ABOUT US Wuntanara – meaning ‘we are together’ in the Soussou language from Guinea Conakry – is a collective of outstanding artists from West Africa and dedicated African drumming and dance students from across Europe. Master Drummer Souleymane Compo is the Founder and Artistic Director Wuntanara, and CEO of Wuntanara Ltd. Souleymane was born into the proud musical tradition in Guinea. As a young man he travelled to The Gambia, where he continued his training in the traditional arts with Guinean masters, in the famous Fatala Drum and Dance School. He soon began teaching African drumming and dance to students from all over the world. An accomplished dancer, he also became choreographer and lead dancer for the Fatala Ballet troupe. Souleymane moved from Africa to London in 2004. Since then he has been teaching and performing in schools, weekly classes, festivals and private events across the UK. He combines warmth and patience with great musical knowledge and skill. He is an inspiring teacher, as well as an accomplished performer. Wuntanara's lead dancer is Salif Camara Salif belongs to a family of Guinean artists, and began dancing at a young age. An exhilarating dancer, Salif has performed in some of the most acclaimed Guinean ballet troupes and teaches Guinean dance to student across Europe as well as in Guinea. Established originally as a Drop in for local children run by local mothers the nursery grew from this into the setting that we have today, incorporating 3 classrooms alongside a dedicated Drop in which runs daily. The nursery is a registered charity and a not for profit organization. The nursery is run by a dedicated team of managers with Trustees and directors that are made up of parents from the nursery. This system allows all parents to get involved in the running of their child’s nursery both on the ground level and in the management side. The nursery is run by Vivien Moxam & Manisha Gorsia who have both been at the nursery well over 15 years, we are local to the Queens Park area and have worked closely with the community. Manisha Gorsia has been the manager for over 13 years and is passionate about the nursery, the children and is always looking at opportunities to build and develop the team and the practices at Hopscotch, Manisha wants all children to leave the nursery with confidence and the skills to go onto school. Manisha runs the team of 20 staff overseeing them on a daily basis with the help of her deputy and room leaders. Vivien Moxam joined the team over 15 years ago while her own children were attending the nursery & has since come on board as a Company Director. Manisha and Vivien work closely together to ensure the smooth running of Hopscotch, with Manisha being child facing & Vivien’s role is to over see the business aspect of the business.

A Level Results Day 2024 saw significant improvement with the proportion of students securing top grades (A* to B) rising by 6% to 58%. 83% of all grades were A* to C (up 8%) providing a strong foundation as students go on to higher education and the world of work. A record number of students will start degree courses at universities including UCL and Oxford. Carrie has over 30 years’ experience in education - now Director of Curriculum for the Brooke Weston Trust and a visiting fellow for Ambition Institute delivering NPQ training, Carrie was at that time the Principal of Peckover Primary School in Wisbech; a school with 54% of pupils, originating from many parts of Europe, having English as an additional language. This was a challenge that she tackled with great enthusiasm and creativity! Our first step was to re-write the curriculum completely, ensuring children were exposed to high quality texts and a wide range of vocabulary. Our classroom environments immersed children in their learning and our mantra was ‘talk, talk and more talk’. We planned structured oral opportunities into all our lessons, using the excellent ‘Tower Hamlets, ‘progression in Language structures; we had continuous provision from Nursery through to year 2 centred on language rich environments and opportunities. However, we discovered that once our pupils had acquired enough English to let them read, write and converse fluently, the progress of some began to plateau. These could be pupils who weren’t speaking their first language much at home, or reading books in it. In some cases, pupils were starting to lose their first language altogether, making it harder to build and develop their English. We sent a set of BeeLingual UK dual-language books home with every EAL child, so they could read stories in their first language and in English with their parents We used our bilingual Teaching Assistants to lead daily first language discussion groups to develop a rich and challenging vocabulary We used colourful discussion mats to pre-teach pupils in first language and English, deploying them alongside stems based on Progression in Language Structures Our pastoral team used first language emotion cards to help pupils describe and explain their feelings We introduced a ‘no hands up’ policy to promote lively class discussion We taught the whole schools songs in first languages and English Using the resources we were developing at BeeLingual UK, we introduced a whole raft of strategies to cultivate a rich vocabulary in first language and subsequently in English.

Holistically, we also support family sessions alongside the children, in parallel workshops called The Parenthood Academy: Self development for parents, as well as exploring strategies on progressive parenting for the millennials. The multi award-winning Manhood Academy for Boys was birthed by 8 men who shared a single vision. Following a trip to Gambia by 4 of the co-founders of Manhood Academy, in February 2016 a community call out brought them together in the same room, meeting at an Ethiopian restaurant in South London. At the end of the round table meeting they unanimously chose to “Be the change we wish to see in the world” by collectively establishing The Manhood Academy.Each founder previously holding a distinguished track record in youth work, from a BAFA award winning senior educator to working on the streets of London with urban youth. The Manhood Academy officially launched to the community at Park View Academy, London on October 15th, 2016.A curriculum was co-designed from the collective wealth of experience of the founders, and the nameManhood Academy, Womanhood Academy & Parenthood Academy were coined. Established under the umbrella (CIC) community interest company name: Lifehood Academy on 15 May 2017. The Manhood Academy program was implemented with the intention of exposing our young people to character building experiences, tests and master classes.All geared towards shifting young people’s paradigm, from the chronic news headlines, school disenfranchisement and stereotypes some of our young people manifest as a self-fulfilling prophecy. Being a podcast junkie myself, when I was studying for the NBCOT exam I wished there had been a podcast to help me make some progress when I was driving, at the gym, or just not feeling like banging my head against a computer screen. My goal with the podcast is to make the journey I had to take a little easier for other aspiring occupational therapists. Person I’m a huge nerd with a passion for basketball, sushi and OT. I’m always on the hunt for a good Netflix recommendations. My path to OT was a little strange. I worked in tech support during my undergrad and graduated in advertising, but not before taking the pre-reqs for OT school. I love the combination of creativity and purpose in our profession and consider myself lucky to have stumbled across it before I joined the ranks of [insert PT joke here]. Environment I was born and raised in Minnesota, lived in Japan for two years and am currently looking forward to having an actual income for Utah’s next ski season. Occupation I’m currently working at an inpatient acute rehab hospital and loving it. __________________ . __________________ That’s the gist of it. Whether you are from the public or private sector, from a charity, a museum, art gallery or heritage organisation we can offer you training, facilitation and coaching so you can… Storytelling is all about communication. It’s inbuilt, so why not learn to use it to your advantage to turn ideas into actions and outcomes? We met at university at the tail end of the last millennium, on a theatre studies BA. Josh then worked with vulnerable adults for a housing association, whilst developing his skills as a storytelling performer in museums, festivals and schools. Lily continued post graduate studies at Central School of Speech and Drama and gained an MA at Goldsmiths, while devising theatre productions as a director. Our paths crossed again on a project with young actors in Mumbai where we discovered we enjoyed working together. On our return we started to deliver open storytelling workshops as a means to develop our product and explore its uses and applications. Initially, we thought storytelling was perfect for presentation skills and museum tours. Now we also use it to investigate and build understanding with individuals and in collaborative groups as well as to grow connections, values and relationships. Ben Joiner became one of the core team in 2014. We were drawn to his in-depth knowledge and expertise in voice and body-language and his gift to comfortably take people outside their comfort zone. Over the past couple of decades, we have honed our skills and our love of training and coaching. We have stayed curious, and use that curiosity to help us adapt and evolve how we use storytelling to the benefit of contemporary working life.
