Gary was employed by Glasgow City Council as an EHO for 23 years gaining invaluable experience across a wide sector of health and safety and food safety enforcement activities which has given him a great depth of knowledge and understanding of the safety environment. During his time at GCC, Gary developed a speciality for health and safety enforcement within the Events & Entertainment Industry contributing to the UK’s guide to the Events Industry - “The Events Guide” Founding Safety First Solutions in 2004, Gary has established a wide variety of clients in the Events Industry working at festivals, stadium tours, international awards ceremonies street events and the like (see Events List here). Since that time Gary has gone on to provide health and safety services at many events all over the World including Europe, USA, Africa and the Middle East.

Over the last 10 years, the Personal Training qualification field has become very muddy; shifting from 6-week intensive courses running from 9am to 5pm courses to Groupon offers where you can qualify overnight for a few quid. The market has never been more saturated and whilst that can certainly be deemed as a negative, it has also never been easier for quality and professional PT’s to stand out. We are situated in Baillieston in the East End of Glasgow. We have a purpose built studio with sprung dance flooring, wall to wall mirrors & ballet barres. We have toilet facilities, space for parent to wait, plenty of parking and a lovely Main Street right on our door step with lots of variety to go for a shop! All our teachers are fully trained and qualified, PVG registered in order to work with children and vulnerable adults and trained in first aid for Dancers. We provide classes in all dance disiplines and also acro/gymnastics, Private lessons, fitness as well as numerous other external classes.

Thistle Aikikai is a member of the Scottish and Borders Birankai under the technical direction of T.K Chiba Shihan. The Chief Instructor, Michael Flynn Shihan began his study of Aikido in 1982 at San Diego Aikikai under the direction of Shihan TK Chiba. He was named Shihan in June of 2005 and was awarded 7th Dan by Doshu Ueshiba Moriteru on 14 January 2018 during the Kagami Baraki celebration at Hombu Dojo. He was formally awarded his Shihan Certificate in a ceremony at Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo in November 2006 by the second Doshu, Ueshiba Moriteru. He has also received Iaido Shihan title from Mitsuzuka Sensei. Since arriving in Scotland, Flynn Sensei has established the Thistle Aikikai. He serves as the Chairman and Technical Director of Scottish and Borders Birankai. Thisle Aikikai offers beginner through to advanced classes in Aikido and weapons. All are welcome. Instruction in Iaido , the art of drawing the sword and striking a killing blow, is also offered at Thistle Aikikai. In Iaido, students learn to use the sword not merely as a tool for cutting down one’s enemy, but as a method of allowing the mind and body to become more harmonious with nature. During training, students will learn the forms of the Muso Shinden Ryu Iai as developed by Nakayama Hakudo Sensei, with a goal toward synchronizing their breathing and body motions within the techniques in order to understand and practice the efficient use of the body. dams to darnley country park

Since 2004, East Renfrewshire Council and Glasgow City Council have been working together to develop and manage Dams to Darnley Country Park. The country park sits between Barrhead, Darnley and Newton Mearns, and is made up of a patchwork of woodland, grassland, open water, wetland and farmland. Throughout the year, the Dams to Darnley Countryside Ranger Service run events, health walks and volunteering activities. They also offer outdoor learning opportunities for local schools. The Barrhead dams, the country park's most striking feature, is a series of 5 interconnected reservoirs owned and managed by Scottish Water. The Brock Burn is the source for the Barrhead dams. This small, but important watercourse also provides a corridor for wildlife and has influenced the country park's historical landscape for centuries. As the Brock Burn continues its journey north beyond the Barrhead dams it becomes the focus of Dams to Darnley Local Nature Reserve. The reserve contains a mosaic of woodland, grassland and wetland habitats. The largest woodland is Waulkmill Glen, an important ancient semi-natural site. The glen is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its geology and includes the remains of a 324 million year old tropical, marine environment.
