I started my creative career as a painter and graduated in 1987 from Coventry
(Lanchester) Polytechnic. My main interest was painting murals and I was keen
from the outset that art I created for public sites should involve the people
who share that environment. I went on to paint a number of large murals and
worked as a freelance artist until 1999, when I began working for a local
authority. From 1992 I worked as a Community Arts project manager for an
artists' co-operative and then for 15 years with two local authorities as an
Arts Development officer, developing and managing festivals, community events
and public arts projects. At the same time I continued my creative practice and
exhibited annually with Open Up Sheffield and other similar events.
