We collect waste wood from a variety of companies and businesses from firms that have pallets and wood packaging waste, local engineers, theatres, production companies through to private house renovations. We also work with large national building sites: the construction process continually generates so much waste wood, much of which is reusable so keeps our shop stock varied and sustainable. The wood is then brought back to our warehouse, processed and repurposed to sell to the public in our shop. Doing this is very labour-intensive so creates lots of jobs, training and volunteering opportunities, providing local people with new skills and confidence to find work and improve their lives. We aim to be part of the regeneration of our local area and provide a positive impact. For the last eight years we have worked closely with local authorities, the private sector and charities to support people into employment both by direct recruitment and working to upskill those wanting to progress into front line vacancies such as refuse collection, street sweeping, grounds maintenance staff, school caretakers and office cleaning. More recently we have been working across a range of sectors helping people gain employment in the hospitality sector, warehousing and production and office work. We do this in a number of ways but all of our support and the training we promote is free of charge to our customers and clients which creates a truly unique recruitment model. There is no training fee, no recruitment fee, no management fee, simply NO Fee! We want to work with organisations who wish to recruit new employees and upskill and recognise their employees and key workers through providing accredited qualifications to assist their personal development and future opportunities. To find suitable candidates, we work in local communities via a national network of organisations including Jobcentre Plus, work programmes and charities across England.

The LADS project is a long-term initiative for West Yorkshire, set up with Men and Boys at its heart with a focus on ethnic minority communities including faith communities, marginalised communities, intersectionality, socially and economically disadvantaged communities. Our focus is on Intervention and prevention. The project is a co-production and co-design model of service delivery. LADS aims to work in partnership and have a coordinated approach to service design. We will build on these partnerships and collaborate to ensure the services we provide continually meets our clients’ needs. We will develop Prevention and Intervention programs that fit with the communities we serve. We will do this by involving the community through our member’s groups alongside community cohesion work. We aim to work with and alongside mens groups and women’s groups to end VAWG and VAM&B’s, ensuring we support men from diverse Muslim communities and ethnic minority backgrounds to ensure the wider vision of ending VAM&B and VAWG is reachable.

Our time, space and resources are dedicated to supporting artistic development and community imagination, as such we are home to a thriving creative community where everyone is welcome. Our work takes place at our venue, a grade II listed textile mill in Halifax. Here you will find our art school with extensive creative production facilities and equipment, our gallery where creative practices and processes are shared and showcased as well as our artist studios, where 20 artists and creative practitioners make their work. Our work also takes place out in the community at schools and community venues, online and in peoples homes. Artworks is a community interest company so we don't work for profit. The income we generate is used to support the communities we are established to serve. Thanks to our funding partners and supporters we are able to make many of our activities free. Where we don’t receive any subsidy we make sure that access is affordable while always paying artists a fair rate.
