Sands exists to reduce the number of babies dying and to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth, whenever this happened and for as long as they need support. Babies are dying every day. Currently in the UK, 13 families a day suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby before, during or shortly after birth. That’s around 4,500 babies a year. And an estimated 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage. These numbers are shocking and show the scale of the problem. Currently, far too many babies die without scientists, doctors, midwives, or their own parents understanding why. That’s why we believe research is vital in improving our understanding of how to save babies’ lives and using that evidence to drive changes in maternity policy and practice. For more than 40 years, Sands has been here for anyone affected by pregnancy and baby loss to offer understanding and comfort through its Freephone helpline, mobile app, online community and resources, and locally through a UK-wide network of around 100 regional support groups. Sands works in partnership with health care professionals, trusts and health boards and offers a range of training programmes and bereavement care resources to ensure that every bereaved parent and family receives the best possible care wherever they are in the UK. Sands supports and promotes research to better understand the causes of baby deaths, improve maternity safety and save babies’ lives. The charity also raises awareness of baby loss and works with governments, key influencers and other stakeholders to make reducing the number of babies dying a priority nationally and locally.

CLOD ENSEMBLE create provocative, finely crafted performance and participation projects driven by movement and music. For over 25 years, director Suzy Willson and composer Paul Clark have developed a highly original performance language, in collaboration with dancers, actors, musicians, medics, architects and orchestras. Our core team work from our studios in the Design District on Greenwich Peninsula, and we work with a wide range of freelance artists on each project. Each production has a unique visual identity and distinctive musical score. Highlights include Silver Swan, featuring a choir of seven unaccompanied singers; Under Glass, where performers are contained within glass cases, from a jam jar to a test tube; An Anatomie in Four Quarters in which the audience cut a path through the auditorium of a large theatre and Red Ladies, a chorus of identically dressed women who transform, celebrate and interrupt the familiar streets of a city. Our work is presented in London, across the UK and internationally in theatres, dance houses, galleries and public spaces including Sadler’s Wells, Tate Modern, The Lowry, Wales Millennium Centre, Serralves Museum Porto and Public Theater New York. Our approach to performance making embraces difference and ambiguity, allowing us to work with complex ideas in complex systems. Each of our projects upholds movement, music and visual languages as vital ways of knowing, learning, and communicating. I have the privilege of heading up two incredible organisations – Progress Schools and Progress Careers – who work in very different ways, but with the very same objective and under one umbrella – Progress Education. At Progress Schools, we currently have thirteen independent secondary schools, located throughout England, who support local authorities and mainstream schools to work with young people who require an alternative approach to their education. Many students have diagnosed/undiagnosed SEND/SEMH and have likely experienced the trauma of a permanent exclusion from at least one mainstream school. Through our incredible workforce of teachers, engagement mentors, welfare officers and alike, we ensure a truly rounded curriculum that is delivered in a nurturing and supportive way, enable us to identify the potential and ambitions of our young people and work with them to support them to access those opportunities when they leave us at the end of year 11. In 2019, The Timpson Review of School Exclusions identified that more than half of young people who access alternative provision (AP) or PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) type settings become NEET (not in education, employment or training) when they leave school. Every year since our inception in 2016, we have supported more than 80% of our students progress into a positive destination when they leave us after year 11. This has also supported us to achieve consecutive ‘good’ judgements in every one of our Ofsted inspections. At Progress Careers (formerly CareersInc), we currently work with more than 60 secondary schools and academies, including multi academy trusts, to provide an exception careers guidance service. Our team of Level 6 and Level 7 qualified independent careers advisers, work with the students across each of these schools to provide that personalised guidance that they require to enable them to make the choices that recognise their potential and raise their ambitions. Primarily based at our own purpose-built venue in North London, we create theatre for all ages and run successful outreach projects, education courses and membership programmes throughout the year. We are also a registered charity and rely heavily on the generous support of individuals, companies, trusts and foundations in order to continue our pioneering work. Performance Entertaining and thought-provoking Performance is at the heart of everything that we do, and brings together all aspects of the company. Our work uses the stage to celebrate diversity and performance as a vehicle to communicate with audiences and tackle topical social issues. We regularly present original and entertaining productions for young children, families and adults. We also create new work, inspired by the people around us, about personal and social issues that affect society today which we then take on tour to theatres, community centres and schools across the UK. Education Because everyone has a right Chickenshed changes lives by bringing young people from all social and economic backgrounds, cultures and abilities together to study creatively alongside each other, many of whom have been marginalised by society and excluded from mainstream educational settings. We welcome over 200 students onto our Level 3, Foundation Degree and BA courses every year. 66% of students would not otherwise have the opportunity to study, yet 95% of these same students achieve a nationally recognised qualification at Chickenshed. Participation Celebrating diversity We believe that every person who joins our company positively changes the way that we work. We work to every individual's strengths, finding the creative environment that will enable them to flourish. We hold weekly workshops for over 900 children and young people - providing them with a safe and rewarding environment where they can gain a new-found confidence and have the chance to regularly perform in major in-house productions. Outreach Targeting those who are difficult to reach Chickenshed has established a network of partners that enables us to effectively target children and young people who would otherwise not be able to access our work. Young Creators Vocational training programme Young Creators is a professional development programme which launched in 2013, providing young people with access to training and practical work experience in a variety of theatre skills.
