Fundamentals of Gas Well Deliquification

By EnergyEdge - Training for a Sustainable Energy Future

About this training course Gas well performance is dictated by the combination of inflow and outflow performance. The outflow performance of any gas well is at risk as soon as the gas rate becomes insufficient to lift the associated liquid water and condensate to surface. This condition is referred to as liquid loading and invariably causes intermittent production and significant loss of well capacity and reserves. Liquid loading can be mitigated by different types of gas well deliquification such as compression, velocity string, plunger lift, foam-assisted lift, gas lift and downhole pump. This 5 full-day course will first show how to predict and recognize liquid loading. Next, it will describe how to select, design, install and operate the best sequence of deliquification measures. It will also consider deliquification in the presence of other production threats such as water production and halite blockage. These topics will be illustrated by an abundance of field examples and case studies. The participants will be completing a case study during the training. This case study is preferably based on their own relevant data set. If no such data is available, an external data set will be provided instead. Prerequisites skills: It is necessary for the participants to have a basic knowledge of petroleum engineering and gas well performance. This course can also be offered through Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) format. Training Objectives On completion of this course, the participants will be able to: Develop skills and tools to understand and model gas well liquid loading and deliquification Understand the principles and practicalities of different deliquification methods Learn how to compare, select and apply deliquification measures by taking own field case as example Target Audience This course is intended for production engineer, surveillance engineer, completion engineer, production/process chemist, reservoir engineer, production programmer, production operator as well as professionals responsible for selecting, installing, operating, monitoring and optimizing deliquification. Course Level Basic or Foundation Training Methods This course utilizes Excel worksheets first introduced in the Optimising Gas Well Performance course. To derive maximum learning value, the participants are requested to bring their own relevant set of field data to complete their own case study during the training. The list of data required will be shared beforehand so data can be timely collected and cleared for external use. The participants should be prepared to complete any unfinished exercises and assignments before next day's session starts. The instructor will be available to discuss any remaining queries after the completion of the course. Trainer Your expert course leader brings with him 35 years of oil and gas field experience within Shell of which 25 years as gas well production engineer. He has covered the full spectrum of activities moving from R&D to green field development to brown field surveillance and optimisation, to become a leading gas well performance and deliquification specialist. He likes to capture the complex reality of gas well inflow, outflow and reservoir performance by means of practical data-driven rules and tools that cover a wide range of conditions i.e. shallow-to-deep, prolific-to-tight, dry-to-wet, green-to-brown, 1-1/2'-to-9-5/8' tubing, and depletion-to-aquifer drive. Before his retirement in end 2020, he worked for various Shell affiliated oil and gas companies including Shell Malaysia, Petroleum Development Oman, NAM Netherlands and Shell R&D in Netherlands and USA. Maintenance Planning, Scheduling & Control

By EnergyEdge - Training for a Sustainable Energy Future

About this Training Course Whether you are maintaining an oil rig or processing plant, good quality maintenance is critical to delivering a safe reliable product to your customers. Whatever your level of maintenance experience, this course will equip you with the valuable skills and understanding that will enhance your maintenance career. Too often the maintenance department is seen as the cause of why assets are unavailable, in poor condition yet are costing too much to maintain. By comparison, pace setting companies see maintenance as adding value to their assets and employ an integrated, holistic approach to their maintenance activities. This course will help you move towards that pace setting performance. This course is based on an integrated maintenance model that has been used by leading companies and consultants with success and recognised as best practice. Participants will learn the total impact that maintenance can have on a business, identify key elements (and value) of effective maintenance for their own plants to not only reduce costs but also improve performance. The critical types of maintenance will be covered from day-to-day activities to shutdowns and reliability improvement. The course will break down traditional functional boundaries and encourage a holistic approach to maintenance. With an organisation's maintenance process only as good as its weakest link, this course will guide participants through all the key steps of a maintenance process and its supply chain. Participants will understand what is considered a good standard for each step in the maintenance process, how to identify the weakest links and subsequently how they can accelerate their performance improvement. Participants will have the option of gaining a Bronze Level qualification from the Academy of Turnarounds Operations of Maintenance. For those who obtain a pass, they will receive a Pass certificate and for those who achieve the top quartile score, they will receive a Distinction level pass. This course can also be offered through Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) format. Training Objectives By the end of the course, participants will be able to: Explain the challenges and objectives facing maintenance organisations today Demonstrate the importance of work order systems and use techniques for time estimations and priority assignments Prepare a preventive maintenance program Apply project management techniques to effectively manage major maintenance activities and shut downs Use capital budgeting techniques to evaluate maintenance capital expenditures Demonstrate understanding of how to maintain the optimal stock levels of spare parts to ensure operational continuity Prepare the right Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate and improve performance in maintenance Target Audience This course is not just for maintenance professionals. Maintenance teams cannot perform without effective integration with operations and supply chain functions. Availability losses are often caused by operations or design issues and pace setting companies have generated significant benefits by integrating operation and maintenance strategies and working more collaboratively. This course will help all members of the operations and maintenance teams and their supply chain better understand their respective roles in ensuring that maintenance is benefitting and not inhibiting their business. Course Level Basic or Foundation Trainer Your expert course leader is a highly experienced facilitator in maintenance improvement, change management, continuous improvement and capability development as a management coach and trainer. He has a strong focus on people with an emphasis on developing people and the practicalities of improving maintenance performance rather than just the theory. He has worked internationally across Europe, America, the Middle East and Africa with extensive experience in Oil and Gas, the Chemicals sector and manufacturing as well as working with clients in Steel and Power Generation. As a result, he can bring best practice from a wide variety of sources. He spent the first fifteen years of his career as a specialist trainer working for companies such as Lloyds British Training Services and Rolls Royce. He then went on to work as a Principal consultant for ABB consulting for 15 years. During this time, he refined some of the established improvement tools including how and when to apply them for maximum impact whilst still continuing to develop and deliver training in support of this. Recent work has included improvements to the Work Order to Work Execution processes of Engineering departments and focused on Reliability, Planning and Scheduling. This ongoing field experience has helped him test and refine specialist training in a number of areas. He has been able to use his own experience to contribute with other maintenance specialists to the Carcharodon models of excellence. Its methodologies are recognised as 'Best of the Best' standards providing the inspiration for two books, projects that have won awards such as the prodigious UK Chemical Industries annual Excellence in Engineering award and form the basis of this training. He was recently awarded a national award as coach of the year. He uses the same skills to ensure that he does not just preach maintenance best practice, he discusses it, explains it and ensures that delegates have a much more personal and flexible experience. EPCIC Contract Drafting and Management: With Essential Elements of International Contract Laws

By EnergyEdge - Training for a Sustainable Energy Future

About this Training Course In turbulent times for the entire Energy Sector, Oil & Gas E & P segments are coming under tremendous pressure to reinvigorate. Oil Majors like Shell Plc are no longer termed as Oil & Gas Company but also branded as SHELL Energy, with technology at its forefront. The Risks, Scope and Context of Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning (EPCIC) Projects is evolving rapidly. Thus, the success of a project is dependent on the practical 'know how' in scoping, contract drafting, negotiation and execution competencies. Understanding the essential ingredients of contracts and mastering the international contracting principles will equip the participants to identify vague and ambiguous clauses, avoid dangerous and often hidden terms, and better understand the controlling position in a project. In this 3 full-day course, the participants will find out how to negotiate legacy contracts where parties are not allowed to edit any clauses during the bidding process. The participants will learn from the Case Law Reports and analysis to take home lessons learned from bitter experiences of their peers in the industry. It is designed to help those who need a solution to manage current contractual issues or those who execute contracts regularly and want to be more proficient in managing their contracts and projects, with changing contexts. The course is developed with the underlying objectives for the participants to: Enhance their current knowledge of the legal principles governing international Contracts from formation, execution to breaches, redresses and dispute resolution either as a party or as a consortium member or as a coverture. Manage Consortium and Joint Venture Partners inter-relationship and contractual responsibilities. Identify dangerous exposures due to joint and severally liable requirements of consortium-based contracts. Effectively Manage Risks of Projects, with Enforceable Contract Documents, by learning the purpose and potential benefits of maintaining evidence in compliance to the contract clauses. Learn the Contract Enforcement Nuggets of Owners and the Variation Claims Strategies of the Contractors. Allocation of contract management related roles / assignments and WBS within consortium partners for effective project management and profitable results. Use of Contract Terms & Conditions for enhancing project performance, monitoring, reporting, and achieving timely completion, thereby avoiding delays and disputes. This course can also be offered through Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) format. Training Objectives Upon completion of the course, the participants will have learnt: Project management strictly in accordance with the contract and the corporate strategies. How to ensure that Variations Order claims are appropriately managed in turnkey and lump-sum contracts. Manage contemporary challenges and market factors with direct or indirect impact on the contracts. Managing all members of the Supply Chain from vendors to logistics services providers. Cost Engineering and Performance Management. How to manage Consortium Partners, Contractors, and Owner's representatives. When and how to obtain / grant extension of time (EOT) and costs. Ability to identify rights and obligations of each party to a contract instead of making subjective decisions. Ability to be firm in negotiations without violating terms of the agreements. Ability to spot different legal systems, contract laws and arbitration rules. Ability to negotiate and avoidance of disputes and resolution in amicable manner, in accordance with the provisions of the contract. Competency in developing and maintaining documentary evidence and traceability for all works executed during the project.
