Power The Fight is an award-winning charity which aims to be the conduit between communities and policy makers (see our Community Empowerment Cycle diagram above). We create co-produced/co-designed long-term strategies for sustainable structural change. Most of our work is with young people, families, schools, local authorities, faith groups and community organisations who want to be equipped to engage with youth violence issues in their context. We do this in a number of ways: 1. Training and Events At Power The Fight we have access to leading thinkers and practitioners from a range of disciplines working in the field of youth violence. Since the beginning of 2019 we have trained and equipped over 8000 organisations and individuals to make a difference to young people’s lives, including the NHS, schools, faith groups, charities, local authorities and more. Resources At Power The Fight we have developed resources to help organisations, faith and community groups to better understand issues relating to youth violence. These include specialist PowerTalks, links to helpful websites and toolkits. For more information go to PowerTalks or our resources page. 3. Building Connections At Power The Fight we bring community groups together with local authorities, services and other partners to promote mutuality, improve cohesion and effect change. Family Based Solutions formerly known as PAARS (parent abuse and reconciliation service) began as a result of three founders coming across parent abuse in their role as secondary school support workers. It was apparent that the issue did not fit the threshold for social care involvement and was not always dealt with by the police in a way that was useful. The founders decided that they wanted to try and support families so they started the charity. 2012 – NOW They began their work in February 2012 with little more than a determination to support families who had nowhere else to turn. When they started the project there were only five organisations across the UK providing any child to parent abuse intervention. The need for the service was unknown and the research and literature on the issue was very scarce, as most of the support and research came from the US and Australia.

We deliver accredited, early intervention programmes to improve the emotional intelligence of predominantly BAME vulnerable young people permanently excluded from mainstream school, on the verge of exclusion or those regularly absent from school. We guide young people to learn alternative strategies that will build self-esteem, build emotional intelligence and resilience by showing them how to think and learn and shift their mindset to determine better future outcomes and increase their locusts of control. Young people will acquire the skills and attitudes necessary to be productive and responsible in their communities and develop their independence. Young people will feel empowered by developing their self-awareness, self-knowledge and self-insight through a strengths-based coaching approach. Their first step to a successful self is engagement and participation in the IDENTITY Project, followed by engagement in the Leadership Project and engagement in the Entrepreneurship Programme.
