Eden’s Trust (registered charity No. 1136092) was set up by Elli Galvani after her daughter, Eden Galvani-Skeete, was tragically killed at a five star resort in Turkey in 2006 when an entertainment stunt went wrong. As the evening got underway, a wall of fire was lit but when a waiter tried to light a second line of fire, the bottle of flammable liquid he was holding caught alight and exploded, sending fireballs into the audience. Eden took the brunt of the explosion and was on fire from head to toe, suffering 70% burns. Two days later on 31 July 2006, after suffering two heart attacks and kidney failure, Eden died. She was just six years old. As Elli tried to come to terms with Eden’s death, she became painfully aware of a gap in specialised counselling so decided to set up support/survival groups and workshops especially for people who have lost a child. The groups, launched in May 2013, are FREE to attend thanks to special funding sourced by Elli. More information can be found on our Support Groups page. We also support bereaved children in a school setting and offer  training courses to school staff on bereavement counselling and benefits of early intervention.'

After finishing school I was fortunate enough to be chosen for another full time scholarship place at Millennium Dance 2000 College for 3 years performing arts training. Even with all this incredible training I still look back fondly at the small performing arts school I attended one night a week in Leeds : Scala Kids. I owe a lot of my skills to the training I received there and would look forward to going to my classes every week without the pressure of taking exams or doing competitions. I was made to feel like part of the "Scala" family and felt free to be creative and express my talents. This is how I want the Theatre Skills Academy to be- a place where kids can come to be creative, build confidence, feel equal, learn new skills, improve their talents, and have FUN. WE ARE A HYBRID OF TWO CHURCHES: THE SHAFTESBURY CHRISTIAN CENTRE AND THE BEAR CHURCH WHICH MERGED IN 2007. The Shaftesbury Christian Centre began in 1844 in a loft space above a cowshed off Deptford High Street. It was started by eight Christian men and women as one of London’s first ragged schools, so called because the children were ‘dressed in rags’ with bare feet in all weathers. In 1862, the Earl of Shaftesbury wrote “there is no institution in England more worthy of support than the Deptford Ragged School”. The Deptford Ragged School was renamed ‘The Princess Louise Institute’ in 1914 while The Ragged School Union was renamed The Shaftesbury Society in 1944 and Livability in 2007. The Bear Church began as The Brown Bear in an old public house on Deptford High Street in 1990. It was started by a group of visionary leaders and young people from Ichthus Christian Fellowship as an outreach post and church for young people. Today - The Bear Church is part of The Deptford Ragged Trust. We are a diverse, creative and growing group of people committed to loving God and others. From our base at The Shaftesbury Christian Centre in Deptford we aim to offer a place of refuge, learning, family, innovation, worship, hospitality and entertainment for the people of Deptford and South East London. I now work independently after almost 20 years in NHS positions. I currently hold an honorary contract the NHS Royal Brompton Hospital in London, having lead their Paediatric Speech Therapy service for the last 8 years. I continue to do some Locum clinical work there as well as clinical research. I'm one of those really lucky people who get out bed each day and goes to work because I love what I do.
