I was first given my grandmother's sewing machine when I was eight years old. My
mum helped me make a skirt pattern from a piece of newspaper and taught me how
to make up my skirt. I made clothes for my dolls and teddies and as I grew up,
clothes for myself and friends. I had a Saturday job in a fabric shop when I was
a teenager and would spend all my wages on fabric, throwing together outfits to
wear on Saturday night after my day at work!
