students and teachers recently made the EU’s top 10 formal uses of social media for language learning and can be purchased online from this website. English Out There is the only English program we know of that posts 'before and after' audio and video proof of the amazing progress of real students. It is a truly transformational English course because learners who have tried and failed to speak English comfortably for years find that it helps them to break through their personal language barriers. Using just simple file formats and free online social media, allowing teachers to earn money from the use of the content and making it available at an affordable price is important to Jason and the ethos of English Out There (a student's self-study course costs just £9.99 and can change a life because it will teach you how to learn for yourself for free going forward; a teacher's course level, also 20 lessons/60 hours can be printed and taught as much as they like commercially for just £25.00).

WHICH ORGANISATIONS: Brought heads of private sector organisations, public sector bodies, political leaders and leaders of NGOs together into a collective learning space. Their common goal was the desire to have a positive impact on their organisations, their countries and their region. We have held these across Sub-Saharan Africa as well as within the region of Southern Africa, Asia (drawing people from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Malaysia) and Latin America. WHO WE WORKED WITH: Leaders, influencers and manager from a diverse cross-section of sectors and occupations. WHAT WE DID: Offered established leaders from the public, private and voluntary sectors who are at or near the CEO level, an opportunity to transform what they and their organisations do. This was done using transformational leadership theory and experiential learning techniques to enable cross-cultural conversations and mutual learning. This enabled each individual to draw on new techniques and cross sector experiences to develop their thinking and practice. Project 4 Youth Empowerment (P4YE) is a Community Interest Company born by four friends who became tired of constantly speaking about issues impacting young people negatively, so they decided to do something about it. Concerned about the number of young people involved in, or on the verge of criminality, unemployed, or not in education or training, our team decided to try to change the narrative by dedicating tailored programmes for young people. We assist young people and families by offering a range of support such as group and 1:1 mentoring, online workshops, case study workshops, a weekly youth club, advocacy, and signposting to other professional services. Prevention, intervention, and diversional work is at the forefront of what we do and what we aim for with our young people. We have been trained in Conflict Resolution and mediation and work to resolve instances that can often lead to situations of serious youth violence by using our bespoke methods. Our team has many years of experience of working with young people in a variety of settings such as youth work, teaching, specialised gang work, outreach work and working with young people with special educational needs (SEN). We also have experience in leadership, project management and media and we use our skill sets when developing projects and programmes.
