Dr. Steve Wolf, Ph.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY 10230), in private practice in West Los Angeles. After teaching Anger Management for five years, he was recognized as having diplomate status with the National Anger Management Association (NAMA) in 2005; which he currently holds. He has been an innovator throughout his professional career. He co-directed New York City’s first Prison Therapeutic Community Program in Rikers Island Prison’s Psychiatric Ward in 1973 and directed Rikers’ first Therapeutic Community Drug Program for the general prison population in 1974. He directed a Day Treatment Center in Litchfield Connecticut, volunteered with the L.A. Sheriff’s Department to co-create Project Turnaround, an Acupuncture Detox program on L.A.’s skid row. He co-created an alternative middle school in Topanga, CA, co-authored “Romancing the Shadow: A Guide to Soul Work for a Vital Authentic Life” (Ballantine, 1997, translated into six languages), and developed “The Village Circle Project”: leaderless groups for self-exploration. He consulted as a Co-Occurring Disorders therapist in Los Angeles working with men coming directly from prison, jail or the street for five years. In 2006, he authored the “Taming Your Anger” series of English and Spanish workbooks, DVD’s, C.D.’s and workshops. He recently taught the Taming Your Anger/Emotional Intelligence Method to at-risk teens and has produced a documentary film of that program. In 2010. he founded the Wolf Training Institute, which serves as the umbrella for all the programs in development. This is where the practitioners are certified to teach and coach the Taming Your Anger, Taming Your Anxiety and CouplezWork Programs. The Taming Your Anger Program is recognized by the National Anger Management Association. In 2012, he produced the documentary, Remedy 4 Rage; the story of one alternative high school group and their journey into exploring their own emotions. In 2014, he began to host the weekly “Shrink Different Radio Show” on the TFOK Network. He has interviewed celebrities and regular people who have interesting lives. The show is about people and their passions. He maintains a therapy practice, working with adults and couples in West Los Angeles. The next book is on the evolving couple and is scheduled to be released in early 2020.

Here we are again in December with all the pressure that comes with it. The temperature has changed, the light has changed, the music on the radio has changed and the lights and decorations up everywhere are telling us of the joy to come, but we have to grind our way there. Grind our way through it and remember that not everyone is going to have a plentiful Christmas. We move towards it with restrained excitement and know that our foodbank collections and distribution will probably mean as much as at any time in recent years. 8W got stuck into The Samaritans Shoe Box appeal and managed to fill and send 9 shoe boxes for girls and boys for all age ranges from the wonderful donations received. The class are tracking them and we look forward with them to see where they end up. We know it’s a huge thing to receive one of these boxes in the target countries. Year 11’s are currently in the thick of their paper 1 mock exams and doing well, giving it a real go. We had the Functional Skills Reading paper results for a group of them yesterday and were thrilled to discover 9 out of 13 passed and one pupil missed out on a pass by only one mark. The results of the Writing Paper taken last week will be a little slower in arriving but we hope for a similar level of success. The paper 2 mocks will be in January and will help to prepare the pupils for the GCSE exams proper in May and June in 2023. There are planned trips to the Christmas markets and around the County to see some cultural sites in the next two weeks, but we are still full gas as we approach the end of term. The Daily Yellow news sheet continues to provide interesting reading for our community. The tutor teams have done a great job in producing it these last 6 weeks especially.

Alexander Polyanichko, an internationally renowned conductor and educator regularly leads conducting masterclasses in cooperation with organizations such as Peter the Great Music Academy, Royal Baltic Festival, Hermitage Theatre, and St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic. A graduate of the Leningrad State Conservatory and the former student and assistant of the eminent conductor and pedagogue Ilya Musin (whose students were Yuri Temirkanov, Semyon Bychkov, and Valery Gergiev, among others), maestro Polyanichko has been one of Musin’s biggest proponents, carrying the great tradition of the St. Petersburg school of conducting. Maestro Polyanichko’s artistry, knowledge, his genuine willingness to share his experiences, his sense of humour, as well as his friendly and respectful manner of communication create a free exchange of ideas and a spirit of collaboration, while he and his students search for ways to resolve emerging issues related to the mastery of conducting, in a comfortable and productive masterclass atmosphere. Masterclasses traditionally consist of two parts: First Part, where the music conducted is being accompanied by two experienced pianists; and the Second Part where the students have the opportunity to work with a professional symphony orchestra. The dress rehearsal preceding the concert is where the conductors have a full assestment of their skills, as well as the final public concert (professionally recorded) as the culmination of the masterclass. During his twenty or so years of teaching at masterclasses, aestro MAlexander Polyanichko has worked with conductors from countries around the world including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Oman, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States of America. His students have consistently expressed their appreciation on his pedagogical skills and the masterclasses, and have gone to conduct many successful performances of their own in their respective countries and beyond. Formerly a violinist in the Leningrad (St. Petersburg) Philharmonic Orchestra under Evgeny Mravinsky, Alexander Polianichko studied conducting at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire with Prof. Iliya Musin. In December 1988, he was awarded first prize in the Sixth All-Union Conducting Competition. In February 1989, he was invited by Maestro V. Gergiev to join to the Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre as a House Conductor. Alexander toured with the Company throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. In 1994, Polianichko made his London debut conducting English National Opera’s production of Eugene Onegin. This led to him conducting two productions of Tchaikovsky’s operas with the Royal Opera Covent Garden: a revival of The Queen of Spades with Placido Domingo, and a new production of The Tsarina’s Slippers by Francesca Zambello of Cherevichki. As a guest conductor, Polianichko has appeared at many renowned opera houses, including the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Royal Opera House, La Scala, Deutsche Oper, San Francisco Opera, Australian Opera, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Danish Royal Opera, Stuttgart Oper, Colorado Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Norwegian Royal Opera, and Swedish Royal Opera. In 1996, he was invited to take the Opéra National de Paris to New York for their appearances at the Met. Polianichko appears at many prestigious music festivals in Russia and abroad, including Edinburgh, Aldeburgh and Savonlinna, Golden Mask, White Nights and Chaliapin Opera Festivals, and had the privilege to work with many world-famous artists and singers, such as Anna Netrebko, Anne Sofie von Otter, Elena Obraztsova, Dawn Upshaw, Olga Borodina, Makvala Kasrashvili, Larissa Diadkova, Irina Bogacheva, as well as Placido Domingo, Jonas Kaufmann, Vladimir Galuzin, Ildar Abdrazakov, Sir Thomas Allen, Pata Burchuladze, Sergey Leiferkus, John Tomlinson and many others. He participated as the Jury member at the Rimsky-Korsakov Opera Singers’ Competition (1996), the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition (2011), and the Makris International Conducting Competition (2019). I am open to producing works of art by commission. painting Painting is expression, a way of me talking with everybody else about how I feel, like a bluesman would play his blues. A retired Social Worker, I have a passion for children, young people and their families. It was my joy, to find the most creative and interesting ways to engage children and young people with so many varied learning styles.
