Hi, I'm Emma, I've been working in the jewellery trade for over 20 years now. I am absolutely crazy about all things jewellery. I love to wear it, to make it, to buy it, to sell it. I love old jewellery, new jewellery, vintage finds, minimal jewellery and downright fussy jewellery, mostly I am excited about handmade, unusual jewellery that has been designed with love and attention to detail. And yes, it was me on the telly! Find out about artisan jewellery maker, Emma and the inspiration behind her jewellery. My own work is inspired by texture, poetry, family, I love little details added or stamped on gold or silver and celebrating those we love and the people and places that make us tick. i am all about people and their stories and inspired by the tales that the jewellery we wear tells about us. I love working in silver and gold and also have ventured into the world of platinum on request. I make a lot of silver personalised bangles, necklaces and bracelets. I make jewellery in my very lovely studio, around my young family. Yes, I am also a busy mum. I have 3 children under 11 and am also a step mum to 3 other wonderful people, life is fun in our house! I love to teach jewellery making, I run courses and classes from my studio in Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley, West Leeds. Everyone is welcome, complete beginners up to experienced makers, we are wheelchair accessible and our classes are fun and exciting. You can learn from me and my small team how to make your very own jewellery. We run weekend workshops, and also weekly classes, sold in blocks. We can also cater for private parties of up to 16 people. Powdermills Pottery is housed in granite buildings that were once part of a nineteenth century gunpowder factory. It is found in the very centre of Dartmoor National Park in Devon and is part of the Duchy of Cornwall estate. Powdermills is the home and workplace of potter, Joss Hibbs: her range of pottery is sold in The Shop. Cream teas are served in the courtyard in the Summer season, and Throwing Courses are run year-round. The old workshop has been rejuvenated by local charity Friends of the Dartmoor Hill Pony and now houses the Dartmoor Hill Pony Exhibition, explaining the history and importance of the 'wild' ponies on Dartmoor. If you would like to see how Joss makes pots from materials found on Dartmoor using an 'anagama' kiln, please view the short film found on The Pottery page of this website. Joss at Powdermills Facebook page gives you an as-it-happens insight into current activities at the pottery (you can also find Joss Pottery on Twitter or Instagram). The House With the Blue door drawings come from my love for the coast in Lincolnshire. I draw everyday in my sketchbooks using watercolours and inks. My drawing style is unique. It’s very loose, sketchy and full of colour. I like people to look at my work and see something that brings back memories or reminds them of this lovely area of the country. The name The House With the Blue Door is the name of my chalet on the Humberston Fitties. I use my artwork to decorate it, and next year I hope to use it as an art gallery and for art workshops. I studied Physiotherapy at the University of Birmingham, graduating in 2009, and I have since worked locally across a number of acute NHS Trusts. I have a breadth of experience across clinical areas including acute medicine, respiratory, stroke, frailty, trauma & orthoapedics, surgery, neurological rehabilitation and A&E. Alongside my clinical work I have undertaken a post graduate degree in healthcare leadership, worked alongside local universities to review physiotherapy programme quality, provided guest lectures, and completed a coaching and service improvement qualification.
