Angie Rigard is the new Director of Charnwood Tutors, Loughborough. She has been involved in education for twenty years both in the UK and in international schools in Shanghai, Dubai and Hong Kong, respectively. Angie has taught GCSE English Language and Literature, as well as A Level English Literature and Media Studies. Throughout her time in schools, she has been Head of English and Head of Year, as well as playing key roles in mentoring students during the transition from Primary to Secondary school, curriculum design and whole school SEN policy. Angie is also an experienced BACP Registered Integrative Psychotherapist trained in Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, Existentialist, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Attachment and CBT modes of therapy. She has a private practice and works for a number of outside agencies, including EAP Provision, working with children and young people and supporting adults suffering Critical Incident Trauma. In the summer of 2020, faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, someone set up an online course called “Quran2020” with an old Sony Handycam, hoping to deliver a beneficial course to a small group of university students. Very soon, 3,000+ people registered for the course with demand for more. We know from first-hand experience that the opportunity to learn Islam in a clear, structured and accessible manner isn’t always available, particularly to those who are occupied with work, family life, or their studies – time never seems to allow some of us to learn despite our yearning for it. Our current avenues for learning Islam are not perfect: YouTube is far too distracting, the local masjid may not have the resources or speak our language, and local institutes may offer multi-year scholarship programs not built for someone looking for the basics. Starting with the Essentials, we hope to offer a viable and fresh solution for those without the local resources, searching for alternatives.

The club is fully insured through our National Governing Body British Gymnastics, and is affiliated to both the East Midlands Gymnastics Association and the Nottinghamshire County Gymnastics Association. All members of our team hold British Gymnastics coaching awards, are insured through British Gymnastics, and have obtained a clear DBS check. A First Aider is also present at all sessions that we provide. Both Devina and Anand are British born with an Indian heritage. This enables them to draw from their roots between the East and West and share the ancient knowledge of yoga in a more accessible way. Being a former dancer, classical dancer, it informed me as a human being just in terms of the grace I guess. Ballet is a very graceful form of art. You also become very aware of your body and your mind and your body is working in conjunction. That kind of helps you in acting as well. It is not only using your mind, it is like making your own mind communicate this character into your body so that you can bring it to life and physicalize it. Cara began dancing at a very young age taking part in ballet, tap, modern jazz, street dance, lyrical and musical theatre lessons throughout all of her childhood. She went on to study Sport at college alongside doing her teacher training within dance. Cara then went on to study musical theatre and dance at a full time professional college, alongside teaching dance at the weekend. After having to pull out of college with a serious injury she decided being a professional performer wasn’t for her as she LOVED every second of teaching, so focussed all of her time on gaining 10 teaching qualifications within the IDTA. Alongside teaching for nearly half of her life, Cara has also taken part in many amateur dramatic companies performing in musicals, worked for professional dance companies in shows and events and completed many training courses including physical literacy, nutrition, Zumba, exercise to music, and smoking cessation. She has a background of working with families and children in helping them live a healthier lifestyle as part of a Derby County Community Trust program and continues to work with DCCT delivering sessions for different programs they run. 14 years of teaching dance has given Cara lots of experience in working with a wide variety of children, including those with behavioural and learning difficulties. She has worked in many primary and secondary schools across Derby and Nottingham and continues to do so with pride. A fact about Cara: Alongside running The One School of Dance, she is a mummy to two small children (so please be patient with her).
