Welcome to Prendergast School. It is an honour and a privilege to be Prendergast School’s eleventh Headteacher and to work with staff, students and families. Staff here are passionate about ensuring the very best opportunities and education for all students. We take pride in building strong relationships with students and their families. We have a long history of providing exceptional education to young people. We were founded in 1880 as Prendergast Grammar School for Girls on a site in Catford provided by the Leathersellers’ Company, which then funded the school’s move to its current site in 1995. We are now part of the Leathersellers’ Federation of schools, a group of three secondary and two primary schools as well as Prendergast 6th Form. We are very fortunate to be part of the Federation and receive a lot of support from the Leathersellers’ Company, that helps our students succeed. We are very proud of our last Ofsted judgement of Outstanding in all areas, our third Outstanding judgement in a row. We are described in the most recent report as ‘exceptional’ and having ‘exemplary attitudes to learning’ across the school. We do achieve great academic results at Prendergast School (more information is on the website). However, as a parent or carer you also want to know that your child is happy and safe. This is very important to us and we pride ourselves that students feel confident in school and thrive under our care. It is important that when students leave after their time with us that they do so as well-rounded individuals who have had many different experiences, able to overcome challenges and most importantly to learn from their mistakes. It is important that students get involved in school life as much as possible. We have a wide range of extra-curricular activities and we do encourage all students to get involved. We expect all students to attend school journeys. Communication is very important to us. We always like to know what we do well and what we can improve on further. We ask students and families to get in contact with us if there is something that they would like to ask or raise with us.

Most students are between 18 – 24 years old and the length of a typical stay is 4 – 6 months. In Denmark we have a long Folk High School tradition – the first school was founded in 1844. What is an international Folk High School? More and more international students attend the Danish Folk High Schools, but what classifies an international Folk High School is that the school has more international than Danish students and that everything at the school happens in English language. International People’s College is the only international ‘general’ Folk High School in Denmark.

James Hall is a diligent and creative music professional who is immersed in Musical Theatre. He specialises in musical direction and the teaching of singing and performance techniques. As a musical director he aspires to provide an excellent musical product and experience for all. As a teacher he challenges students to explore a range of strategies and tools to get the best out of their voice and performance. He ensures students maintain their individuality, creative musicality and performance integrity.   As a singing teacher James specialises in musical theatre, incorporating the Estill model in his teaching. As well as leading workshops and group singing classes James teaches privately offering lessons for adults and children; both professional and amateur. As well as fundamental singing technique James also focuses on interpretation and acting through song to enhance the performance of songs for all styles. Some pupils take singing and music theatre exams maintaining a 100% pass rate. James offers assistance with audition preparation and applications for vocational colleges and professional courses. Previous pupils have gone onto study at Arts Educational School, Mountview, Guildford School of Acting, London Studio Centre, ALRA, The Urdang Academy, Italia Conti, The Oxford School of Drama, The Brit School, University of Chichester and others have gone on to perform professionally around the country and in West End shows.     James’ skills as a singing teacher coincide with his work as a freelance musical director. I also provide lessons for clients who purely just love singing, there's no judgment or pressure to do anything just turn up and have fun singing with live piano accompaniment; any style, completely flexible and up to the individual. Dimensions Entertainment is a voluntary unincorporated social enterprise organisation established in 2007 that was initially youth led by a 4 member team of dancers to promote the Carnival Arts and Dance in the London. Dimensions run an extensive outreach learning programme where we engage with over hundreds of young people each year. Our learning workshops provide participants with skills and creative experiences in all forms of Cultural Arts to develop a exclusive dance, drama and costume style, bringing the art to schools, community centres and other organisations a taste of culture, including local regular classes for those that want to learn something new or want further training. We have participated in displays at major events including Tottenham Carnival, Youth Dance day, Seychelles Carnival and many others. Dimensions London is aiming to become one of the leading Carnival Arts and Dance organisations within the UK by honing the past and present traditions of the Carnival and dance and promoting it to our targeted audiences. RefuNet is about connecting refugees and volunteers who would like to teach them. We strongly believe that the best way for refugees to integrate into society is through face-to-face interaction. But to do so it's really important to be able to speak English. Lots of charities do amazing work offering English lessons in person but this doesn't suit everyone - people who are unable to travel, whether due to the costs or other personal circumstances, people who work during the day, or those who would rather learn from the comfort of their own home. Unfortunately, most schools aren't able to provide refugee pupils the support they need to keep up with other students, especially if their English level is low or they have missed schooling. For adults not in formal education, they may feel like there is no support at all. We hope RefuNet can be a way for people who want lessons on a really flexible basis to connect with teachers. We also think the 1-1 format means students benefit from really bespoke lessons and allows teachers and students to form a personal relationship.

The British Kodály Academy promotes the advancement of British music education, following the teachings of Zoltán Kodály. The Kodály Approach – musicianship through singing – provides tools to develop fundamentals such as pulse, inner hearing, good tuning and sight reading ability. It’s said to be life-changing! Zoltán Kodály Courses are available for everyone wanting to develop their own singing, musicianship and conducting skills, whilst teachers are helped to develop skills and confidence to deliver music lessons at all levels: Early Years, KS1, KS2, KS3 and beyond – to Higher Education and Instrumental teaching. The structured, sequential learning process is based on an understanding of how musical skills and concepts are absorbed through practical activity and singing, using appropriate repertoire – from simple children’s songs to complex art music.
