Since then MCRMA has evolved to encompass the needs of component manufacturer suppliers, stockholders, systems installers, independent roofing and cladding inspectors plus industry support services providers, all providing independent building envelope solutions for metal-based roofing and cladding systems, products and services. MCRMA publishes a wide range of guidance documents and articles which reflect the latest developments in the specification and manufacture of metal building envelope systems and their components. All MCRMA publications are free to download. A new MCRMA guidance document GD39 Sustainability and durability of metal roofing and cladding systems focuses on sustainability from a ‘fabric first’ approach where the metal building envelope provides a long-lasting solution which can be future proofed for potential changes of use of the building. As there is a natural split between sustainability and durability topics the MCRMA guidance document is published as a suite of eight standalone sections each of which covers specific but interrelated subjects, including sustainability background, zero avoidable waste, environmental assessment methods, durability, life cycle/whole life costing, products and components. The document can be downloaded from the sustainability page. MCRMA has published a new Advice Note AN 09 The Building (Amendment) Regulations 2021 Guidance. Advice Note AN 06 Safe working practices on roofs: the distinction between ‘walkable’ and ‘non-fragility’ has been produced to remind all those involved in roof work construction that they have a responsibility to be aware of the most up to date advice on safe working practices and also to be compliant with the legal requirements. Guidance document GD 32 Self drilling fastener installation tools explains that screw guns are an installer essential when working in roofing and cladding construction, as they ensure that the optimum mechanical performance of a self-drilling fastener is obtained, guaranteeing the integrity of the building envelope. Impact drivers should not be used! Their repetitive impact action can lead to drilling failures, reduce the fastener pull-out performance, and damage the coating or strip the moulding on the fastener head.

We are a small family firm started by Albert Nightingale in the 1970’s when NFS quickly became well known across the Cambridgeshire Fen, Peterborough and surrounding area. Albert had over 20 years experience when he started the firm and continued until the mid 2000’s when he decided to retire. His son Patrick Nightingale, himself a trained agricultural engineer & experienced welder, took over the reins and the company is continuing to build on the original legacy, with its reputation for quality, reliability and delivery of all work undertaken Albert remains an active member of the Peterborough Farm Machinery Preservation Society having been one of the founder members. Patrick has continued with the tradition and he is himself too, an active member of the Society. Albert has accumulated a vast wealth of knowledge & experience by both working on other peoples agricultural equipment as well as his own (pictured right exhibiting his own 1930’s John Deere B Series, at the East of England Show) Whereas Patrick completed his apprenticeship with Baker Perkins, going onto work for a renowned Cambridgeshire firm of Agricultural Engineers before joining Railway industry to add to his skills base as an experienced Welder. He has always had a special affinity with metal and welding, coupled with a perfectionist nature has resulted in a truly remarkable workman who prides himself in his work to the very high standards he sets himself Nightingale Farm Services is a small family firm who pride themselves on working together, doing the best they can to support the delivery of a quality restoration for you the customer. Makers Quarter was formed in response to a number of issues facing the independent makers of Manchester. High commercial rents, impractical spaces, and isolation are major problems experienced by many. We felt passionately about finding a solution for this and believe that a shared workshop space is the solution. Manchester was at the heart of the Industrial Revolution and sadly over the years industry has been swapped for office space and city center flats. There needs to be a balance to help small independent businesses thrive and we think the Makers Quarter is a great start! Makers quarter will not only be providing space but a creative community and exciting lessons to the public. Having access to a shared workshop, studio spaces and craft tables in the heart of the city will encourage all types of makers to come together. Having tested the water in a small workshop in collaboration with 3space the positive response has encouraged us to open a larger space. We have searched endlessly to find a suitable location for our members and Makers Quarter in now finally a reality! Our 7500sq ft workshop in central Manchester has great transport connections. Cornbrook tram stop is just a 6 minute walk away and a foot/cycle path along the canal cuts through Castlefield locks and takes you straight into town in less than 15 minutes. Makers Quarter is shared between our members and divided up into larger studio spaces, pods, craft tables and a separate wood workshop for all to access. Creating this community allows us to provide a hassle free, creative space at affordable rates. By offering flexible space on both a permanent and pop up basis we aim to support makers of all levels. Anyone can join, whether they are a professional maker, need a workbench for a weekend hobby, or would like to learn new skills. We will be offering classes in all sorts of interesting crafts such as ceramics, woodwork, Upholstery, furniture making, leather work and many more....check on our members page for upcoming classes or to book a slot in the workshop.
